Zariah Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 (edited) Fifteen years in this room, Safe, guarded, and my home. Away to college, I go to bloom, Freedom, growth, new places to roam. Goodbye, dear twenty-four window panes- Through which I watched the summer rains. Farewell, sticky walls of might- Where posters clung in day and night. Au revoir, comfy bed I've had since the age of two- There's no object in this room I shall miss more than you. Adios, drawers, beaureau, desk, and chair- Now I've packed all the rest, and you remain bare. Empty room filled with vent-blown air, I'll remember the many years we did share. Never shall I forget how I loved thee so dear, And when I think of home, I'll always mean here. Edited March 3, 2005 by Zariah

Sorciere Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 I love this. It's something most people wouldn't write about, more often these days poems are about love, lost love or death and I too am a culprit of these themes, but it's so refreshing to see something off the track and so clearly expressed also, a pain often felt by many more than would admit to it I'm sure.
Rhapsody Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 I found this faintly amusing, esp. the title. But on a more serious note, I agree with Sorciere that this is really original in its subject. And I understand as well. I'm going off to college after this year and am already afraid of being homesick. This poem was especially poignant to me. This line was particularly beautiful in its imagery: Goodbye, dear twenty-four window panes- Through which I watched the summer rains. I love how you gave he specific number of window panes, really brings across the intimacy.
Ayshela Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 i love this, especially as i've moved myself from the place which has been home for seven years. Fairwell, sticky walls of might- Farewell would be the correct spelling i would probably have something more constructive to say were it not a matter to tied to my own heart right now. but for what it's worth, i do truly understand what you so clearly and beautifully say here.
Parmenion Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I think your room will miss you too after this!

Vigil StarGazer Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 wait until you'll have to leave your dorm room... it's parting good memories ... all the nights of passing out after a night of partying, all the nights where you didn't sleep on that bed and instead are on the table cramming for exams... and ofcourse.. all the time sharing... your bed with other females to whom you forgot half of their names heehee
Peredhil Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Change is always stressfull, whether good change, bad change or a mixture. You can visit, but it's hard to step into your future if you insist on keeping one foot in the past. Nicely done.
