The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

Taking time to smell the roses

why bother

They are withered and dry

A penny saved and penny earned

sure

but you still only have a penny

Whistle your cares away

purse your lips

the problem's still there

Wash that man right out of your hair

look around

Dirty socks that miss the hamper every time

Smile and the world smiles with you

oh yeah

didn't you know they were laughing at you?

Look at the girl's Mother and you will know what to expect

the reflection in the mirror

is even scarier

But even having died for our pleasure

Their subtle scent when withered

Lingers for our leisure.

A copper (but mostly zinc) penny found

Reminds me of God's blessings

When found on the ground.

Problems come and fun is missed

But your pursed lips

Every day should be kissed.

Men are hampered frequently when they aim

Toilets, laundry baskets, social grace-

But y'all love some of us just the same.

And when YOU laugh I break out in smiles

Even though we be separated

By so many miles.

I look at her mother and think she's just fine

Even with all I've been through

My boys came through her line.

Huggles and ducks the swing... blows a kiss to the nose of miss grumpy

Wow, two wonderful poems!

WrenWind, I loved how you used trite old sayings in you first line, then protested it in your next. You have an acute sense of irony and your sarcasm comes across as amusing. I'm loving the structure of your poetry cuz I know that structure is often the hardest part of writing good poetry.

And Master Elrond always has something cheerful to say. :)

Delightful. I hope to see more of your work in the future.
