Peredhil Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Religion is the finger that points to the sun, or at least, where the sun once was...
Jareena Faye Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 (edited) Religion is a kind of concentration camp in which everyone strives to follow the rules and pretend to be happy, whereas faith is truly living what one believes. Edited May 17, 2003 by Jareena Faye
lumpenproletariat Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 (edited) "In some remote corner...of the universe there was one a star on which clever animals invented knowledge. It was the most arrogant and mendacious moment of 'universal history' ..." -Nietzsche Religion stems from knowledge. (of course, this is opinionated, as is everyone elses comments) Edited May 17, 2003 by James
Gwaihir Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 Religion is like politics--it takes great caution to discuss it without offending
Annael Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 "The only reason that man was created was to provide amusement for the gods." --RaeRae (that's me!) Cause you know that They're up their laughing at our stupidity
Hot Soup Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I agree with a previous poster about the importance of faith. I believe religion is man's invention to get to God. But what God wants is a relationship.
Nobody of Consequence Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 "We walk by faith, not by sight." St Augustine My own take is that knowledge is what we call the things most of us agree on
Hot Soup Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 Or in the words of the Apostle Paul the just shall live by faith.
Alaeha Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 Religion is like High School. There's a lot of crap out there, but if you look really hard, and you can put up with the people who take themselves and their opinions too seriously, you can find something worthwhile. Likewise, both should be taken with a certain amount of salt.
Peredhil Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 Peredhil looks VERY confused. Crap should be taken with salt?
Alaeha Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 Alaeha struggles to rein in a smile which threatens to run rampant, sending her into a fit of laughter. Ok... I'm fine. I was saying that Religious Doctrine and High School Education should both be taken with a bit of salt, which is to say Skepticism. I refer, of course, to the doctrine which is given, unsupported, by a fellow human. Humans are, after all, prone to making mistakes. Crap, on the other hand, should be taken with a shovel, and placed in a field some place. Or alternatively, if in the form of young children's diapers, it can be placed in a trash compactor, placed in a very strong garbage bag, and dropped on the capital of an enemy nation during times of war. Though I have suspicions that such an attack would be considered use of Biological Weaponry, and be in violation of the Geneva Convention. My apologies for the disturbance and confusion.
Rhapsody Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 I'm new to this analogies thing, so I'd appreciate someone explaining. Religion is a of blinders, not only denying the reality of the senses, but pointing one towards something which is not really there.
