The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

She fades away in light diming

My f**ked up life is so unforgiving

Why can't I keep the ones I love

Is this a sick punisment from the powers above

I see in black now unlike the light I saw

I can't hear her voice, just the ravens caw

Light is waiting some where for me

But it is somewhere that I cannot see

I've been pondering this one since it was posted...I think it's damn good. And Vlad is perfectly right, now that I think about it. It would make a good song. Can almost hear it, but not quite. :butterfly:

Vincent, you are so very right about the strongest stuff coming from depression (mostly what I was pondering). And it's definitely not the most favorable emotion.

Depression is a trully a topic, well written in poems. It seems I write a lot of depressing stuff. For me, its because I write from the heart, and well, I am just depressed a lot, trying to fix that though, but non the less, very well done Vincent.

Interesting poem. Powerful, I'll give it that. :)

Thanks for sharing, Vincent.

PS - Depression the strongest emotion? I just wanted to throw in a bit of optimism into the pot here, and I've got to say I disagree. There are MUCH stronger (and believe it or not, enveloping) emotions: Love - of life, of companion, of friends, of family, of irony, of situation, of religion, being one of the many.

I'm not saying depression isn't strong - but the first step to fighting it, is to realize that it isn't everything. Trust me. ;)

But I digress - it really was a good poem, Vincent, thanks again.

Great poem Vincent. Traditional rhyming scheme and pure and raw emotion. Thank you for sharing it.

As for depression being the stronger of all emotions..I think it really just depends on the person. For some love might be what brings out their best, in others it could be depression..or even angst or fear. Some say they do their best work when pressured while others panic and do little more than sit and babble when under pressure. Long as it drives you to live, create, and persist..then it is a healthy emotion. It's when depression gets you to the point where you no longer want to create..or even live..then there is a problem (well in my opinion).

Muses briefly

This could be a side effect of the Family feeling and support at the Pen.

When depressed, we write and share and gather the strength to face the world again.

When happy - we go out and live - and forget to write.

Just a theory.
