Okay, so recently, this band, which, in my opinion isn't any good, called Theory of a Dead Man released a chart-topping (on at least one Radio station anyway) single for seemingly (to me) no reason or inspiration other than that they came up with what seemed to them to be a very cool pun ("Home is where the hurt is"). While I don't share their opinion on the cleverness of above pun, it got me thinking: If a band can release a single and make thousands upon thousands of dollars based on one song with one pun and a whole lotta filler, why can't I post a poem (for free, unlike their song, I might add) which has no reason to exist or inspiration save for the fact I thought one pair of rhyming words were very cool to put together and a whole lotta filler. I don't like it that way either, but what can I do if I have been unable to write a non-ridiculous poem with the same two rhyming words?

So while you likely won't share my opinion on the cleverness of this rhyme, at least I'm not telling you to buy my complete-copy-of-Nickelback CD. =)

So here goes...

Vanity of Vanities, all is vanity

Said the prophet centuries ago

Maybe I just wanna be a manatee

And let all the human problems go.

Maybe I just wanna be a manatee

Not mindful of dilemmas that exist

Not concerned with things that plague humanity

Maybe ignorance is really bliss.

...What is this commotion? This insanity?

Boats are racing through the Everglades

Maybe I don't want to be a manatee

That gets mangled in the engine blades.

So, can you guess the rhyming pair I like? I'll give you a clue - it's in the last verse.

That rocks!

I love manatees. I got to swim with two over spring break last year.
