Guest Xradion Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Actually, this really reminds me of a bit of prose poetry that I wrote a while back one the archmage UBBs. My poem/prose also utilized the image of the phoenix in the destruction/rebirth of a civilization. But your poem is different. It has another quality to it. To me, your poem is just as reminiscent of the image of the Ouroborus as it is of the image of the phoenix. The Ouroborus is a serpent with its tail in its mouth, continually devouring itself and being reborn. It's a symbol expressing the unity of all things, material and spiritual, which never disappear but perpetually change form in an eternal cycle of destruction and re-creation. Of course, destruction may not even bring about change, or worse and more likely, it will bring about negative change. I think that all of these elements are demostrated quite nicely in this poem.
