Keeping myself afloat on a sea of fear

Walking along, nothing seems wrong here

I'm seemingly fine, hope keeps me sane

Then I relax my guard and fall again

Hello Despair, my eldest friend

Why have you come back again?

My brother's problems all my fault

And the worries will never halt

When there's nothing to lose and much less to gain

Should I put my neck back under the blade?

Hello Despair, my eldest friend

Why have you come back again?

My life's a nightmare without end

Every day I wake up and it starts again

More fragile than I thought, again I crack

But I just keep coming inanely back

Hello Despair, my eldest friend

Why have you come back again?

No escape in sight for one like me

'Cause the sin is much more than skin deep

Hold my hand and hold me close

But no one will do that to a ghost

Hello Despair, my eldest friend

Why have you come back again?

Take me home and tuck me in

Take knives to my tainted skin

Peel me open, watch me bleed

Pluck me like a dirty weed

Hello Despair, my eldest friend

Why have you come back again?

Nothing's left and it's quite base

Sits and slaps me in the face

Laughs at my pathetic soul

Nothing's a @#%$ bastard troll

Hello Despair, my eldest friend

Why have you come back again?

Where am I going and what do I do?

How do I listen and what about you?

The answers are evil and questions are lies

Alone and forgotten, hear my raw cries

Hello Despair, my eldest friend

Why have you come back again?

A serpent it seems, that's what I am

Crawling along, just another sham

Once bitten, but always shy of true

There's no hope for me, but maybe you

Hello Despair, my eldest friend

Why have you come back again?

I was doing fine but I'm not sure

Life disappeared into a blur

My soul's too diseased and rotten

Like a spill of ink on clean cotton

So hear the bell and back away

Despair comes ringing this dark day

Responding only to your last line:

My soul's too diseased and rotten

Like a spill on ink on clean cotton

few souls are so dark that they cannot find redemption, and I think your soul is not as dark as you make it seem.

Very well articulated poem.

Maybe for your next poem you could meditate on and explore your innate worth?
