Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 *This isn't really a poem. Rather, it's a collection of poems I wrote three years ago for a poetry exercize in a creative writing class. We were to draw random words out of a pile of words we had cut from different newspapers and use them in several "thematic" poems. I just thought I'd post these poems here. It's kind of trippy, because I hadn't written a poem for a couple years after this exercize, and now I find myself returning to many of the same themes. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these short poems.* Xradion, The Horny Druid, Scholar of the Ancient Arts, Holder of the Eye of Odin. "The only emperor is the emperor of ice-cream." -Wallace Stevens "When at home, do as the Homans do." –Xradion Edited by: Xradion at: 5/14/02 12:57:17 am
Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 As I gaze towards it, I see all that I am, all that I Will become in the future. Within myself, I will discover the world. Silence pervades my ears, as my thoughts drift to life, To the dead one who exists within the endless flow of time. As the wind drifts over my dead body, I feel no regret, knowing I will no longer have to suffer. I feel as if I were but a distant star, looking back on A life that once was. Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 The veil of fire emerged from all around me. It surrounded me, engulfing my thoughts, my being. I prayed for fog to appear, and free me from my prison. Clarity returned to my eyes, as I saw night dawning in the distance. An endless flow of water would save me from the fiery Inferno, The endless torments of life. The white music notes, childhood memories. As I listened to a soft passage of music, my sorrows would be Lifted. That winter sorrow would hold me back no longer. My departure was the beginning of newfound hope and happiness. For grief is merely a temporary obstacle on the road of life. Against the blade of perseverance, a new life would be carved.
Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 The arrival of the cold winds of winter. Hunger burns within. A cold, desolate landscape surrounding. Mystification with the endless world of ice. Laying down to make an angel in the snow. Pondering the crystallizing snowflakes in silence. A distant wonderland of fantasies. Nothing can destroy this moment. Living in paradise. Without knowing it, we drift off in the endless flow of time.
Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Fire. Rain. Voices from above. Forget the grief you once felt. In the distance, tranquillity screams. The hands of time point towards infinity. Mathematical computation. Nuclear acceleration. Endless streams of thought flowing forth. White breezes. Music notes. Violins playing. Ridiculous amounts of work. Geese. Sorrow. Laughter. This departure from reality, A welcome rest from a world governed by madness. A beginning for a new era. A strange feeling evoked. Thoughts scrubbing against an empty shell. Edited by: Xradion at: 5/12/02 7:31:52 pm
Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Where have all the years gone? A bell rings in the distance. Running across a field. Reminiscence of things once so simple. A photograph. Past things seen in new light. Open frontiers to the future. Lift your head and be proud, for a new age is about to transpire! A gentile hand upon my head. I would journey back again.
Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 A night in February. Years seem to leap by. Music is heard in the distance. A world bathed in moonlight, Like a photograph of the future. Children playing in a field. The beginning of a new month. Lift away the storms of winter! In my hands, I hold the last snowball of the past season. Spring will arrive once again.
Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Bong! Bong! Clong! A bell sounds in the distance, Telling the time of day. Its tender sound both soothing and rhythmical. Like many heavenly voices, Chiming together from above. Forget your sorrows. Regain clarity through the ringing of the bell. A veil of light forms, as the music of the bell fills the mind. Endless variations of sound. Like the wind blowing over the treetops. The drum mimics its beat. Warming up a winter day. Let it lift my sorrow! This departure into bliss. Is only the beginning of new happiness. Beside the window, I reside. Listening to the melodic chimes. This polished piece of perfect sound. Bong! Bong! Clong!
Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Times past and present. Today, tomorrow, and yesterday. All in one frame. Time-a mirror reflection of itself. The intangible factor which binds the universe. Before or after the fact. Does it really matter? Silence is heard in the distance, as a world is born. The infinite irreversible passage of events. Travel to infinite dimensions, on the winds of time. Endless it is, an yet confined nonetheless. Without knowing it, we will always be trapped by destiny.
Guest Xradion Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 *Well, there you have it! As usual, I appreciate any feedback I can get, whether it be positive or negative. You needn't respond to more than any one of these poems, if you don't feel like it (then again, no one is forcing you to respond, but I would appreciate it). Anyway, thanks a lot for taking the time to read these.* Xradion, The Horny Druid, Scholar of the Ancient Arts, Holder of the Eye of Odin. Wyvern Posted May 14, 2002 Report Posted May 14, 2002 Good stuff Xradion... I see what you mean by the themes of these poems resurfacing in your most recent works. My personal fave from this batch would have to be "Brain Storm"... I love the antithesis in the line "n the distance, tranquillity screams." My least favorite would probably be "The Mirror", simply because I've read far too many mirror poems recently! ;p All of the poems you've presented here, though, are good at the worst. The Portrait of Zool Posted May 15, 2002 Report Posted May 15, 2002 I rather liked Brain Storm as well in the way it dimensioned abstract thought (kind of twilight-zone-ish), and the hope infused in Memmories. ~Zool~ Ancient, The Pen is Mightier than the Sword. Bard of Terra, Patron Saint of Aspiring Bards. Elder than dirt, more foolish than a jester, able to trip over the smallest logic in a single step. It's... Oh, you know.
