Thanks.* A lone dove, perched peacefully Atop the twin barrels of a shotgun Long since forgotten By its original owner. But perchance some of that Insidious powder still sleeps Deep within the bowels Of the twin barrels. Perhaps those bits of hot lead, Long since gone cold, Still creep in the crevices Of that deadly artifact. And oblivious to her looming Perdition, the dove begins to Sing a dirge to her children, Fallen, in the wars of man. And the wind blows over The dry dirt where flowers Once bloomed. And the branches Of the old willow tree creak And crackle, blowing Ever closer to That loathsome trigger. reverie Posted December 27, 2004 Report Posted December 27, 2004 (edited) I know Xradion, asked that we not comment on Part I and II of his three poem cycle, but I feel all three are worthy of comment and his leaving them in three seperate threads might have led to the full effect of his cycle being neglected and under-appreciated... Anyway, I believe this short cycle is one of the more creative approaches I've seen in Banquet Room. Part II As I Walk Through the Valley Part III Metempschosis Part I: Xradion's setting strikes me as calm and quiet... then takes a morbid turn building up for the impending shot... which happening just outside the poem breaks the silence... and set up Part II Hmm, Peace destroyed by War metaphore... nicely done. rev...
