A lone dove, perched peacefully

Atop the twin barrels of a shotgun

Long since forgotten

By its original owner.

But perchance some of that

Insidious powder still sleeps

Deep within the bowels

Of the twin barrels.

Perhaps those bits of hot lead,

Long since gone cold,

Still creep in the crevices

Of that deadly artifact.

And oblivious to her looming

Perdition, the dove begins to

Sing a dirge to her children,

Fallen, in the wars of man.

And the wind blows over

The dry dirt where flowers

Once bloomed. And the branches

Of the old willow tree creak

And crackle, blowing

Ever closer to

That loathsome trigger.

Until finally,

A tug

And…

I know Xradion, asked that we not comment on Part I and II of his three poem cycle, but I feel all three are worthy of comment and his leaving them in three seperate threads might have led to the full effect of his cycle being neglected and under-appreciated...

Anyway, I believe this short cycle is one of the more creative approaches I've seen in Banquet Room.

Part II

As I Walk Through the Valley

Part III

Metempschosis

Part I: Xradion's setting strikes me as calm and quiet... then takes a morbid turn building up for the impending shot... which happening just outside the poem breaks the silence... and set up Part II

Hmm, Peace destroyed by War metaphore...

nicely done.
