Who on this earth dares

To deny that band is a sport?

I tell you for sure it is! But-

Perhaps one of a different sort.

In this sport, there are no rules.

And if you had to have one,

Just for the sake of having it-

"Don't get caught while having fun."

In this sport called band,

Duct tape is a deadly object.

You could be taped to a chair

And left in the parking lot to reflect.

In this sport called band,

Spectators are nonexistent.

Stands seem to be

Fan-club resistant.

In this sport called band,

Five a.m. is the wake up call.

Uncomfortable eighties uniforms,

Eleven p.m. is when the curtain falls.

In this sport called band,

You could get caught

In a cork-grease fight.

But it is funnily fought.

Because in this sport called band,

We aren't in it for anyone else,

For no one else can give respect.

Nope! We are in it for ourselves!

Mwahahaha! Good poem, Rashash, good poem. And YES, band IS a sport, of course. A better one than football, too.

Yay! Another band member!

"Now the halftime air was

sweet perfume

while the sargeants played

a marching tune

We all got up to dance

Oh-h but we never

got the chance

Cause the players

tried to take

the field

The marching band

refused to yield

Do you recall

what was revealed

the day

the music died"

-Don McClean, 'American Pie'

I love those lines, and that song. One of my very best friends was in band all through high school and her attitude about it was very Rasash-Geldich-meets-Don-McClean. Thanks for conjuring happy memories (even though I never got "banded" personally).

LOL, I was the inspiration for the duct-tape line...that actually happened to me! It was a sad day in my life, but somehow, Rahsash is forever escaping band wrath....::glares firmly in her direction:: I dunno, I think she's either too sweet, too dangerous, or too tall to pick on.

Great poem!!!!
