i watch the scenery roll by as we're driving

but then i awake

it was only a dream

my sheets are still frozen

and i break through the ice

to start another day kicking

myself in the face

along the wire

i'm cold but

i know that someday

and leave this wretched place

far behind

 

my eyes follow the white lines on the highway

accelerate, we're moving faster

leaving these bitter walls in the dust

you reach across the seat

and cradle both my hands

resting in my lap

your thumb brushes away the dirt

of all that i'd endured

please turn on the heater

i'm still frozen inside

 

someday, drive me far away

it feels so sweet to have your love

but i need your grace

in some other place than this

don't say a word

just open the door

take my hand and drive me

far away from this wretched place
