Don't drop your sandwich

Pulling dog hairs from your sandwich

a tough and thankless job

Would they add flavor? Oh yes

but only the kind thats good to a dog

CHEMISTRY

Chemistry, Chemistry.

What a bore!

Staying awake in class is a chore.

We do all the homework,

and still we have more.

Equation after equation,

it makes my head sore!

No matter where you go,

it's always the same.

The teacher's idea of a lab is quite lame.

No tear gas,

No corrosives,

no things that will maim.

Don't mix acids and bases.

"It's unsafe!"

(So they claim.)

Superman

(Note: this is the closest thing to a song I'll probably ever write.

If it helps, what I always hear when I think of this one is a tune not unlike "Particle Man" by They Might Be Giants)

Look up in the sky,

It's a bird, It's a plane!

No, look again-

It's Superman

Faster than a bullet,

stronger than a train,

In evil's butt he's a pain

It's Superman

Bullets bounce off his brawny chest

But still the villains do their best

No big deal to

Superman

"I've tried everything!"

Lex Luthor raves and rants

Good luck against

Superman

Yes, he's a wonderful man,

you can tell at glance

But one thing 'bout him

just gives me ants-

Why he wears his underwear

outside of his pants?

Hey, he can do what he wants

He's Superman

...followed by Something Heavy

Untitled

A little wisp of cloud

traveling, lonely through

the night

A little wisp of cloud

its brothers bathed in

moonshine bright

A little wisp of cloud

barely touched by

rays of light

A little wisp of cloud,

dissapating, its pieces

scattered to the night

UNFINISHED

As I lay here

softly bleeding

lifesblood ebbing

from my heart

I find myself awake

and dreaming

longing for the time

before we grew

apart

Shades of Gray

White is black

and day is night

right has gone and

crime is right

Eyes are blind

but heart has sight.

A new day begins,

as time ends.

Darkness is comfort,

Light, pain portends

Chaos is immutable,

Logic, always varies.

A new day begins,

the dawn is all in ruins.

What it means, mind cannot

comprehend

Questions, mouth cannot send.

O, what has happened to yesterday?

Nothing is certain.

All is shades of gray.

Perspective

I melt inside when I see a beautiful woman

I am angry when someone is callous

I cringe at work and getting up

I laugh at a really silly joke

I place too much importance on the

owning of things

I spend money like it doesn't matter

I dance in the aisles, I hide in bed

I love animals, I hurt a friend

All of these things

so easy to have

But the hardest of all

to grab onto

to use and to keep

is perspective

Heh, good for you, Andrea! Post here and you'll have poets beating a path to your door...of course, you could always say something wrong and have them simply beat your door!

Ozy - Great stuff, man! I liked the first ones, as I love humorous poetry and have almost no talent at writing it...keep it up.

Thank you both. :>) I am no poet, admittedly (so far, I have only been able to write them *only* when the mood strikes me), but as fellow authors, I'm sure you can agree that any work that you enjoy is worth it, and if your audience does too, even better!

Bah! I need to explore the Pen more! Almost missed these.

My opinion? You're a genius - but you knew that. Keep it up.

Ancient, The Pen is Mightier than the Sword.

Bard of Terra, Patron Saint of Aspiring Bards.

Elder than dirt, more foolish than a jester, able to trip over the smallest logic in a single step. It's... Oh, you know.

I think I like Shades of Grey best, though the one about dog hair is pretty funny.

The first stanza has an easy, snappy rhythm, and then as things become less clear to the writer, everything else smooths out too.

A poem well worth a reread.

(portends is a great word, not often enough used)

----------

I want to be page 93 of Pineapples, the Avian Crows-Nyyark

I like them all too, however my favorite must be Chemistry.

It sound very much like my own chemistry class. I definetly laughed at the dog hair one also though.

Thank you all. A little secret about the dog hair one-

As I sat down to transcribe the rest of the poems from paper to the boards, I was carrying dinner. I leaned a little too far forward, and splat! Voila! Instant poem.
