Guest foxglove4543 Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 *steps in very nervously, clearing throat* ... *cough**cough*... here goes... ================================ Page by page she reads them through Funny what the past can do Memories jolted from within Dwelling in them seems a sin Lingering over every word Knowing she must look absurd Eyes remain engrossed by them Hard against her heart they ram Breathing hard to ward off woe Shakes her head to fight her foe Sighing, closing eyes to rest Limits now put to the test Letters, diaries now perused Pain from scar-free wounds then oozed Reaching out to fetch the bin Careful not to make a din Scissors poised to make the cut Hearing soundless cries of "But..." Gritting teeth, she lifts a page Conscious of the sacrilege What if regret should haunt her? Wincing at the soft murmur Shreds them in a thoughtless daze No more does she at them gaze Aching hands seek brief respite Fingers now rent on with spite Burden lifts as hours pass Could she be a happier lass? Freed from death grip of the past Now it's time to steer the mast Present, future seem more gay Time to face a brand new day.
