ACT I SCENE I

(A fine day. The weather is just right, and it is time to hang out the laundry. Mistral is trying to do so, without being frazzled by Lord Hensley's incessant chatter in the background. He is clearly persistent in seeking her opinion about a certain matter.)

Lord Hensley Beshrew me, but I hath been enraptured by her. She is the most wondrous creature mine eyes hath set on. How I envy thee, for thy liberty in dealing with her.

Mistral M'lord, kindly step aside. Thou art obstructing the completion of mine tasks. (Spreads a piece of stained linen on the washing line.) However, methinks that your lordship is too infatuated with a mere maiden. Voluptuous ladies from all of Pentagor art throwing themselves at thee!

Lord Hensley Thou speakst true enough, but I wilt not be contradicted! I wouldst have her only, mine goddess in mind and body! (Utters a single sigh of desperation.) Why dost she not come forth to visit thee?

Mistral (Icily) Perhpas because this is not mine castle, m'lord. I work here.

Lord Hensley (Staring into the horizon, his face finally brightens at the sight of an approaching figure) O here she cometh! (Manages a clumsy jig of delight)

(Yes, the mysterious object of Lord Hensley's ardent desire appears. Estella, every bit the statuesque beauty, approaches them. As she winks at Lord Hensley, his spirits soar and he swoons at her feet. Mistral clears her throat, then decides to dispense with the niceties. She emits a derisive snort.)

Lord Hensley (Appalled, disgusted and totally humiliated) Forgive mine ill-mannered servant, fair Estella. How art thy sweet self?

Estella (Blushing) Fair enough, m'lord. But that I cannot say for thy... servant. (Casts a look of pure irritation at her hitherto good friend) Dost thou not have other duties, thou maid?

Mistral (Eyes flashing with ill-disguised temper) None that his lordship hath mentioned.

Estella Lord Hensley, thou lookest handsome and masculine!

(Mistral can bear it no longer and proceeds to puke all over the freshly-mowed lawn. Lord Hensley can bear it no longer, too. He sentences her to the servants' quarters for the rest of the day, to repent her heinous misdeeds.)

(Exeunt a black-faced Mistral. Lord Hensley turns to the joyful Estella.)

Lord Hensley Wouldst thou honour me by accompanying me for a walk around mine estate?

Estella Twould be a pleasure, m'lord. (Curtsies daintily.)

(Exeunt the 2 lovebirds.)

*Gyrfalcon laughs* While I don't think Shakesperian theater is that bad, it can get pretty overdone. =)

edit:

I'm forgetful at times. Excellent scene, Mistral. =)

ACT I SCENE II

(The servants' quarters. An irate Mistral paces about the room restlessly, still wearing drab clothing and more importantly, a menacing scowl. Rebecca sits on a tattered bed, watching her.)

Mistral This time, he hath gone too far! (Lips trembling, she alternates between clenching and unclenching her fists) He and that vile serpent of a friend! (In fury, she pounds her left fist on the shaky table, sending it tilting to one side as a leg cracks under the sheer force.)

Rebecca (Alarmed) Calm down, for pity's sake! Look… thou hadst sustained an injury. (Examines the wound to ensure no splinters are caught in it) His Lordship wilt certainly grow weary of the chit, and return to thy side. Tis only a matter of time.

Mistral (Eyes widening in disbelief, she throws her arms up high in the air) Calm down, didst thou sayeth? Calm down, when he sinketh so low for that… that… (Speechless from anger, she flings a rag vehemently onto the bed.)

Rebecca (Places a soothing hand on Mistral's shoulder) Forget thy sorrows, my friend. Come, sit beside me and we shalt have a good chat…

Mistral (Screaming) A plague upon them, for tormenting mine heart so! (Draws out bucketful of fresh manure from under the bed) Tis time I used mine secret weapon! Stand thee back! (As Rebecca dodges aside, she flings the contents generously all over the quarters. After which she begins trampling on it and stepping on the beds.)

Rebecca (Gasping and choking at the stench)Wherefore didst thou do that? Thou resides here, dost thou not?!

Mistral (For a moment, a look of regret flashes across her face. Then a grim smile replaces it.) Tis worth it! (Pinches her nose, and motions for Rebecca to follow her outside. Exeunt the two from the stinking quarters.)

(Cut to the garden scene, just outside the quarters. Lord Hensley and Estella appear unharmed by the curse uttered within the quarters, neither do they seem to have heard it. As Lord Hensley watches Estella bend to smell a beauteous rose, he smiles indulgently and walks up to her.)

Lord Hensley Tis common knowledge, but I must tell thee that thou art indeed the fairest of all maidens in Pentagor.

Estella (Smiling shyly, she lifts her left hand tantalisingly) Dost thou really meaneth that?

Lord Hensley (Eagerly grasping her hand) I speakst nothing but the truth! Thy beauty, thy fragrance…(Here, he raises her hand to take a sniff at them. Then chokes at the sudden explosion of stench that seems to bombard his nostrils) Eh…cough… cough… what an original perfume!

Estella (Retching at the pungence and not paying particular attention to his words) I… I thank thee for thy compliment, m'lord… (Staggers away hurriedly, eyes tearing from the ordeal) I beg thy indulgence for my early departure…. (Covers her mouth hastily, and makes a dash for fresh air.)

(Exeunt Estella, leaving a puzzled Lord Hensley scratching his head.)

Lord Hensley Were mine words not complimentary enough? (Takes another sniff.) Tis a wondrous fragrance she wears. Long-lasting and unique… Mistral wouldst know about this...

(Exeunt Lord Hensley, in search for his servant.)
