Raw fragments written down before I lose them again.

Tzimfemme pointed forward and upwards, where ruins of an old staircase spiraled into the sky. Flakes of the original wall clung to it, bits of meat on the dry bone. They loaded fallen bits of wall onto their backs, except for Minta, who raised some of the dead workers strewn about and harnessed them. Backs bent with the weight of the loads, they stepped onto the first stair, repaired the second with bits that had fallen from the third, stepped up, and continued to climb. . . .

. . . .Halfway up the staircase, Rydia glanced away from her work, and grew pale with fright, and wailed, "I'll die if I climb any more!" She clung to the unfinished edge, strong with terror, and the other three could not pry her free. "Yes, you will die," agreed Tzimfemme, tugging hard, "but it will be worthwhile." . . .After awhile, Rosemary picked up another brick and began to build again. Tzimfemme followed suit, and Minta set her undead slaves to work. They left Rydia behind, staring out in horror, cemented into the wall. . . .

. . . .They reached the end of the old staircase. There were no more bricks lying around to use. The last worker's body had been drained by the thin air. Minta reanimated him with the last of her magic, but he lacked the strength to rise, and tumbled down the staircase with his brethren. She sat in his dust and pouted. "Cannot you build yourself?" inquired Rosemary, unloading a brick from her back and repairing the next step. Minta did not move, even when the other two continued upwards. She sat and pouted and rotted. . . .

. . . .Tzimfemme set the last of her carried bricks into place and straightened her back. "I cannot create any more," said Rosemary, "yet I am satisfied." She looked down upon the world below, and went mad with the vision, and started running down the steps, shrieking her revelations aloud. . .Tzimfemme looked up at the stars. "I'm not there yet!" she cried, and ripped out the bricks from the step below hers, and built a new one just above where she stood! . . .

Look up at the nighttime sky. Do you see the zigzag of five stars? That is the staircase that Tzimfemme now stands upon, and forever destroys the lower step to build a new upper step, and rises, rises, rises.
