Two Rules [A fragment]

“What are the Two Rules?”

 

“Kill your man quick, and never touch a fire-arm”

 

“And why?”

 

“We kill our opponents quickly, because we want the same done to us. We don’t use firearms because the penalty is death.”

 

“Insufficient answer, why must fire-arms, the ultimate quick death, be eschewed?”

 

“We say it’s because they’re liable to magic, but more because there’s no art in killing that way.”

 

“Ok, and why does this rule stand”?

 

“Those who don’t wish to know our trade support the rule, because they feel it lessens the blood. Those who know it well would not wish to use guns, they remove their advantage. Those who know our trade slightly avoid them only because of the penalty.”

 

“And, lastly, what is the penalty for breaking either of the Two Rules?”

 

“A quick death-on-sight from any and every member.”

With all the trouble I have had concentrating on any writing projects, I have decided to try to recycle some of my older projects, filling them out into real stories.
