Appy Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 What's a mob? (Yes, I'm annoying today, but I would like to know...)
Valdar and Astralis Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 (edited) duh me mob-- monster, or NPC that has to be killed. Oh yes Verant/VI-- ex devil SOE-- The devil Edited October 2, 2003 by Valdar and Astralis
Ayshela Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 most common spell requests/references in EQ: SoW: aka Speed, Spirit of Wolf, a Shaman/Druid/Ranger spell which increases your run speed Clarity: aka Crack, Enchanter spell which speeds up mana regeneration KEI: high level enchanter spell which is a faster/longer lasting version of Clarity AND +25 to intelligence and wisdom, very valuable to casters. Rez: Resurrection, moves you back to the location of your corpse AND regains some of your lost experience at the cost of time spent recovering from "rez effects" - you are resurrected with no mana or physical strength Aego: Aegolism, high level cleric spell which increases Hit Points (HP) by 1100 and Armour Class (AC) by 54 Haste: Any one of a whole line of Enchanter/Shaman spells which increase a players attack speed Levi: Levitate, or at higher levels Levitation - pretty self explanatory, vital when running through "zones", or play areas, which have cliffs or steep banks, or in dungeons with false floors ~~~ Common terms: Zone - three usages 1. reference to a specific play area 2. the access point to the adjacent zone, or play area 3. to escape through that access point, usually from a "train" or "add" you can't handle KS - Kill Steal, attacking someone else's mob, or NPC, and doing more than half damage so that despite their efforts, you get the experience for the kill Camp - staying at a specific location hunting the same creatures for an extended period of time, OR hunting for a specific mob which is not commonly available (a "rare spawn") Buffs - Beneficial spells, usually augmenting HP, AC, mana regen, or speed PL - Power Level, to have buffs cast and/or be watched over by a higher level player which allows you to advance through the levels at a much faster rate than normal Babysitting - to watch over a lower level player, usually in conjunction with PL'ing them Twink - to give high level equipment to a low level character, or one who does so. Originally a highly derogatory term, less so now as servers have aged Bind point - the location you return to when you die, hopefully not too far away from where your corpse is Corpse Run - returning from your bind point to your corpse Looting - either taking money and items from the mob you killed, or regaining your money and gear from your corpse after you've made your corpse run Ninja Looting - looting corpses as soon as they've dropped without giving anyone else in the party a chance to do so Dot - two uses 1. Damage over Time, a spell which does significant damage spread over a period of time 2. short for Peridot, a gem which is a spell component for higher level cleric and enchanter spells Nuke, or DD - Direct Damage spell, all its damage done at once AoE - Area of Effect - some spells are able to hit more than one mob as long as they're within the spell range, or area. PBAoE - Point Blank Area of Effect - the range of the spell is outwardly centered from the caster mmm there's probably a bunch more, but that will do to go on for now.
Zadown Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 DPS = damage per second, a value which tells how much killing power ye have toon = character main = the character somebody plays the most, or somebody's only character alt = somebody's (usually lower level) character they don't play as much as they do their main ebay = the ultimate EQ insult, calling somebody ebay roughly means implicating they've bought their character and have no skill whatsoever with it CR = corpse run/retrieval disc = discipline, a melee ability to do something extraordinary for a short period of time before having to wait a long time to be able to reuse it WS = weaponshield, ranger ability to avoid all frontal melee damage AA = alternative advancement points; you get them with xp an ye can buy new abilities with them but only if yer 51+ level ML = main looter, a person who loots all the mobs and then redistributes the loot as per group's loot rules MT/MA = main tank/main assist, the person the mobs are supposed to be attacking while the rest of the group or raid stab em in the back ST = secondary tank, the person who waits MT to die to get his 9.5 seconds of glory before he dies 0.5 sec before the first complete heal would've hit Then there's endless list of AA skill and spell and zone name abbrevations, but even veteran EQ players don't know 'em all so listing them here is useless. AHG3 might say something to a cleric but most warriors respond to it with a "Huh?" (it's Advanced Healing Gift 3 in case somebody was wondering).
Tamaranis Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 That train rating guide is awesome, and I've never even played everquest. It makes me want to buy the game just so I can play an applicable class and be a jerk.
Rune Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Mines not as cool but I gotta contribute. cheal = Complete Heal. A spell that takes 10 seconds to cast but restores a ton of hit points, like 5k or something. uber = The most abused word in everquest. Usually refers to someone who has better equipment than yourself or is part of a guild that raids the elemental planes. Also can be used sarcastically. Uber and noob ironically both hold about the same level of disgust by alot of players. PoT = Plane of Tranquility. The plane that you streak across nekkid in order to get to the other planes in everquest. Also fun to say. "Meet you in pot!" "Im in pot!" "lets meet in pot!" PoK = Plane of Knowledge. Giant meeting place in EQ where theres too many people asking for too many buffs. Also a place for crackheads (see below) to hang out. Crack / Crackheads - KEI / People who need KEI (KEI per Ayshela: high level enchanter spell which is a faster/longer lasting version of Clarity AND +25 to intelligence and wisdom, very valuable to casters.) KEI makes your mana refill faster so once you get it the first time you always want it. Its earned the nickname crack as a result. Enchanters are often called dealers. WTF OMG LOL xD = People on solusek ro. (dont ask) MGB = Mass group buff, an ability to cast a group spell that hits everyone in a surrounding radius. Kitty-Crack = A mana regen spell that is castable by beastlords. Since most beastlords are Vah Shir, a cat race, its earned the title kitty-crack. neato gnomie necro = Minta SoE = Also stands for spirit of eagle. Similiar to spirit of wolf but with a levitate component. Inny = Innoruuk, The god of hate. Its it cute how the god of hate has such a cute nickname. Ok everyone else got the good ones. heh.
Valdar and Astralis Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 I actually tried to start people calling Tunare 'Tuni' but it never caught on :/ Couple more. . . CC-- camp check (also Crowd Control) Tag-- guild affiliation pop-- mob spawn TAG!!!-- See neato necro gnomie huhu(huhuhu. . .)-- see (approximate 'hi') jejeje(jeje. . .)-- see (approximate 'haha') Ninja-- the act of looting a corpse that was not rightfully yours (eg: walking up to a dragon raid and looting the corpse while the people who killed it try to figure out who gets what). Usually leads to: Petition-- calling for a GM phat lewts-- good loot Oh, and of course Burned woods-- where all the phat lewts is
