The Portrait of Zool Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 In the interest of perfecting our craft (Oh who am I kidding, I hope this will be fun!), I am starting a thread of 'Transitional Vignettes'. Posting is simple. This is played just like word association, but one level up. The object is to read the last post, and then write down whatever image comes to mind. When writing the new post, make the scene as brief but as detailed as possible. In this exercise, brevity is beautiful, but the more punch you can put in a scene the better. I'll start off so you get the idea. ~Zool~ Ancient, The Pen is Mightier than the Sword. Bard of Terra, Patron Saint of Aspiring Bards. Elder than dirt, more foolish than a jester, able to trip over the smallest logic in a single step. It's... Oh, you know.
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 24, 2002 Author Report Posted April 24, 2002 Galaxies coalescing from primordial fire.
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 24, 2002 Author Report Posted April 24, 2002 A keening cloud flecked wind whipps the talonous rocky mountains that jutt from the condensing oceans as a glutinous green muck clings to the sand of a lagoon's back water.
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 24, 2002 Author Report Posted April 24, 2002 The green ball floated through the void, it's surface formed with textured chia grace, trimmed to a perfect sphere by a the busy hand wielding flashing cosmic shears. Edited by: Zool47 at: 4/24/02 1:36:47 pm
Peredhil Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Billy Shears danced the wild Fandango with the Walrus. They discussed the cosmic significance of Transcendental Zen as a way of life.
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 24, 2002 Author Report Posted April 24, 2002 Suddenly finding enlightenment, beer shot out of the nose of Billy Shears onto the Walrus, sereiously cracking up the Eggman.
Gwaihir Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Suddenly into the quiet night, something shatters, first an egg breaks, than a child sobs loudly. There is no respite, no chance of hope. ---------- I want to be page 93 of Pineapples, the Avian Crows-Nyyark
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 24, 2002 Author Report Posted April 24, 2002 Darkness consumes the spirit. A brilliant jewel shines relentlessly into a sucking void... ~Zool~
Guest Zephryin Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 A void consumes a solar system, disintegrating the planets and sucking the sun into it's nothingness, dissolving the very fabric of space.
Gwaihir Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 The void bubbles......... buckles........Bursting out, ......somehting is coming out..... the void stretches trying to keep it in.. But it pops..........
Canid Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 A pink baloon explodes in the style of bubble gum, splattering the face of a baby. *~~~~~~~~*
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 24, 2002 Author Report Posted April 24, 2002 Loud slurping chewing noises overtake infinity. Huge bumbling baby hands are busy unwrapping astral bubble gum wrappers and stuffing gum into the attached infant cheeks. The primordial wad grows bigger and bigger, getting more and more difficult to chew. At the point that the lips can no long hold the spittle from the edge of the chin, the tiny tongue and jaws begin working furiously, reshaping the gooey pink stuff into the proper shape. Let there be bubble...
Canid Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 A teenager with heavy make-up struts down the street chewing on bubble gum. She stops shocked as arms, legs and two eyes peer down in gigantic proportions floating eerily isolated in the starry night sky.
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 24, 2002 Author Report Posted April 24, 2002 She looks into the sky, and it peers down into her. They fall into each other and come out the other side as the other, their roles switched. A teenager with heavy make-up walks slowly down the street, gazing in wonder at a sky staring down at her in fright. ~Zool~
Peredhil Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 The icorous gelid green legumes threw fine hairs into the black turgid brown waters. A fine algae formed a scummed cap on the living liquid.
Peredhil Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 The teenager hiding behind her layers of make-up, made-up, stake-out, wondering where the slavering jaws wait, shivering, hoping that the police wait, with silvered bullets, in allies, and not the thirsting beasts of night, under stars hidden behind garish nightlights, distant; The Moon shines through the city's veils of light.
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 25, 2002 Author Report Posted April 25, 2002 A gorilla with a tall pompadore bashes at a typewriter randomly in his cage at the zoo. Even when the typewriter turns upside down, he just smashes the bottom with his fist. Occasionally he gazes in uncomprehending awe at the the beutiful scenes and people that move just beyond the bars of his cage, and then stroll on. With a grunt he turns back to smacking his typewriter.
Gwaihir Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Seen through diamond shaped holes in the metal bars, the trees shifted and swayed, happy green jungle-gyms. Out of reach. Something ate tasty-looking, juicy fruit. Out of reach. He dragged himself away and went back to his work *pound* *pound* ---------- I want to be page 93 of Pineapples, the Avian Crows-Nyyark
Yui-chan Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Pound. Pound. Let me out! Pound. Please! Let me out of here! Pound. There's so much I would do! So much I want to do! Pound. Pound. On the far side of his eyes, the boy bashes will against frailty in lifelong frustration. On this side, his slack face and misshapen body are deathly still, eternally peaceful. The caretaker wipes the drool from the corner of his mouth before turning the wheelchair away from the cage and moving on towards the elephants.
Lady Celes Crusader Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 As the wheelchair passes near the elephants, a fat lady, dressed up in a red dress with white dots, with equally white hat, sunglasses, gloves, and shoes throws peanuts to the hungry elephants. One peanut is eaten by one huge beast.
Guest Belizean1 Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 The peanut shivers as it travels down the long asophogus of the elephant. Slowly it calms itself and closing its miniscule eyes it whispers "There is no place like home, no place like home".
Canid Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Happy peanuts dancing around on the bottom surface of a huge glass jar singing merry peanut songs. suddenly from the sky (the open end of the jar) a huge dark metal object falls in slow motion. The peanuts begin to scream but their fate has already been sealed. 2 months later an elderly woman reaches up and pulls a jar of peanut butter from the shelf of the supermarket.
The Portrait of Zool Posted April 26, 2002 Author Report Posted April 26, 2002 A women opens a jar of peanuts, and is immediately arrested for conspiring to consume a superior race. Peanuts swarm from the Jar and grab her by the wrists, ankles and hair, as another peanut removes her rights. The women detachedly wonders what her husbamd would have to say about it as she lay with her cheek pressed to the gritty film on the cool linoleum flooring. He never did like peanuts, you see.
