Peredhil Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 http://www.sfwa.org/2005/01/writerisms-and-other-sins-a-writers-shortcut-to-stronger-writing/ Good advice from a published writer. Cherryh has written the Faded Sun science fiction series, among others.
DStubbs Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) After reading through it, I came to the conclusion that this man does not like words, and has spent his life in bitterness that he has had to use them to make a living. Seriously; some of that advice is utterly sound, but the whole article reads like a lament of the English language and the mental (and wonderful) words it holds. Eh. In fairness, I am a repeat offender of a number of things that he's touched on the article. Maybe it's just picked my pride Edited September 9, 2010 by Corwin
Peredhil Posted September 10, 2010 Author Report Posted September 10, 2010 Heh. C.J. is a woman... And a dazzlingly intelligent one too. Prolly part of her issues. Extremely high intelligence isn't a genetic (testicular level thinking) attraction in a woman. It tends to come through in her writings - the problems of intelligence. I recommend reading Cyteen for anyone who's ever been burdened with the label of "genius".
