The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

I just read this in a Dutch gaming magazine and felt it would be something nice to share with all of you. Keep in mind that it's been translated into Dutch first, and then translated back into English, so it's probably not a verbatim quote :P

Attributed to Tim Schafer (of Grim Fandango and Psychonauts fame), who talked about writer's block, scrapping ideas that end up not working, dealing with criticism, and originality on the Games Convention Developers Conference in Leipzig last August. I left out a few bits that are not relevant to writing, but made sure to keep the meaning intact :)

"Inspiration is is like a chicken that lays golden eggs, and the only thing you can do is follow it, feed it and hope that it breeds ideas. You can't force it in a certain direction [...]. I think that if your brain tells you you need a new idea, you need to listen to it [...]. It's a war, and the enemies are ... [...] mediocrity, laziness and fear, and those can be found inside us all."
