Guest Morbid Angel Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 What’s in a name, Is it how we play the game? Or whether we succeed in life, Or if we carve ourselves with a knife? Is it life long luck, Or making a living by driving a truck? Is it born to wealth, Or into poor health? Do we remember our family, Or change it to escape from reality? Do we make our own destiny, Or do we just rely on what’s given to us in a key? If we change our name does it make us better person, Or are we the same daughter or son? Can we really escape our past, By changing the name that comes last? I don’t think you can, But many others believe you can become a better man. We should stay true to who we are, And should never stray far. Morbid Angel
Ayshela Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Many questions, indeed. I wonder how many of us ever feel we and our names truly fit together? I wonder sometimes how much life would be changed if one went through it with a different name. I like the last two lines of the next to last verse, especially. I probably took it somewhere other than you intended, but i've known far too many girls who married young to escape - home, their life, all that went with the name that they had. It doesn't work, as you've suggested, though many keep trying. Thought provoking, as usual. I'm a bit lost in the content, so have nothing for you in the technique this time, though. :-S
Parmenion Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Very thought provoking poem asking some very important questions. The kind of poem that would inspire a debate. I completely agree with your conclusions.
