The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

Very few people in real life know that I write (just a few close friends and family), so I got to wondering: how open are you about your writing to people you know in real life?

It's no secret that I write, though I usually am a bit reluctant to actually show what I've been writing. Mmm, my relatives bug me about when is my book going to be out... -_-

Totally open. I try to push anyone who enquires toward the Pen... but I don't think very many of them have checked it out.

Which reminds me, my grandma wanted me to e-mail her everything I have of Spik so far...

I don't hide it, though few of my friends have actually read any of my work. That's mainly because those that have read it keep hasselling me to finish one of the books that I've started! Don't know how much longer I can hold them off....lol :D

Well my family knows I like to write, kinda... but I don't think I've ever shown them my work. Some of my friends have seen some of my work, but I don't show it to them on a regular basis or anything. Right now it seems like a 'don't ask, don't tell' kinda thing.

Oh well.

People know, but I really don't share much of my work. I have to push myself very hard to finish anything, so there aren't many finished products for them to look over yet. *sigh* Maybe some day.

I haven't gone out of my way to tell anyone, but I haven't been hiding what I have written. It is an interesting question. I have been unusually quiet about my writing up until recently. The one or two pieces I have shared with others have been exceptions and definately not the rule.

I don't exactly announce 'I'm a writer' when I meet people, but usually if they share a like mind on something I say "Oh go to the Pen, it's this website where I write..."etc.

More than anything I don't announce that I write because my first attempts were bad and made me nervous to share...

hmm. my birth family - very little, only my little brother knows that i write and he hasn't seen much of it at all. my kids all know that i write - Alaeha pulled me in here and the girls have followed me in their semi-active fashion. my friends - they all know, and a very few do draft-edits for me now and then. the one who's known me most of my life even nags me now and then to get back to writing, because he knows i'm much happier and better able to manage the stress load when i AM writing - ironically that's when it's hardest.

So, really, i guess it depends on how well the people i know IRL know *me*. If they know *me* then they know that's an important part of my life. If they don't - then they don't.

If that makes sense. ;)

I don't share with people in real life often, partly because I have yet to master my chronic writer's block (I come to a grinding halt on work, ideas, etc. on an estimated 9 out of every 10 projects) and largely because I know very few people in my non-net life who are at all interested in wiriting and/or my own.

So, thank you all - for *being* interested. You keep me going. :>)
