your eyes focus, shift, and focus

and the whisper-click of the lens

caresses my ears

 

i am naked before you

in the only ways that matter

your eyes follow the lines

and curves

i make in the light that surrounds me

 

where did you find this light in my soul?

my eyes gleam in the pictures you take

with a ferocity i have not seen there

for many a year

 

a reflection of me adorns a page

frozen in a moment of memory

my awareness of my flaws falls away

as i study the light and shade that flows

in angles across my face

 

and

for a moment

i see me

with an outsider's eye

 

i have seen this manifest in others

as you coax them to open their souls to you

and as mine breaks free with the click of your shutter

i will never forget this gift came from you
