Tanuchan Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 This poem was written some days ago, for a challenge in another board. I'm not sure if it belongs here or in the library... Feel free to move it, if needed. ~~~~~~~~~~ WHAT IS TO COME I. What is Silent, dark, night comes Muting sounds, stilling passions, Drowning war, cries - death. Sleepless she lies there straining to hear his breathing, Fighter coming home. Dreams hold restless mind, dark ghosts fleshed by prophecy, shadows haunting me. II. What was A. Fate Spring. Flowers spread around, covering the dark mound, colored, happy ring. But a wind came bringing a voice, leaving no choice, calling a name... Chosen. Lady of Stars, can't you see? Pity this girl who might just be... Frozen. B. Fading Autumn. Girl who might've been, bound by her word isn't anymore. The flowers are gone, baring the shadow mound... the wind blowing fallen petals away. Solemn. So are the days under that light that fades away. III. What might be Dawn. The breeze from the sea, the color from the trees, the sound from the fields... Cold. Gray. Land shrouded by mist and silence, waiting in shadows, still. Sharp. Branches that point to ways that are gone, memories of life, deeds... death. Light... salt from the sea, green from the leaves, cries from the birds. Life? Atop the shadow mound my spirit waits, shadows leaving to reveal what comes. The end of the dream. The end of the nightmare. The end... Or the beginning. ~~~~~~~~~ The challenge was in three parts; the first one asked for three haikus. Part two should have two short poems, one of them being rhymed. Last was a long poem in free form. I fused all three parts in a final, long poem.
