The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

funny how life collapses

it almost traps us inside of who we are

or who we pretend to be,

and the shadow that it casts

is massive

darkening all that surrounds us

including the path we walked to get to where we are,

and every candle in front of you

seems brighter than the next

and you don't care where they lead

as long as there's light where you believe you need to get,

but they too will fade out,

even the sun will become a black hole standing behind you

and once you realize that you've created a sequence of nowhere, no one, and nothing

you'll retrace your mistakes and chase them back to your shadow,

and fade out too.

Your shadow will live as your replacement

with your name and your faces,

and not even you will be able to tell the difference,

because you too, were just an imitation.

Nicely done.

Odd resonance, there were times in my life where I felt like I was going through the motions of being me, an imitation of myself.

So basically your saying, that when all of life's facades collaspe, then the shell that you wear is the shell that you will become... or something like that?

i like this.

I like this poem, word eyes. I find the uses of shadow imagery very evocative and original, and particularly like the notion of the shadow replacing the actual person. I also think that the ending of the poem is very effective in driving across the poems motifs, and I like how the poem naturally shifts into a second person perspective.

On a minor side note, in case nobody has mentioned this over PM: please be sure to refer to the "One Thread a Day" Banquet Hall rule the next time you choose to post a large series of poems.

Well done, once again.
