Mynx Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 (edited) Befriend a fallen angel. Lose your daughter. Then seek comfort in the angel's bed. Fall in love. Force him to give up his wings. Then die and leave him behind forever. Or read the book. OK, I saw this on a poster in town today advertising a book (I forget the title now) but it gave me an idea for a little game to play here. The idea is that you take a film or book that you really enjoy (or hate, it doesn't matter, you just have to know the story) and create a description for it in the same manner as above. The last line has to be either 'Or read the book.' or 'Or see the film.' It is then up to one of you to guess what book or film it is and post your own one. If you wish to leave clues, such as the author/director, genre or year, you are welcome to. Just don't make the topics tooooo obscure. To start off, here is my first attempt. Stop taking your drugs. Cheat death thanks to a rabbit. Uncover a kiddy porn ring. Figure out time travel. Decide to go back in time and die anyway. Or see the film. *grins* Go nuts... Edited February 14, 2005 by Mynx
Mira Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 (edited) Donnie Darko? For my riddle of sorts I have created this. Be a sheephearder, to stand against the Shadow. Feel the Power, and bend the threads. Bring salvation in destruction. And let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time. Or read the book Edited February 14, 2005 by Mira
Mynx Posted February 14, 2005 Author Report Posted February 14, 2005 OK...damn... Yeah it was Donnie but I'll be damned if I know yours... Clue? Any more contestants?
Zadown Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Mira's riddle reminds me of Wheel of Time, but it has been so long since I last read it I can't be sure - besides themes like that are quite common in fantasy. This might be too easy, but... Etch your memories into you. Live in the now. Cheat yourself and succeed. Continue your pointless hunt. And kill your only partner. Or see the movie.
Sweetcherrie Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Maybe we should PM answers so that people don't see the answers here in the thread? Anyways my own contribution: Go drown yourself in a bubble Die twice or more Create your own body Discover the desert Create a world outside the domes Or read the book.
Gwaihir Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Break out, O Endless Retrieve your own. Send out the dreams. Make the nightmares. Help a willing man die and the follow yourself Or read the series. Sweetcherrie, I know exactly which one yours is, but I Can not think of the title, gaaah
Sweetcherrie Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 want hints? I am having more problems with the one from Mira...thinking of Ann McCaffrey, series of Pern, but I don't remember a sheephearder in there - Sweetcherrie
Gwaihir Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Hasn't Mira's already been answered? If I know yours, Sweetcherrie, it's part of a trilogy.
Katzaniel Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Mira's is undoubtably Wheel of Time. Or, if it is not, a ripoff of it! Mynx's was one of those "Gee whiz, why didn't I get that?" I knew the movie, but did not recognize the signs! The rest have me baffled. As for PMing answers, probably people can just decide not to scroll down until they've figured one out or given up. Mine: Be captured by pirates. Fight a giant, a master swordsman, and an evil genius. Die and be brought back. Bluff your way to victory. Or watch the film. These are harder than they look. I may write another later.
Mira Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Yes Katzaniel, both you and Zadown were absolutely correct, it was The Wheel of Time. And I know yours, but I'll PM you my guess so I don't spoil it for others
Gwaihir Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 So I shouldn't guess Katzaniel's? Below Princess Bride
Sweetcherrie Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 (edited) Nope it's a single book, no series. - Sweetcherrie Edit: there is a book that incorporates this story, and has the same basis, but it's not part of a series (looked it up because you got me doubting ) Edited February 14, 2005 by Sweetcherrie
Gryphon Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 wails! I cant get any of them! Not even the ones I know (when the answers are posted) like Princess Bride. Gryphon goes to hide in shame
Akallabeth Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Watch the Assistant Pig Keeper grow to be King See the bauble lit, then extinguished forever Travel from the Hall of Bards to Annuvin Slay the lord of evil See a lesser evil die by his lord's iron crown Bid the Sons farewell as they sail across the sea Or read this last book of a series.
Gryphon Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Gryphon comes creeping back out of indecent obscurity... Hey... I know that one! Yay, suddenly I feel much better. Gryphon rushes off to PM the answer to Akallabeth so as not to spoil it for anyone else (I'd post it here but I don't have a new description to replace it with.)
Peredhil Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Taught by the Silent One, Opened Death's door for pride and found a Shadow, Lured to a northern court, lost his otak. Sailed until salt-sea became sand Named the Shadow and found himself scarred but whole. Or read the book. (Akallabeth: The High King by Lloyd Alexander)
Zadown Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 I know Peredhil's! Some spoiler space for those who still are pondering... A Wizard of Earthsea.
Venefyxatu Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 The only one I knew was Mira's - the Wheel of Time Methinks I need to read more, see more movies and play fewer games Receive a gift, And go to Hell Destroy it there, And come back again. When asked, say that you "lost it". Or see the movie.
Gryphon Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Become a famous lawyer. Move to the city. Watch your life go to Hell. Change your path at the start. Risk a repeat. Or watch the movie.
Sweetcherrie Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 yeah, I think I know that last one Devil's advocate?
Sweetcherrie Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 (edited) I have another one, Desire to be your sister Desire your sister Write it down Get a mysterious illness and die. Or read the book and see the film Probably a bit easier (this is a pretty good game ) - Sweetcherrie Edited February 15, 2005 by Sweetcherrie
Mynx Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 (edited) *sigh* Everyone guesses the ones I know and leaves the ones I don't Oh well... Here's an easy one for anyone that knows me well... Kill your sister when you're 6. Go to a mental facility and decide not to talk. Escape 15 years later. Kill stupid babysitters who like taking their clothes off. Get shot multiple times and walk away. Or see the film. *waits for a reply in 3...2...1...* Edit: (BTW - Sweetcherrie, was it Caligula?) Edited February 15, 2005 by Mynx
Gryphon Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Mynx's one Has to be... Halloween. Live to the rhythm. Be king of the world. Be plotted against. Find help in the most unlikely place. Turn out better for it. Or watch the movie.
Vigil StarGazer Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 At first i was gonna Pm answears to the authors.. but then Nooo.. everyone wanna spoil it for everyone else.. so here we go, I might as well join in: Etch your memories into you. Live in the now. Cheat yourself and succeed. Continue your pointless hunt. And kill your only partner. Or see the movie. Answear: Momentos Watch the Assistant Pig Keeper grow to be King See the bauble lit, then extinguished forever Travel from the Hall of Bards to Annuvin Slay the lord of evil See a lesser evil die by his lord's iron crown Bid the Sons farewell as they sail across the sea Answear: "The Return of the King" From the Lord of the Rings series
Mynx Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 *grins* Don't worry Vigil, I don't think anyone minds that the answers are being posted here. Momentos? I thought it was Memento...but then again for all I know it has a different title where you are. Aaaaanyway. Gryphon's has to be the Emperor's New Groove *grin grows wider* Here's my new one... Be born and raised as heir to the throne. Be blamed for your father's murder. Run away and befriend outcasts. Get some sense literally knocked into you. Return to complete the circle. Break out randomly into song throughout all of this. Or see the film.
