Some friends and I are planning a scavenger hunt. Does anyone have any ideas for wacking things we can look for? We're also going to take digital cameras, and you get points for taking photos of certain things. For example, a team member dressed as a pirate at the wharf. Any ideas?

And on that topic, does anyone have any good scavenger hunt stories?

Hmm, I have worked as en entertainer on campsites and I should say that it depends a bit on with who you are doing a scavengerhunt (men/women, what age?) and if you do this at night or by day.

But one of my favourite items to go and find on the nightly spooky ones (with adults of course) was a chainsaw.

Once we had a volunteer with a chainsaw (without the chain) in the middle of a forest. he scared the living day out of people by showing up with a white mask on his face and starting the chainsaw and holding it between their legs.

But you have to be carefull with for example umbrella's if you want to do that sort of stuff, because scared people do silly things and might go poking people's eyes out.

The other thing me and my collegues always tried to imply is tasks, as in doing things other than finding stuff. For example, getting other (random people on the streets) to do things like stand on their hands.

Don't know if that is of any help but I wish you good luck with organizing your hunt!

*hugs*

PS I have a folder somewhere with all the activities we organised and if you get stuck let me know and I will look it up :)

well, what's your setting for this? the things you might go looking for depend greatly on whether you're talking about a mid-forest hunt while camping, a small town, a large city, a mall, a convention, a county fair.. you get the idea.

* If you have something that there's a lot of around your city, like statues of historical figures or water fountains or a certain kind of lamppost, maybe say "5 pictures of different statues", etc.

* Pic of "Help Wanted" sign

* One of those Burger King hats

* Certain colour or flavour condom (adults of course)

* You could do some things that require resourcefulness as well as creativity... Gordon Korman's book "I Want to Go Home" has some great ideas like Brontosaurus Rib, Eucalyptus Bark, Moon Rock, Pure Mineral Water, Nuclear Waste,Trilobite Fossil, Pterodactyl Nest, Man-Eating Plant, Iceberg, a Genuine Neanderthal Man and a Stalactite.

* Restaurant mints

* Pic of a school jungle gym

Of course like the others said it will depend on location and who's involved, but maybe this will get you thinking along the right lines.

I've been on a few scavenger hunts in my day...

One time, in high school, a few of us were hanging out at one of my friends' house and (having nothing better to do at the time) had a scavenger hunt around her subdivision. Basically, it involved going up to people's houses and asking them for various items. The only item I really remember was '3 grapes' because the way my team solved that was by getting a can of fruit cocktail from one house. We figured there had to be at least three grapes in there. We wound up losing by one item, but I still think our grape solution meritted bonus points.

Another time, a little over a year ago, my dorm was having a photo scavenger hunt with the purpose of familiarizing the freshmen of the dorm with Chicago (which is about a 30 minute train ride south). One of the things on the list was to panhandle $2 from people on Michigan Ave (the "Magnificant Mile", the main shopping drag in Chicago). One of the people my group asked someone for change who happened to be a panhandler himself and a heroin addict besides. He was actually a pretty nice guy and gave us a few pointers about the panhandling trade. In the two and a half years I've lived near Chicago, this is probably the sketchiest thing to happen to me.

Scavenger hunts really tend to make for good stories.

To answer all the questions, there will probably be around twenty five of us, about equal male/female all aged 18-19. We'll be in the centre of my city (Newcastle). It will be during the daytime, and last for a good six hours.

I really like the umbrella, the condoms and the restaurant mints. I would go with the burger king hats (heh heh) but I dont think we have any burger king outlets in town... Too bad, because I think I'd addicted to it anyway.

Some of the ideas for items we've had so far include:

witches hat

one red candle (lit)

business card for a hairdresser

a receipt for something worth 78 cents

travel agent brochure for any country in south america

Some of the ideas for pictures are:

your team with a McDonalds employee (in uniform)

a stranger holding a sign with the team name on it

two team members kissing

eight people smiling (four in a team btw)

a hand wearing blue nail polish

an opposing team (without them knowing)

Keep those ideas coming...

one picture suggestion: a really happy moose (if they get creative and think of a stuffed moose, this would be doable)

Another picture suggestion: a prominent person in city government (mayor or someone) posing with a team member

make them find the url of a writing website you attend frequently? :P

Given the conditions, a chainsaw suddenly sounds like a bad idea.

But you could always have them looking for:

- plasitc bag, from a specific shop (handy to put all the stuff away in)

- used toothbrush

- purple lipstick (or some other difficult colour)

- camemille tea

- white shoelaces

pictures:

- a human pyramid

- a man wearing high heels

Let us know how it went when you have done it. It sounds as if it will be a good one :)
