Katzaniel Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 There's a poll in the Mistrel Hall about the two image schemes we can use for images for the Black skin. If you're using that, please vote. If you're not high enough up to see the Minstrel Hall, PM me and I'll reply with the pictures so you can have a say too. Poll
Ayshela Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Silly question: there *used to be* two black skins available.. why can't there be again? for those who prefer the original, leave the original, and for those who prefer the new graphics, add that in as a separate skin option.
Katzaniel Posted January 4, 2005 Author Report Posted January 4, 2005 Did there? Pauses. Well, doesn't seem like a silly question to me. I can't answer it, though Yui might. I'll ask how difficult that would be.
Ayshela Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 yupyup Rune had two set up for a while.. the current one needed some tweaking, and while she did that she enabled a skin which was black and *red* instead of black and *blue* and had the post author's name and post count and all on the right side instead of on the left. I used that skin for such a short time that i'm embarrassed to admit i don't recall the name of it, but it *was* available for use.
Katzaniel Posted January 4, 2005 Author Report Posted January 4, 2005 I don't remember that.. but wasn't there also, for a time, some plans to allow some sort of skin-designing contest? Hmm... anyway, I posted a question to Yui in the original thread that was discussing this.
Orlan Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 The skin with the info on the other side was ugly, from a php standard, and editing it caused much in the way of headaches since the layout was so radically different, so I took it away as an option since leaving it meant anyone using it would not be able to see/use some of the Skin improvements.
Ayshela Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 *nods* not at all saying "bring back that skin" or anything like that, just noting that there *were* two available at one time, so it isn't likely that it's built into the board software to cap the available skins at three.
Yui-chan Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 True. There's nothing in the software that caps our skins at three. Orlan knows skinning better than I, but given the ease with which I mistakenly made those changes in the first place, I'm pretty confident that I could make a fourth skin pretty easily. The real issue is this, though... are we so conflicted about the change that it's worth the inefficiency of adding another skin? If everyone likes or dislikes the changes, then my inner anal retentive side would prefer to just have one black skin and keep life, digital data and board administration simple. It's not a big deal one way or the other, though, so we'll do what makes everyone most comfortable. Easy-going, ~Yui PS: Don't expect a super-fast turnaround on this from me. I will be out-of-town for the rest of this week, so probably won't be able to act on anything you decide.
Ayshela Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 well, personally, *i* use the black skin because it's much easier on my migraine-prone head than the brighter blue or tan skins. I noticed the changes made immediately because the brightness of the red/orange envelopes, etc, made for glaring spots of brightness that caused a headache within minutes. If the only option were to use the black skin with glaring bright spots, or an all-over bright skin, i'd continue to use the black skin and simply cut my available time here. That's just an choice i've been very glad not to have to make. =(
Katzaniel Posted January 7, 2005 Author Report Posted January 7, 2005 Well, it seems to me, then, that unless anyone has a compelling reason for switching, even though it's something like 11:5 for it, we shouldn't change. I mean, most of those votes were very likely based only on, "That one's a little neater," like mine was. O' course, I don't make the decision, I only posted the poll. I did like those pens though. 'Twould be so much cooler if we all had pens under our names in all the skins, methinks...
