Peredhil Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Guido says, "Yo, youse kin post anyt'ing dat dat silly sphinx and I have spoken."
reverie Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 **messenger boy, T.P. a.k.a 'the mighty lawn dart' literally pops in...** T.P. carefully unfurls the parchment from his messenge tube and reads: Reverend Loremaster, Post whatever you would like that has come from the PM's... However, I am still stumped on the Round two Questions... I currently await the advise of my Master's staff before I proceed any further... Unfortunately Quest and Foutain still have not returned from the Murder Trial. I suspect the trial long-over at this point, and judging by their long absence, I can can only guess at what they are up to. yours, Castle of the dreamlost... With that the tiny messenger excused himself, and once again popped out of the pen... *** rev...
Katzaniel Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Fine with me as well. I was wondering if others were RPing answers, and if they would get posted. It'll be neat to read.
cryptomancer Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 I am in if I can get the time to be online.
Peredhil Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Guido dances into the room (poorly) bobbing up and down and jerking about. Those who know him know this is his Happy Dance, while those who don't look carefully for a foaming muzzle. I done did it! I answered da Sphinx's riddles and kept my food!!! OoC: Oh my aching head.
cryptomancer Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 *remembers long hours writting riddles* Cryptomancer bows to the Sphinx, "truely you are the greatest of this art"
Akallabeth Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 (edited) A confused sourcerer wanders over to the tent with a large platter filled with roast pork. "Aye, Ozzy, King of Kings," he says, "does the Sphinx have more riddles left to give?" (note: Excellent poem. I like his and Coleridge's poetry best of what I've read before.) Edited January 18, 2005 by Akallabeth
cryptomancer Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 (edited) Ok... it is a good thing I can cook. *grins* I should stick to writting these instead. [edit: spelling] Edited January 19, 2005 by cryptomancer
Akallabeth Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 The confused sorcerer still stands outside the tent, still unsure if there are riddles still awaiting inside, or if this great platter of food should go to another who might appreciate it.
Tanuchan Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 OOC: I think our Riddle-Master has been snatched away by RL... but hopefully he'll be back soon ~Tanny
Akallabeth Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 At these words, spoken by an unknown person who slipped away as quickly as they had appeared, the sorcerer takes a seat on a nearby chest, then jumps up quickly and finds another chest after he is growled at by something within the first chest. He will wait patiently for the riddlemaster to arrive.
Peredhil Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 If you'd like, I've gone all the way through the Riddle Contest. I could PM you the Riddles, and you could send the results to both Ozy and I, and that way you could progress through until RL releases Ozy. Considers the kidnapped Annael, and now Ozy, and sighs.
Akallabeth Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 That'd be great. Riddles are interesting.
Katzaniel Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 If you don't mind, I'd like to send you my 5th phase answers, then, too, so I know which ones I need to keep pondering. But then everyone might want that, so think before you reply!
Peredhil Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 sure. Send everything to BOTH Ozy and I. Whomever replies first, you're still ahead for round.
Knight Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Would I be correct in assuming it's a little late for this? If it isn't, I'd like to get in... I missed this one, somehow, and I always enjoyed a good riddle..
Ozymandias Posted January 22, 2005 Author Report Posted January 22, 2005 Sheesh, I'm gone for a week, and just look at the polite anarchy. :>) Knight, you're in plenty of time. All: Check your messages!
Sweetcherrie Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Trey slides around the corner out of breath and tripping over one of his wings falling in a big mud puddle. "Man these things are getting annoying" he mumbles, as he flaps the wing back. "I heard there's somebody handing out riddles?" He says as he tries to sweep the mud of his zebra striped fur "I hope I'm not too late, cause I would like to try"
Ozymandias Posted February 4, 2005 Author Report Posted February 4, 2005 Gomen, my friends. As you may or may not know, I do not have a computer of my own. After my last reappearance in this thread, a few days later I abruptly lost one of the two computers that I commute to to get on the internet. Unfortunately, this had been the easiest one to use, so I have been completely without internet access for about the past week, which is why I did not let any of you know. Since all of you who wanted to participate and have been putting forth such great work and effort have been so good about this, and since this was entirely not your fault, I am going to see what I can do to fairly reward your efforts as I had promised, or ideally something a bit more so - however, how exactly that will happen is still in the works. But I promise you will not be shafted for my difficulties. At worst, you will get what geld I promised at the outset (as well as the riddles being posted and some pretty nifty RPing being posted too). All in all, this might take longer than the Winter Festival has left to run. If it does, it will only be a few days, but obviously special arrangements would have to be made for that too. Keep an eye on this thread for further updates. *sheepish look* So, Sweetcherrie, under the circumstances if you'd still like to participate go ahead and let me know in reply to the first riddle PM I am about to send you. If you don't want to any longer, also just let me know in reply to the PM I send you. Since the festival is so close to ending, Sweetcherrie will be the last applicant that I accept. Sorry again, and thank you again.
Ozymandias Posted February 11, 2005 Author Report Posted February 11, 2005 Okay, connection...poop...under control, and shall be on about another ten minutes or so today, then back for a few hours at least tomorrow, need to take off Sunday (as usual), but otherwise, I'm here for the forseeable and nonforseeable future. :>)
Sweetcherrie Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 still in the game... - Sweetcherrie
Katzaniel Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 I'm lost as to a second answer for the last riddle.
Ozymandias Posted February 25, 2005 Author Report Posted February 25, 2005 As it stands- My time online is still crunched enough from day to day that I'm not sure when I'll be posting up RP as well as the riddles (without their answers, so anyone who wants to continue may), and since the carnival is now over I want to give everyone who did not have a chance to finish the riddles (AKA everyone who didn't decide to quit, and who hasn't already finished) 10 geld apiece- but no more. If you've any questions or comments, put them in this thread or PM me. Either way's fine, but PM is preferable. Thanks again, everyone. It's been a lot of fun. :>)
Ozymandias Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Posted February 26, 2005 The Sphinx's riddles Round One: 'What's black and white and red all over?' Round Two: 'No legs sits on four legs as two legs sits on three.' 'What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon, and three legs in the evening?' Round Three: 'White sheep, white sheep, on a blue hill, when the wind stops, you all stand still. When the wind blows, you run away slow, white sheep, white sheep, where do you go?' 'There's this island and there is only one bridge to get on and off it. The bridge can only support 200 pounds at a time. Now there's this man who has to get three jewels across the bridge. The man weighs 198 pounds, and each jewel weighs a pound. The problem is how does the man get all the jewels across the bridge in only one trip?' 'See if you can translate the following: Y Y U R Y Y U B I C U R Y Y 4 M E' Round Four: 'We are little creatures; all of us have different features. One of us in glass is set; one of us you'll find in jet. Another you may see in tin, and the fourth is boxed within. If the fifth you should pursue, it can never fly from you. What are we?' 'Around the mill, there is a walk, After the walk, there is a key. What am I?' 'I have a hundred legs, But cannot stand. I have a long neck, But no head. I cannot see, and I'm neat and tidy, As can be. What am I?' 'The first is foremost legally The second circles outwardly The third leads in victory The last twice ends a nominee What am I?' Round Five: 'Often talked of, never seen, Ever coming, never been, Daily looked for, never here, Still approaching, coming near. Thousands for it's visit wait. But alas for their fate, Tho' they expect me to appear, They will never find me here. What am I?' 'Long legs and crooked thighs, Little head and no eyes.' 'Four and twenty white bulls Fate upon a stall, Forth came the red bull And licked them all.' 'The hangman stands at the crossroads. All must pass him. All must speak to him. If you tell him the truth, he hangs you with his noose. If you tell him a lie, he beheads you with his sword. One woman passes by him and speaks to him daily. What does she say?' 'Black within and red without, Four corners round about.' And the bonus riddle: 'Why is a raven like a writing desk?'
Ozymandias Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Posted February 26, 2005 NOTE: All OOC comments have been removed in all of the RP I will be posting, except where noted. " 'What's black and white and red all over?' " Guido scratches his head and asks, Which of deese do you want? 1) A newspaper. 2) A penguin in da blender. 3) A nun fallin' down a long set of stairs.
