Exotic Foods

It's amazing the things people will eat. For lunch, I'm having grilled rattlesnake. It's not bad, kind of like stringy fish. Some of the odd things I've eaten over the years inclued:

Horse: They actaully serve this in Croatia! When I saw it on the menu I couldn't resist.

Alligator: Being from a family of rednecks and swamp rats, 'gator tail' is almost a given here in Northeast Florida

Dog: Long story, don't ask.

Armidillo: Not bad. Really gamy.

I've eaten ostrich burgers and I think I had wild boar once (I don't really remember). I've also had bison(Yummy! or was it buffalow?) meat.

I have longed to try fried larvae ever since I watched a ducumentary on eating insects (they looked really tastey!)... but I am perfectly happy to sample any insect dish - just haven't had the opportunity yet.

What amazes me is what people won't eat..... some people seem to have a horrific lack of curiosity.

After a good African upbringing, I have eaten a few types of game.

Kudu, cape buffalo, springbok, impala, duiker, and ostritch.

I love venison, red meat in general, and most other types of meat too.

Biltong, *dried meat* like beef jerky, is a favorite, (and yes all of the amimals listed have been eaten in this manner too)

Squid, and baby octopus are yummy too. As is duck.

I would most likely try anything once, if it is meat, hey, *grins* Carnivor!

Yeah, about the most daring things I've ever eaten are eel, mussels, buffalo, and haggis. If I ever get the chance to eat prairie oysters I will though. Everyone always says, "If you're ever offered a prairie oyster, don't eat it; it's actually the ball of a bull!" but seriously, what's really so wrong about that?

Beyond the squimish, sick feeling most men get in the pit of their stomach when they learn that? I mean, take it from the animal's viewpoint. Bad enough you've been killed, gutted, chopped into dozens of pieces... but then they fry your family jewels and eat them. My spirit'd be flipping out.

Bar none the worst exotic food experience I ever had was trying 'beetles' in South Korea... I was literally gagging... Luckily, my friend quickly dispenced me some gummie bears from her back back, so medical attention was not necessary...

The second worst was trying Sushie with wasabi mayonaise (shudders) on Delta Airlines while flying over Japan. Long story short: it took one emergency room visit, three IV's, and two weeks to recover from the experience...

On a happier, note I enjoy eating bison, thai-food, and non-airline sushie on a regular basis...

Airline-Sushi just sounds so wrong it makes "Supermarket Sushi" sound appetizing.

Unfortunately Thai food no longer agrees with me. It's been over 20 years since I've lived in Thailand and the food is just too spicy for me now. :(
