Hmm, never was into the candy bars, though kits kats and nestle cruch always were a fav... Hmm, never could stomach the zero bars though... My weakness resides in donuts and way over priced chai! From basics glaze to old fashioned caked crullers... mmmmmm gotta love the "Hot donut light" Krispie Creme Donuts fresh out of the oven. And i also have weakness for soda and all things cheesecake. That's a personal favorite of mine. But otherwise I'm a savories, not sweets kinda guy. You still can't go past a tasty bag of "Poppa Jacks" and the freedom of the western world (Coca Cola) to wash it all down. You can keep your fancy chocolate... epinephrine

I must say that, as stupid as it sounds, it taste like nature chips with sea salt and black pepper on it. It is pretty mild to my taste and a glass of water is recommended due to the amount of salt in it. It's not my favorite flavor.
Tyrion Posted October 10, 2004 Report Posted October 10, 2004 (edited) My friends and I have been eating quite a few donuts these last couple of months... at Tim Horton's it's 3.99 for 6 or 5.25 for 12, so we buy the dozen if there's just two of us. Ended up buying two dozen for 5 people yesterday, but a few of the people there were amateurs and only ate one or two each. I ended up eating 8. The best are the maple frosting, custard-filled ones followed closely by the blueberry jam-filled ones. Chocolate frosting is acceptable, but nothing beats maple. Cool... I'm a weenie now... Wyvern Posted December 18, 2004 Author Report Posted December 18, 2004 I tried out a couple of new varieties of candies that came out recently, and must say that I'm very impressed with this new batch. Wasn't expecting them to be so excellent, and they definitely make up for the gimmicky nature of 90% of the previous candies I reviewed. Recently, I tried: Hershey's Take 5 Bar - This is the candy bar of the new millenium. Ever since Ben & Jerry's came out with the flavor "Chubby Hubby" as a practical joke that turned into a stroke of brilliance, pretzles have been playing a larger and larger role in the chocolate candy market. Now, Hershey's releases this bar, possibly their secret weapon given its fancy golden wrapping paper, which brings the devestating combo of chocolate, caramel, peanut butter, pretzles and peanuts together into a single bar. The result is fantastically unique, unlike Hershey's typical spin-offs, and tastes excellent. What's more, like Twix, you actually get two Take 5 Bars in every package despite it being priced as one candy bar. Fortunatly, nothing on this bar indicates that its limited edition, so hopefully it'll be here to stay. Highly recommended. Butterfinger Crunch - Another excellent candy bar that came out of the blue. I've never been a big fan of Butterfingers in the past due to their texture, but Butterfinger Crunch uses the deceptively simple formula of taking the peanut butter crisp in Butterfinger bars and applying it to waffers. Ultimately, the bar comes across as an amalgam of the taste of Butterfinger and the textures of Kit Kat bars, with a large size to top off the package and make it complete. Definitely a keeper, give it a shot. Hershey's - Nut Lovers Limited Edition - This is unfortunatly just another of those gimmicky "limited edition" spin-offs. The bar advertises and has a bunch of different kinds of nuts in it, but is ultimately nowhere near as good as Hershey's with Almonds due to inconsistancies in its flavor. Since Hershey's with Almonds wasn't exactly the most exciting candy bar to begin with, I'm gonna have to give the thumbs down to this one. Sweet Tarts Shockers - I don't get fruity candy all that often, but I was strangely in the mood for some a couple of evenings ago so I decided to try this out. Sweet Tart Shockers essentialy rip off the formula of the Nuclear Warheads candy by making them super sour for the first seconds, then sweet and chewy afterwards. It's a complete clone of Nuclear Warheads, but is still good if you like that sorta thing. Plus, I think there are more Sweet Tart Shockers per package than there are Nuclear Warheads, so maybe it's worth checking for in the end.

I've always loved the Reese's peanut-butter combination so that may influence my opinion on this one: *Drooling* I'm addicted! Not quite, but the peanutty-chocolate-shell-crunch is now either my favourite or very close. The White-Chocolate Smartie Bar - Although this is good, it's just not the same as the regular chocolate version. And this from someone who has always preferred white to brown chocolate. I think I just miss the peanut butter that's in the other type.

Cinnamon.... Yep. It wasn't spit it out of your mouth horrible, but it definitely wasn't chocolate in peanut butter.

If I had to choose between drinking that, and drinking diet caffeine free stuff....I'd take the diet caffeine free. Another seasonal favorite of mine, Hershey's Cookies and Mint Nuggets. Wyvern Posted January 5, 2005 Author Report Posted January 5, 2005 I recently had the opportunity to come across a box of Toffifee candies at a duty free airport booth in Europe, which I decided to try out given Quincunx's recommendation. My expectations were naturally high, and upon first eating one by swiftly chewing it I was a bit indifferent to its flavor and slightly disappointed. However, sucking on them proved to be a much more flavorful experience, and once I discovered this method of eating them they became quite addictive. Overall, I wouldn't call them mind-blowing, but they were definitely tasty and worth my purchase. Next up on the list of recommended candies to try: Lady Celes Crusador's recommendation of "Zero Bar," easily found here in the States. Still struggling in my search for mint M&Ms, mint KitKats, and strawberry KitKats... perhaps they were limited edition flavors?

On the other hand, I see Toffifee all over the place here, which I find fascinating. I mean, that some brands would be so hard to find in some parts of the world, and plentiful elsewhere. Do tastes run so different? Surely it can't be entirely economics. On the other hand, here's one that's stood the test of time (ie, I've seen it two years in a row 'round Christmastime) - Winter Oreos. These are regular oreos covered in one layer of white chocolate. Much better than regular oreos, in my opinion, which are merely decent. These... have white chocolate! (Mmm, despite my New-Year's resolution for less chocolate, I'm going to have to go have one now...)

At least, that's the only time I've ever seen them. which is sad. it also explains why there are at least three bags of the mint m&ms laying in various places around my house. I'd be happy to share though.

Wyvern Posted January 19, 2005 Author Report Posted January 19, 2005 Today, I decided to try out the "Zero" bar at Lady Celes Crusador's recommendation. I found it decent, slightly vanilla-oriented in flavor and a bit too chewy with the nougat for my taste. Overall, it wasn't a bad candy bar, but I doubt that I'd get it again. I also recently decided to try out the cereal "Waffle Crisp," which recieved a mixture of rave reviews and "disgusting" comments from my friends. Personally, I thought it was a very tasty cereal, with just the right amount of maple syrup flavor and texture to emulate a waffle, though the aftertaste of it left something to be desired. Never the less, I'd recommend it to fans of sweetened junk food cereals everywhere.

Wyvern Posted March 20, 2005 Author Report Posted March 20, 2005 Ben & Jerry's came out with a slew of new ice cream flavors recently, so I decided to play the part of junkfood connaiseur and give them the Almost Dragonic taste test. Here are some descriptions of the results: Ben & Jerry's "Marsha Marsha Marshmellow" Ice Cream - This s'mores-inspired flavor combines chocolate ice cream with toasted marshmellow and graham cracker swirls. The result is a quality flavor that may not match up to the best that Ben & Jerry's has to offer, but is never the less a welcome addition to their catalogue. The highlight of this flavor is definitely the toasted marshmellow swirl, which actually tastes toasted as opposed to the normal generic marshmellows that are thrown into ice cream. Ben & Jerry's "The Gobfather" Ice Cream - Subtitling an ice cream "The Flavor That Can't be Refused" is risky business to begin with, particularly when the only unique attribute the flavor boasts is a nougat swirl. Unfortunatly, this combination of vanilla ice cream, chocolate covered almonds, and nougat swirl is pretty much a let down, largely due to the nougat which tastes odd and out of place. Nut enthusiasts may want to give it a shot, but you'd probably be better off with a Reeses Fast Break bar to satisfy your nougat cravings. Ben & Jerry's "Fossil Fuel" Ice Cream - This flavor screams "cute gimmick" from its description, boasting dinosaur-shaped fudge pieces that you can "dig up" with your spoon. Never the less, the flavor succeeds on some levels thanks to the inclusion of chocolate cookie pieces in the mix, as well as an odd not-quite-vanilla flavor tagged "sweet cream ice cream." While good in its own right, "Fossil Fuel" is unfortunatly overshadowed by the Ben & Jerry's flavor "Dublin Mudslide," as it follows most of the ingredients of the latter flavor while toning down the taste a bit and adding gimmicky fudge bits. Ben & Jerry's "Dave Matthew's Band Magic Brownie" Ice Cream - Ben & Jerry's seem to generally have a problem when it comes to fruit flavors in ice cream. Aside from the brilliant "Cherry Garcia" (which remains one of their best) and the pretty nice "Primary Berry Graham," their fruit flavors have often been flops. "Dave Matthew's Band Magic Brownie," a flavor concocted by the rock band of the same name, combines vanilla ice cream, raspberry swirl, and fudge brownies. The flavor is not too bad, far better than some of Ben & Jerry's previous fruit catastrophes (their *awful* limited edition apple pie flavor comes to mind), but "Magic Brownie" is ultimately unexciting and skippable. Next please. Ben & Jerry's "Chocolate Therapy" Mood Magic Ice Cream - limited edition - "Mood Magic" seems to be a new variety of limited edition Ben & Jerry's flavors that focuses on catering to specific tastes that people crave. Being a chocoholic, I was naturally excited to find this flavor at the market, as it combines chocolate ice cream with chocolate pudding ice cream and chocolate cookies. Overall, however, I'm uncertain if my chocolate cravings were really satisfied by it. The different varieties of chocolate flavors didn't really stand out and all blended together... next time, they should try combining milk chocolate with dark chocolate and white chocolate. Now that would be chocolately. That just about wraps up the new Ben & Jerry's ice cream spree. Far more important than these new flavors, however, is Ben & Jerry's permanent reissue of one of their best limited edition flavors. "Dublin Mudslide," which I mentioned earlier in this thread, has returned thanks to popular demand. This one comes highly, highly recommended... possibly one of their best flavors.
