cryptomancer Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Dreams unrealized, and wishes un-granted, dance upon my soul, Leaving under their footfalls the broken shards of a crystal heart. Long has it been since a heart of gemlike beauty lay within my being. The last was shattered by the pounding of lies and deceit, Amidst whose, my own struck the hardest upon its fragile form. So in my sorrow and shame, I replaced its beauty with stone, Forging upon its sculptured face the images of memory, Carving in the coldness of its nature, the dark shadows In which I hide still, shamed by myself, fearful, and hurt. Love shone her light on me still, dimming the depths of shadows in which I hid Brightening the beauty of love known, with the true, pure, warming glow Of new love found. Building upon my life the foundations of its strength. Using the rock of my heart to strengthen its hold, and perfect The all welcoming fortress of its walls. I once saw a vision, of a crystal heart, centered with the red of love. In the dreams of blest knowledge, myself I saw, drink of the red, Drink again of love so pure and true, that it my very being filled, And in the purity of its richness, coloured all that I am, and Once more igniting the fires that wrought my heart of old. So now I hold love above all, for I have found sanctuary In the embracing arms of love that found my heart of stone, In the center of my being, mounted upon my soul, I watched as love’s fires burned away the scarred façade Of stone, and the true gem again reveal. For where are gems of great purity found? But in the cold embrace of rock and stone. And where is love to be found? But in the heart of one that by true love is known.
Ayshela Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 mmmmm wish i had something more to say than i like this, but words have been avoiding me in droves lately.. i do believe this is my favourite line, though: Leaving under their footfalls the broken shards of a crystal heart. nicely done.
Tanuchan Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 The first stanza as a whole is what I like most... a crystal heart, it's beauty shattered not only by events somewhat out of our control (dreams and wishes not come true) but, sometimes, by ourselves. And the contrast to a stone heart, although still shaped and holding memories (so not an unfeeling heart) and so still able to hide in its core a gem. As an artisan picking his way, Thus I shape the stone Following the hard veins that hide beauty Sculpting that which will hold my memories Engraving my dreams and wishes Making me forever remember What I am, in my core, Although hidden it must be, Protected by the rocky layers Of a heart of stone. Thanks for sharing ~Tanny
