The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

Soaring in the cloudless skys above The Pen watching the goings on at the carnival Gryphon decides to try his hand at another impressive entrance - one has to keep in practice after all...

Closing his wings he begins to dive aiming to land in a clear spot near the tavern. Feeling the wind wrapping its self around his body like a comfortable cloak he plumets towards the ground at high speeds, waiting, waiting for just the right moment to open his wings and land gracefully...

With a crack Gryphon opens his wings and hangs, momentarily suspended in the air before landing posed outside the tavern's door.

Lovely entrance - it's a shame no-one is around to see it... oh well, blame the carnival.

Wandering inside Gryphon notes the lack of patrons, everyone being off enjoying the carnival he approaches the recruitment office and tries to open the door... it moves a fraction then sticks! Throwing his weight against the door it moves another fraction before sticking again.

Looking around to be sure that no-one is watching he casts a complicated bit of magic and grows insubstantial then fades from sight.

Moments later Gryphon fades back into view inside the recruitment office and gazes around in amazement at all the paperwork littering the room. "Wow, Wyvern's not been in *here* for a while... probably caught up down at the carnival."

Strolling over to the large (also paper covered) desk Gryphon extracts a piece of parchment from a small pouch and lays it on the top of a tall stack of paper, on it is one line: I'd like to apply to join please - Gryphon.

Sitting back down to watch the door Gryphon waits to see how Wyvern gets into his office when the door is obscured by clutter and paperwork... To amuse himself while he waits Gryphon creates illusionary dancing glowing lights and sends them to seek out oddities in Wyverns office.

After waiting for Wyvern to look in on his office for an hour or so the waiting Gryphon sighs in frustration...

"Should have known by the state of this office that I'm in for a long wait... Still I do wonder what's happened to the Almost Dragon that runs this joint."

Calling back his display of glowing dancing lights Gryphon starts to mutter to them in a low chanting tone:

"Bring to me news,

the whispers in the wind,

the light, the fun, the laughter,

on this little spell I send.

Show me the whereabouts,

of the one I seek,

where's the almost dragon,

when he's not here in his seat?"

The glowing balls spin faster and faster as the small chant takes place and a picture begins to formulate in the air before the eyes of the fascinated Gryphonic watcher.

Shortly thereafter a surprised yell escapes from Gryphon's mouth as a water balloon drops out of nowhere on top of his head having been brought accidentally and unasked for by his spell. Meanwhile the images in the air show Wyvern perched on a seat above the water in the dunking booth as Katzaniel prepairs to throw what appears to be a spear...

Not wanting to get the spear coming unasked also Gryphon dismisses the magic now at least knowing why Wyvern hasn't appeared in answer to his application yet.

Hours later Gryphon sits, still fidgeting in the recruitment office, certain that it'd be bad manners to leave before his application to join had been reviewed...

Gryphon mutters to himself:

"Blast my timing - there might be no-one by here until the end of the carnival and I did so want to go enjoy some of that"

Suddenly he goes silent, a look of glee passing across his face, chased closely by intense concentration... magic begins to gather and pool in a small silvery ball like shape that hangs at the perfect height for a sitting Gryphon to stare into it.

Slowly inside the twisting ball of magic a scene takes place - one that perfectly mymics the carnival outside the walls of the recruitment office.

Reaching out with a claw Gryphon prods the ball of magic several times creating a dark spot in the middle of the image where the booths are and then he wills the magic to fill it with a booth of his own desire and creation... Outside in the carnival a new tent starts to take form mimicing the magic...

OOC: gotta leave this thread to go create a booth now... it's so tricky trying to be in two places at once! :)

Gryphons frown gradually deepens as hours of waiting turn into days, and with each passing minute his shiny balls of magic slowly fade to dimmer hues of their former glory. The eager applicant glances towards the grandfather clock resting at the corner of the Office as he patiently waits, rustling his feathers in a worried manner as he notices just how late the Elder of Initiates' is. Lifting himself from his seat and clearing his throat in the hopes of signaling his worries to nearby Pen members with a bird call, Gryphon suddenly perks his head up as he hears the nob of the Office door turning, accompanied by a familiar low murmer of almost dragonic cursing...

"Damn door... blocked yet again, and by a paperwork avalanche I wager. Hmmm..."

Upon hearing Wyverns distraught voice from the other end of the doorway, Gryphon immediatly brightens up, his balls of magic fully illuminating themselves and swinging back into motion. Smiling to himself and crossing his arms over his chest, the feathered applicant taps a foot on the ground patiently as he curiously observes the manner that Wyvern deals with the jammed door.

"Woody..." Wyvern hisses to the door, kneeling down on one knee in order to speak to it in a more personal manner. "I thought we had an agreement: no more steel key locks, no more door jams."

Gryphon raises a brow as he hears the door speak back to Wyvern in some indecipherable dialiact that sounds like a cross between the rustling of tree branchs and door creaks. After the door has finished speaking, Wyvern sighs glumly and hisses:

"O.K, fine... the next person the Pen sends to oil your hinges will be a babe that somehow speaks in door. Now, will you please clear away the paperwork blocking your path so I can get inside and respond to Gryphons application?"

The door responds with a sound that ressembles a saw moving over a log, then makes the noise of a papershredder as he summons his deity of choice: Mahagonni Closhet. Gryphon jumps back as all of the drawers in Wyverns Office begin opening and closing simultaneously, creating a strong gust of wind that blows the paperwork away from the door and allows it to open. The eager applicant quickly recovers from his startled state as he watches Wyvern stride into the Office, saluting the overgrown lizard as he wanders towards him for a formal greeting.

"Greetingsss Gryphon." hisses the reptilian Elder in an apologetic manner, extending a scaly claw and shaking the applicants hand. "Apologies for my lengthy absence... it's a long story involving pies, dunk booths, fortunes, and misinterpreted Almost Dragonic Brand Manuals of Leaf Etiquette™ (only 12 geld a piece!). I hope I didn't keep you waiting too lo- GET DOWN!"

Gryphon stammers as Wyvern grabs him by his left arm and immediately drops to the ground, taking the feathered applicant down with his weight. The overgrown lizard carefully watches as one of Gryphons glowing magic balls floats past them in the air, then frantically hisses:

"Spotlights! Don't move a muscle, Gryphon... I didn't realize they'd be onto my hiding place so soon. I'll ACCEPT your application, then we'll split up to evade them, you got it?"

"I-" starts Gryphon in the hopes of explaining how the balls of light are his own, but before he can continue, Wyvern stamps his application ACCEPTED and makes a dash for the nearest window.

;-)

OOC: An ACCEPTED application, Gryphon. Welcome to the Mighty Pen! :) I apologize for the length of time that's elapsed since you applied and I responded, and hope that the wait wasn't too grueling. I look forward to reading more of your writing, as well as participating with you in numerous community events. Once again, welcome! ^_^
