purple_shadows Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 You asked me how do I deal And I told you I do what I must to stay sane But what is sanity I know that insanity Is when you do something Over and over again Expecting different results Dr. Phil would ask me How’s that working for ya In that Texas drawl And I’d tell him Not very well But I’d still sit here Bored out of my mind Unable to move Or find any sort of motivation Because my world is on The other side of this screen And I’m wondering If maybe we made a mistake When the only thing That keeps me going I can’t have everyday You feel it too It distances us more than The distance that is Already there It’s funny how a simple question Changes your entire Outlook on a situation When before that Question was asked Everything was simple And good and there Wasn’t this constant ache I wonder if we made a mistake.
Ayshela Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 I do what I must to stay sane But what is sanity an excellent question. if you find out, let me know, will you?
Mira Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Mira's two cents: The short lines conveyed (to me at least) an almost erratic sense of urgency that fit well with the title. I don't know why, but I really enjoyed the way the last two lines rhymed. It seemed to conclude the piece well. In some distant way, this reminds me of a piece that I am currently working on. I think you've just inspired me to finish it. Irrelevant side-note: The question "what is sanity" is one that I have asked myself on numerous occasions.
Ayshela Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 *nods* i agree that the short and broken line lengths work well for this. i think they show, in a more concrete form, the broken thought patterns so common with such a circumstance - the way thoughts seem to start and trail off to nothingness, or turn to something else entirely.
