Katzaniel Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 I've been playing with the member listing capability and noticed a few things: First, we have no Fix-It Gnomes, Keepers, Official Non-Members or Validatings. Obviously, the Official Non-Members that weren't eaten by me were scared off by me , but how does one become a Fix-It Gnome? Also, Jechum. I can pretend to understand that he has 8,388,607 posts, he probably posted the archives or something like that. But how can he have made some 24,000% of the posts in this forum? Or do his total posts count old Pen posts, while the total forum posts don't? But really. What's with the Fix-It Gnome?
The Portrait of Zool Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 Actually, Tyrion is the Official non-member (see bottom of list): http://www.patrickdurham.net/themightypen/index.php?showtopic=7722 Of course, the system doesn't show him. I believe Jechum made up his 'enormous' post-count when we started the other Pen site as a bit of a joke - because he could. As for fix-it gnomes, I guess we'll have to fix that.
Ayshela Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 i believe the fix-it-gnomes were too busy stamping out board greeblings and gremlins to be officially counted...
Orlan Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 The Fix-it Gnome is a position I use every once and a while. I didn't want to mess with my own permissions to I created the Fix-It Gnome group as an uber group so I can switch to it and have total access to fix problems and bugs that come up. Though Ayshela's explanation is more phun teehee
Valdar and Astralis Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 We have no gnomes. Rather, we have several gnomies. And one of them is Minta. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Astralis kazooms around on his mechadragon setting off forest fires, making large parts of the pen keep vanish and wandering out of the gaping holes only slightly dishevled after going "wowowowowowYAYBOOM!". And he's the tame one.
Katzaniel Posted February 19, 2004 Author Report Posted February 19, 2004 Good answers all. (I'm afraid, I'm afraid!!) Unfortunately my brain responds to answers with more questions (I anticipated this when I subtitled the topic "and other musings"... hope you guys don't mind ) Why don't these so-called "Walls of the Pen" show up on the main page? I remember finding them once before because I had read that thing about Zool's chicken (Zool's a chicken, hehe) but I don't remember how. Who is Tyrion (and when can I find him napping? ) why he doesn't show up on our list? I mean, how can he be a member and not a member?
Ayshela Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 the "walls of the pen" are up at the very top of the page by where it says "logged in as:" and for me they do show up on every page. are you not seeing them, somewhere?
Peredhil Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 Tyrion has been around longer than the current Pen site. He's a regular in IRC, and has the type of mind for details that makes him one of the few people who can correct me on something in the Lord of the Rings which I wouldn't bother to check to see if he's right. He's also a very moral person without being pushy about it - a vegetarian who doesn't hate carnivores, a fellow truth fanatic, and a good person to have as a friend. Well aware of his own flaws and having high personal standards, he's prolly blushing and denying as he read this. As to why he's not a member... I don't know, but I am confident that there is a rational reason - I've just come to expect that he lives his values instead of talking about them to others, and that the reason will come to light in time. -Peredhil's approving two-cents.
Tyrion Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Okay... I'm gonna start this post off with a big O_o. And then I'll just point out that you can't believe everything Peredhil says about people because he's just too nice. So basically if you want to know the truth about a person, you have to consider everything Peredhil says, take away a significant amount of niceness, and maybe make a few qualities into flaws.
Katzaniel Posted February 20, 2004 Author Report Posted February 20, 2004 But... but... you have a member number!! I imagine Peredhil speaks accurately for how others see you, yourself for how you see you, and the truth somewhere in there. I'd rather takes Peredhil's point of view on any person any day than try to imagine faults, be they there or not Nice to meet you Tyrion. Hope my self-appointed title doesn't offend. *Bows* Ayshela: Yes, I see it now. Along with the FAQ and so forth (actually I found it a little earlier today...) I guess I wondered why it wasn't in the same place as the other "rooms" if you know what I'm trying to say. I was confused, but I am confused no longer. Thanks!
Tyrion Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Nah, I don't mind... I suggest a fast method of cooking like pan-frying, as opposed to a slower one like braising. I don't exercise much so my meat is gonna be milder in flavor. You might wanna cook with quite a bit of butter and/or oil too, I'm very lean. Oh, and I forbid you to eat turnip as a side dish to me, it would be offensive since I believe turnips taste awful. You should settle for some nice potatoes instead. Enjoy!
The Portrait of Zool Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 *Zool laughs as he quietly slips away, muttering how he TRIED to tell him, but he just wouldn't listen to me either...* He heh he he...
