Salinye Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Can you believe this wind? Trees are down EVERYWHERE! Including two on my street. (One right onto my neighbors house. :0() I went to go get my haircut and it was crazy. I saw three houses with trees down on them. BIG trees too! They say the reason so many trees are coming down is because the wind is coming from a rare direction and so the trees sink their roots in to protect themselves from wind assault from the opposite direction. (Where it usually comes from.) I thought I would be blown away when I went out to talk to my neighbor! I can't believe it's this strong! Here's to hoping all you other Washington People have power and tree free houses! ~Salinye
Falcon2001 Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 There's a windstorm? o_O The heck? I suppose I'm farther north than you, but I'm fine...maybe it'll hit tonight. That would suck. I suppose we'd just play AD&D though.
Ayshela Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 fine way up north of you here, though from the forecast i got this morning it's supposed to be "very windy" tonight. *shrug* right now we're just gusting to 31 which is really immaterial as wind speeds go. Glad the trees all missed you! *hugs*
Salinye Posted December 4, 2003 Author Report Posted December 4, 2003 You guys are lucky! Turn on the news, it's craziness! In Issaquah a tree split a house in half and some poor woman is pinned in her bathroom by it! Then down the street from us, the wind blew all the trusses off a house! Not sure if it was new construction or not. But if it was a finished house, then that is some SHODDY construction. If it weren't for the danger factor, it's actually kinda cool to have such high strong winds. Also, if you listen to the news TONS of people are without power. Ours keeps flickering, but we haven't lost it yet, and I hope we don't!!! If it's heading your way tonight, move all the garbage cans and loose things in to the garage! ~Salinye
Alaeha Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Well... I suppose there are worse places than the bathroom. At least if you're scared peeless there, it's the right place. ... though I'd rather be locked in the kitchen during a prolonged power outage myself... I'd take it as my duty to salvage the ice cream and save it from going to waste. But seriously... you people stay safe. I swear if you go and die on me, I'll hunt you down and kill you.
Falcon2001 Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 I love high winds, other than the lack of electricity. And now that I live in the city, there's a better chance of my power being back on within a couple hours instead of days like out in the boonies. I like to climb out on top of the house when it starts gusting.
Ayshela Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 *nod* i like being in town partially for that reason (though being out by the refineries we weren't often out of power for too long), and partially because we're MUCH less likely to wake up in Oz here than we ever were there. Though, Falcon, if you're climbing on top of your house in the wind storms.. do us all a favor, will you? Make sure you have something to hang on to, and do remember that you really cannot fly.. you go and get yourself killed and i'll never speak to you again!
Falcon2001 Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Psh - of course I can fly. My nickname's Falcon - Falcons have wings. It's simple I just don't fly for very long, and it's more a dive than a flight.
Zariah Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Over here in the DC metropolitan area it is snowing! (Small flakes now) There is a snow storm watch from now until Saturday.....
Ayshela Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 still working on that "throwing yourself at the ground very hard, and missing" type of flight? just be careful, it's painful when it doesn't work.
Lady Celes Crusader Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 I'M glad that you're allright Salinye. You've got me worried a bit.
Aardvark Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 There's been all sortsa crazy weather goin' round. Some say it's due to that there solar wind blastin' away at our little 'ole rock in the middle of space. Others believe it's some kind of voodoo magic. Yet others think it's a grand conspiracy of biblical proportions Meanwhile, I sit here in my Crazy Weather Machine, mixin' up another batch of crazy weather to unleash on the world. Let us see, ahh here's one. SUNSHINE!!! IN THE MIDDLE OF LONDON!!! BOW DOWN BEFORE ME, PUNY MORTALS!!!!$!#$!@$!@
Ayshela Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 oh my.. sunshine in the middle of London.. that's even more astonishing than sunshine here in the rain belt!! Aardvark, stop messin' with our heads, here! LOL
Gyrfalcon Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Heh, it was sort of funny. My store was at the edge of the power outages. Everything down the main street, and all the other computer stores down the side street we're on lost power, but we only got a few flickers. *grins* Luckily, my house barely even got flickers, which was good, though I guess a good chunk of people haven't had power since 4AM, and haven't yet regained power. Now that has to suck.
Aardvark Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Blackouts aren't so bad. Gives me an excuse to use candles without being accused of being a wierdo wiccan whacko or some kind of hippy fruitcake. I really should stop using cans of hairspray to light them, though. I've gone through too many sets of curtains in my life.
Savannah Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Yes but Aardvark-you forget. You ARE a wiccan weirdo whack! But a very nice one. Weather everywhere seems to be a little strange. We had snow flurries all day last Saturday but no sticking and today it has rained and sleeted and they say snow tonite. Of course I am in Tennessee and here if you don't like the weather you just gotta wait awhile and it will change.
lumpenproletariat Posted December 6, 2003 Report Posted December 6, 2003 sunshine in london, hah very good
Yatsuna13 Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 there hasn't been any strange weather beside snow here in the east... slick roads...lots of accidents...nope, all seems normal here...
Aardvark Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 I've just changed my opinion of blackouts, after being struck by one at a very inopportune moment. I hate friggin blackouts, they're the work of the devil. They've gotta hurry up and develop microfusion reactors, so I don't have to worry about power again
Valdar and Astralis Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Send some wind this way, please windstorm people \>_</ It's set to a sweltering 36 degrees today, and no wind makes the air mucky. And FLIES, damm them. The garden's dying, and more importantly, the computer overheats every hour or so. I hate summer. . .
Yui-chan Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Didn't anyone civilized ever travel down there and teach you people how to make air conditioners, Valdar? Life without them is too barbaric to contemplate. Tongue-in-cheek, ~Yui
Lady Celes Crusader Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Well, when it's not wind, it's snow. I hope that those of you who live in the North-eastern States had fun with the snow.
