The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

In a cottage by the sea,

There lives someone who might be me.

Her hair is the color of the sun,

Like mine once was done.

Her eyes are the color of the darkened sky,

The same color of my own two eyes.

She lays claim to a lovely name,

And mine is just the same.

But she's got a certain shine,

That never could be mine.

In a cottage by the sea,

There lives someone who might be me.

If I'd lived in a better time,

When gods walked the earth and with mortals dined.

I was reading Patricia McKillip's Something Rich and Strange , and a line came to me, "In a cottage by the sea," and the second line just naturally followed. I worked on it from there.
