written late at night when once again i CANNOT sleep, and the lack is getting wearing. apologies for typos, bad grammar, or lack of skill. :)

~~~
i've slid into a sleep-dep funk
from endless turns of night to day
my thought processes all have sunk
to "what's the safest thing to say?"
i stare up to the stars at night
when endless blackness calms my mind
then glaring daylight draws my sight
to start the day one step behind
the must-do lists and chores i dread
are piling higher as i try
to stretch the day and get ahead
but endless effort makes me cry
tears of frustration as i creep
into a corner far away
from those who would not let me weep
or even form the words to say
"the price of keeping up's to steep.
if i can't die, then.. let me sleep!"
I'm with ya Hon'. I'm doing 50+ hour days lately, with 4-6 hours of sleep between. I used to shrug these off when I was younger, but I feel age making a difference. A time-lag in thinking and movements.
Heh, Let's let go of the world and get some sleep. :P
precisely. that subtle lag between seeing, recognizing, and acting or reacting.. also known as the ohno-moment. :-\ i'm generally running about 2-3 hours sleep out of every thirty, so between us we're quite a pair.
*hugs* Peredhil gently, before sinking gratefully into protection and desperately needed sleep
This was a great poem to read, there was energy in it.. how silly that may sound for a poem on sleep deprivation. I enjoyed it a lot, thank you for sharing. I hope you find some peace soon *hugs*
*Appy tip-toes out again, smiling on the sleeping bodies*
Aww no, doesn't sound silly at all! Sleep deprivation of necessity involves energy - nervous energy or adrenaline most commonly. :) When the driving force fails, you collapse, but there's always a current in the "i canNOT sleep"
*hugs*
Ah yes, the motto of the AP student: "Sleep is for the weak."
I so sympathize.
to stretch the day and get ahead
I understand. There simply aren't enough hours in the day.
Yes, dying is someimes preferable. I love how all high-school kids consider sleeping a recreation.
i'll get enough sleep when i'm dead. between now and then it doesn't look likely.
