Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Wormtail will have something to do with Harry's survival? (If, indeed he is meant to survive). After he (Harry) saved the rat's life in Prisoner of Azkaban, Dumbledore told Harry that Wormtail now had a debt of his life to Harry, and as much as the boy may dislike it such things can be useful. I can't help but wonder...

Let the games begin! Round One Edit: SORRY!

CheerMynx glided once more to the middle of the stage, smiling widely at the gathered crowd on the beach. The cluster of contestants stood nervously to one side, in all of their various glorys. Two one side of the stage sat the judges table, two of the seats already filled but the middle one remained empty. Waiting for silence, CheerMynx grinned wider when it was awarded to her and began to speak.... "Okay everyone we are like so totally ready for round one! As you know from the original signup, round number one is, like, your introductions to the audience and our wonderful judges - OH! I forgot to introduce them!" Grinning flakishly, CheerMynx turned her attention to the table. "We have the adorable Gryphon, the awesome Peredhil, and our absent judge Mynx will be along in just a few moments!" CheerMynx returned her attention to the crowd and the contestants. "Okay so here's how the introductions work: Come up in whatever order and give a little speach about yourself. You will be marked on poise and delivery. Tell us why you think you should be our winner!" Grinning wider, CheerMynx looked around to make sure she had been heard. "Okay guys! it officially begins! You have one week from today to complete this!" Gliding off the stage, CheerMynx's form shifted, losing the pale blonde tints in her hair for the more common deep gold as the gown was replaced by a deathrobe. Smiling at the two other judges as she took her seat, Mynx turned her attention to the stage to wait for the first contestant. OOC: eep misspelt the title Little help?

All I have to say at the moment is Harry Potter is as much a git as Peter Parker and deserves a swift kick up the arse. *grins* Sorry, but I think the reasoning "I love you but am going to dump you BECAUSE I love you and don't want you to get hurt" is the DUMBEST reasoning to exist. Good book though... Shame about Dumbledore...

Samantha of Aldwin Samantha is a young woman who looks to be in her early twenties. Her family has been in the political limelight for many years and she has grown to the role admirably, helped by the fact that nearly every member of her family is involved with the Courts. Her most distinctive aspect is both her pet hobby and her hair. Samantha has made mage craft her main focus of study outside of the Courts, and asa well as that has also paid particular attention to her shapeshifting. Samantha has adapted herself with many animal forms and their various mannerisms moreso than one usually would. The generally serious study of magic has left Samantha with a permanent white stripe in her raven black hair (think Rogue from the X-Men). More out of personal preference, than anything, Samantha never changes the stripe when she shapeshifts, making her easy to recognise by the write stripe no matter what she is. Samantha is an aspiring young woman who enjoys her family's status and her placement in the Courts, and always appears amiciable and agreeable to her peers, despite whatever her opinions of them may be.

Amidst the growing crowd on the beach, a small army of kitten minions appeared, quickly building first a low catwalk styled stage along an area of the waterfront, and then a booth next to it. In a swish of satiny fabric, CheerMynx glided onto the stage, smiling widely at the small crowd who had gathered in curiosity. Waiting for the minions to disappear, CheerMynx stopped in the centre of the stage and struck a pose, before she began to speak "It is like so totally time everyone! Welcome to the first ever Summer Carnival Beauty Pageant! The wonderful Gryphon has set up the portal from the Pen to this beautiful beach, so now it's time to put this perfect setting to use. So, first off you all need to like totally know that this contest is open to anyone, okay? That means female, male, animal, mineral, vegetable, you are all like more than welcome to enter! The Pageant will be broken up into 5 areas and a panel of three judges will decide who is to be our Beauty King/Queen/Whatever! The 5 areas are as follows: Introductions Formal Wear Talent Show One Question Interview Swim Wear Each section will be judged for its creativity in the writing and description of the situation. There's a prize of 50 Geld waiting for the winner and a runner up prize of 25 Geld! So come on peoples! You have until July 18 to sign up! Don't be shy!" With a last twinkling smile, CheerMynx glided off the stage, disappearing from view before Mynx returned once more in her deathrobe and set up a clipboard and a pen on the booth, a kitten minion sitting next to it in wait for the first applicant. OOC: While all of the marked sections will be in story format, I will be placing the main thread in the Conservatory as character interraction in between events is more than welcome. I am also looking for two willing applicants to help me judge the contestants. Any questions, just ask me or the cheerleader

A mix of things for me. Shortly after I met him, Gryphon gave me the name Mynx because of my psychotic behaviour...he picked it from a quote in the first Ghostbusters movie about a demon... Cryptomancer (and another friend of ours called Loup) seconded (thirded?) it because of my general feline behaviour... Then people started being introduced to me in RL as Mynx or just using the name since I could be guaranteed to respond to that as opposed to my real name which can be a tad popular in a crowd. *shrugs* It just...fits... ...Meow

Mary wandered through the corridors, lost in her own thoughts. Ever since the murder, it had seemed as if everyone within the vault had lost their mind. Even though they had locked Ms Taylor up, which should have solved the problem, no one had calmed down at all. Everyone was edgy, jittery, fights were started for no reason, even her own father - who was one of the gentlest men within the vault - was growing short of temper for no apparent reason. Sighing softly, Mary pulled out of her ponderings as she realised her feet had carried her to the vault's main door. She looked at it for a moment, before turning back, shivering as if a goose had walked over her grave. On her way back to her room, Mary bumped into DJ, who's eyes immediately lit up at her sudden appearance. "My darling!" he cried. "How are you this lovely day?" Mary sighed softly as he altered his course to walk with her - she was in no mood to deal with his usual banter. "Hello Derrick," she said softly, eyes cast downwards as she continued back to her room. DJ frowned in confusion, placing a hand on Mary's shoulder to stop her and get her to turn and look at him. "This isn't like you, Mary," he noted, "what's wrong?" "I just don't like the way recent events have turned everyone's mood around here," came the short reply as Mary shook her head and hugged herself. "Yeah, it's nuts," DJ agreed, grinning widely in an attempt to cheer his crush's mood. "But I'll always be here to cheer you up!" Taking advantage of the situation, DJ wrapped his arms around Mary in a hug, saddened at her stiff reception. "You need to cheer up my English Rose, glumness does not suit your pretty face." To his utter joy, DJ felt Mary sigh and relax, accepting the hug properly before stepping back. "Thank you, Derrick. Have a good evening." And just like that, she was gone, heading back to her room and leaving DJ standing in a mini world of bliss, wondering vaguely what he was doing before he had been so wonderfully interrupted.

Mary was shocked. After all this time that the people of Vault 22 had been living together, why suddenly turn to murder? She had always known that it was such acts that caused the destruction of the earth in the first place, hadn't they learned anything? She wanted to throw up, wanted to faint, but she also didn't want to appear weak. ducking her head to hide her clammy complexion, Mary busied herself with the bread dough she was kneeding for Cook, her mind racing at the horrendous act that had just occured.

"Starlight" by Mynx and Cryptomancer
Mynx replied to Sweetcherrie's topic in Critic's Corner Archive
Thanks for the comments Sweet! It's good to know that our story is being enjoyed by someone and always good to know which areas need work. I'll see if I can answer a few things here... I see your point about our different writing styles. The reason I have left my posts as they are is simply because (for now) the story is told from the runemage's point of view. I didn't want to intrude with too many posts about Aysia's background and just wanted to get enough down to show why she hates mages so much and where she learnt most of her skills. I spose she does sound like a bit of a superwoman... When we finish the story I'm going to go back and rework it but for now I think I'll leave it as is. Sorry for the confusion about the murder of Aysia's parents. Cronologically, the runemage hadn't even considered learning the art at that point, but it is that memory that fuels Aysia's hatred of what he undertakes. In her eyes mages only seek power and will kill for it. The runemage seems fine, and is trying to point this out to Aysia, but she remains cautious, expecially when the art acts on its own. When the runemage was attacked and the art defended him, in my mind Aysia's reaction is fitting. She has no qualms about fighting in defence (sometimes not even in attack), and would kill for her survival. It is the fact that instead of using a non magical method of fighting as defence, the runemage "lost control" of his magic. Aysia is very pigheaded in her opinion of Mages, yes, and it is really only the fact that she knew the runemage before he started learning the art and developed a strong friendship with him that prevents her from running. In her mind, there is no excuse for losing control of the art. In her mind, the runemage should have fought as they had practised together, and not used magic. Her closeminded opinion of magecraft is what stops her from seeing his point of view. Yeah, I know it's kinda hard to like Aysia when she refuses to see reason over this, but in a way it's kinda what I have intended for her. Rest assured, eventually (and I use that term loosly at the moment) she'll come around. As for the grammer, you'll have to ask Crypt...I don't think I used those words...(did I?)... Glad you like it though! As I said before, when we finish we'll do a major edit and review of it, but for now we just want to get the story told. -
...After the Slam Quest... Cryptomancer sat, in raven form, on a table in the shadows of the Cabaret Room, sleepy from the after effects of the caffeine rush he had been on during the Slam Quest. He was vaguely aware of Mynx finishing with the task of cleaning up before she picked up a duffel bag and disappeared into a room to change. He let his thoughts drift, not really paying attention, until the tinkling of a bell made the RuneMage aware that Mynx was standing in front of him. "Hey, how's it..." he looked up, his voice trailing away as the weary bird tried to comprehend what he saw. Instead of her standard death robe, Mynx was wearing a black suit with a fitted white shirt, black tie, and what looked to be a gun holster. The raven couldn't help but feel a strong sense of parody occurring, but was unable to identify it. Searching for words, Cryptomancer finally found the right one: "Um...?" Mynx smiled evilly, before a swarm of kitten minions swept over her avian friend. Before he knew what had happened, Cryptomancer found himself duct taped to the chair, not a kitten minion in sight, while Mynx set up a radio on a nearby table. Returning to her friend, Mynx removed the jacket and rolled up her shirt sleeves, the gun holster now clearly visible. Bending down to be at eye level with the raven, Mynx shook her head once to make the earring tinkle, before grinning maliciously as she began to speak... "Listen bird, I'm not gonna lie to you, all right? I don't give a damn why you pierced my ear, but I'm gonna torture you anyway, regardless. Not to get information. It's amusing, to me, to torture a friend. You can say anything you want cause I've heard it all before. All you can do is pray for this to be quick, which it ain't gonna be." Grinning wider, Mynx duct taped the raven's beak shut, before picking up a large pair of silver tweezers and wandering over to the radio. "You ever listen to K-Billy's "Super Sounds of the Seventies" weekend? It's my personal favorite. " Fiddling with the tuner, Mynx finally found the channel she was looking for, just as a song was about to begin. Recognising the tune, Mynx purred happily and began to dance along as Stealer's Wheel began to play 'Stuck in the Middle with You'. Grooving along to the tune, bell chiming perfectly in time, Mynx began twisting around Cryptomancer's chair, the RuneMage only able to watch nervously. Suddenly, Mynx bent closer and, in time with the music, began to randomly pluck feathers from the raven's head. After a few dozen plucks, she stopped, no noticeable difference to the raven's form except for slightly ruffled feathers and a pained look in his eyes. Still singing to the song, Mynx disappeared into a back room, coming back moments later with a gas can. Continuing her dance about the bird, Mynx began spilling the contents of the can - treacle - all over the bird, who was making strangled noises beneath the duct tape gag. Finally stopping as the song ended, Mynx tilted her head at Cryptomancer and grinned. "Since this isn't gas, and since I'm not sadistic, I'm going to end this parody here. Now. Have we learnt our lesson?" Reaching down, Mynx pulled off the gag and waited to see if her sticky friend would reply. [OOC: The parody was from Quentin Tarantino's film Reservoir Dogs. I was just a lot nicer than Mr. Blonde. ]

Mary hummed softly to herself as she helped her mother sew up the tears in the older shirts that were circulated around the vault. Recycling old clothes, recylcing everything had become so much more important than it was before the war. Mary had never seen the surface, but her parents had shown her pictures of it before it was destroyed. It looked pretty. A nice place to live. But the practical mind within told her that this was her life and she may as well live it. It did no good for a lady to complain. It only made her appear more shallow. And so Mary went about her young life as a well behaved young woman, doing as she was told, never complaining, helping out, and always acting proper. Mary felt a certain amount of pride in the knowledge that she pulled her weight around Vault 22, even though she was only 14. Of course she only did the women's work like cooking and cleaning and sewing. She wouldn't ever dream of doing the men's tasks. "Darling, why don't you finish that shirt and then go and help Cook?" Mary's mother spoke softly in an educated British accent. "She'll be wanting help with the breakfast dishes and getting ready for lunch." "Alright, Mother," Mary replied in a similar voice, tying off the cotton she had been threading and placing the shirt on top of the pile of fixed garments. Wiping her hands on her apron, Mary set off to the kitchen, still humming softly to herself. She wondered if she would see that DJ boy at all today. Of course she knew her parents didn't approve, and she could clearly see why - he just wasn't a practical choice for a girl - but it was amusing to see the way he reacted around her. Flattering almost. All thoughts of DJ were banished as Mary arrived into the busy kitchen, immediately getting to work without having to be told what to do, enabling Cook to think about one less chore. Because a lady shouldn't have to be told what to do when it came to her tasks...

Mynx smiled softly as she joined in with the toast, before stepping into the background and beginning the slow but steady process any waitress will go through to clean up after a large event. As she began clearing tables and wiping them down, her owls now asleep on her shoulders, Mynx was brought out of her thoughts by the quiet chiming of her earring. I need to take care of that, she thought to herself. But not yet... Mynx knew exactly how to take care of the noise - a simple silencing spell on the earring wouldn't be able to permanently sustain itself but the earring was so small that it would not take any effort to keep casting such a spell whenever it ran out. Before she did though, there was one thing Mynx wanted to do... The feline grinned to herself as she continued to work, softly humming a tune to herself.
