  2. The fresh morning breeze seems to bring a measure of calm to Garnavon Hall and, while faces are still grim from recalling the events of the day before, people also try to make the best of their somewhat forced stay. The hedge maze now gets the attention of more than one guest, and from time to time people enter or leave it. Even Dr.Watson decides to adventure inside it, not having had the chance before. Katharine and Marcus arrive together, accepting Lord Richard's invitation for lunch. "After all, Mrs. Horton, you have known myself and my sister for a long time. You're the closest friend we have here. And Marcus, we've played together when children... us, and your brother Charles, also." Katharine's smile wavers a bit upon remembering her youngest, so different in spirit from her Marcus. Then a gentle squeeze in her arm brings her back, and she nods. At the stables James is busy taking horses out, preparing to groom them... when he hears hooves approaching in a gallop. As he turns, he sees a frantic mare coming, frothing and plainly scared. "Hey! Whoa!" He tries to stop her, being almost run over - if not for Wil, who lunges to take him out of the mare's way. "It's Lady Clarice's mare! But where's she?" cries the stable boy. In some minutes there are horses being saddled and a group of people leaving, Lord Richard among them. When finally Wetherby gets out of the maze with Dr.Watson, they are urged into the stableyard by Gavin, who paces to and fro at the maze's entrance. "Finally! Dr. Watson, that was an incredibly inadequate time to get lost in the maze! Please, hurry, hurry!" Watson kneels by Lady Clarice, although it wasn't really necessary the presence of a doctor to say the obvious. "She's dead. She must have hit the ground pretty hard... neck's broken. How did this tragedy happen? Does Lord Richard know?" "We found her about a mile from here... the mare must have got scared at something and thrown her off. Lord Richard was taken inside by Mrs. Horton and her son," answers Vahktang. "Lady Galanodel is also with them, I think. He's pretty shaken, as you can imagine." "A most unfortunate accident..." murmurs Norfolk, shaking his head. "Nay. Found this stickin' a' the horsey's haunch..." Wil shows Watson a small dagger-like object. "Pretty deep... probably thrown a' her." Cooper swears loudly. Watson turns the silver letter opener in his hands, absent-mindedly noticing the wolf-shaped handle. "Not an accident... murder," whispers someone. "Scaring the mare... making her rear..." OOC It's Day Phase. No player was killed tonight*. But who could have killed sweet Lady Clarice, Richard's sister? You have about 48 hours from this time stamp to post your accusation. ~~~~~~ No player killed means the Baner was at work. See first post to clarify questions about baning.
  3. By the way... Just to clarify one aspect of this particular game: while you're really voting for a lynching, I'm not going to use it in the story - it doesn't make much sense in this setting to have people lynching others. For story purposes, your chosen "lynching victim" is going to be taken care of in other ways than being killed by the other players just because they're being suspected of. So it was that Dean died because of the smoke/fire in his improvised lab. Hope to have helped ~ Tanny
  4. OOC Just some flavor text while you (and me) wait for the end of night phase IC: Just in time for dinner, Watson returns from the station, where he could still catch the last train to send a letter to Holmes. It was a good thought from Holmes, telling me who to trust to send him last-minute reports... And, just before retiring, he recalls some of his comments. Two or three letters, from different people, and he had sent their names to Holmes, too. If he hadn't been with Holmes in the Sign of the Four case, he could have missed it, and its importance, too. One more mystery in his career of Holmes' chronicler... Watson sighs as he lays down. I wish he arrives soon. Dr. Cuthbert's death has given me odd thoughts. OOC: I'm still missing PMs, by the way... as I won't possibly be able to post for some time, I'm extending night phase until 8 pm EST (about 10 hours from this post). If I don't get the PMs by then, I'll be rolling dice. ~~~~~~~~ Edit: Please, check the Q+A Thread. I tried to clarify some things there
  5. Answering all questions... * Yes, you can assume everybody knows who's innocent/guilty after each lynching/killing post. The fact that they're dead is proof enough Any assassin (= wolf) killed will also come with the proof of guilt * Night phase = no accusation whatsoever. You can gossip and comment but avoid finger-pointing and accusatory speculation. For this last question, think like this: it's night, you should be sleeping. The stricter rules say that it's time for wolves' plotting. I'm allowing RP for the fun of it. If you do need a "If I die before morning," please post that before the lynching scene/beginning of night phase. Your RPing is just great! I'm having loads of fun reading them, specially when it came to American vs British... ~Tanny
  6. Doctor Watson descends the stairs talking to young Richard Garnavon when loud voices make both men run to the main living room, where they find the guests shouting at each other under the eyes of curious servants. "Gentlemen! Gentlemen, if you please!" Watson is rather fast to put himself between Cooper and Wetherby, who are near to blows. "What is happening here? This is a grieving family!" Voices all around rise again. "This obnoxious American is just in the process of adding insult to injury," Lady Elisabeth in heard saying in a cold voice. "After murdering Sir Cecil, he dares insulting the country that welcomed him!" "I didn't murder anyone in Europe yet, Lizzy, and I don't intend to start now although it would be nice to do so among this nice bunch of scared rabbits. And you particularly aren't very welcoming. You're all... " "Mr. Cooper!" Watson stops him with a warning glare, and Cooper closes his mouth, sulking. "I's all that 'merican bastards fault 'e're 'here anyways, I tell ya, there aint no good things comin' outta that 'omeland a 'is in years, and 'e obviously aint the star' o' no new trend," Sir Alfred spats out, shaking in anger. "What is all this talk about locking people in the basement?" Richard looks around, pale but showing in his whole posture to be really the heir to his late father. "We are not judging anyone here. We are civilized people and you are all my guests. I won't have anyone here insulted or accused without proof." Looks sternly at James, noticing him murmuring something. "Least of all by my servants." "What about Mr. Holmes? Have you had any news from him yet?" asks Katharine. Watson shakes his head. "Unfortunately, we got a telegram from him saying that he definitely won't be able to come as soon as he'd like to. But until he does come, I'm in charge of any further investigation, by Lord Richard's leave." He looks around until locating Cuthbert, who is still glaring at his accusers. "Doctor Cuthbert, you're a known chemist." Vincent nods. "Please, I'd like a word with you." "And why, doctor Watson?" inquires Marcus quietly. "This man is the one who could have poisoned our dear Sir Garnavon. He has all the knowledge." "Exactly, Mr. Horton. He has all the knowledge, and that's why we need him." Watson looks repproachfully at Marcus. "He can identify the poison, and maybe help us. As Holmes can't be here, I'll ask your help, dr. Cuthbert." Wil grumbles to no one in particular, "Hah! Askin' 'is help? Thought Dr. Watson woul' be smarter!" In a hastily improvised laboratory in the basement of the manor house, Cuthbert analyses the tiny silver needle and some blood samples taken by Watson. Meanwhile, the other guests spend their time as they can -- talking in corners, wandering in the garden or in the hedge maze, or plainly observing each other. Watson goes over all the details of the crime scene, writing a report to Holmes. Going back to Sir Garnavon's room to review some points, he soon leaves dragging James away by the ear. "Stop being curious, boy. You'll get yourself in trouble. Lord Richard won't take kindly to you snooping into Sir Garnavon's belongings." "B-but... nobody has examined the room... Mr. Holmes would..." Watson turns kind eyes to the stableboy, releasing him. "James, just because you haven't seen anybody doesn't mean nobody has done that. I know enough of Holmes' methods to have examined the room thoroughly before even announcing the death. Now go to the horses. They need you more than Sir Garnavon." Cries and shouts interrupt them. "Fire!" "For God's sake, he went inside!" People gather at the entrance to the basement, from where dark smoke comes out. Wil quickly starts organizing a line with buckets of water, while Lady Galanodel cries, "They are inside! Dr. Cuthbert and Mr. Cooper!" Sir Alfred says with a snarl "Damned bloody foo's all o' 'em are, them 'merican idiots. Always startin' thin's on fire." Watson pushes his way through, being followed by John Norfolk and Shota Vahktang. Covering their faces with handkerchiefs, all three bolt inside. After some tense moments, coughing, they bring out two unconscious men. "What was he doing there, that irritating American?" mutters Lady Elisabeth, "Conspiring with his chemist friend?" "He was the first to notice the smoke. He ran there to get Dr. Cuthbert out," says Gavin weakly. Watson kneels by Cuthbert and Cooper, administering what help he can. The smoke from the basement thins out, leaving still a lingering smell of chemicals. The mutters die when Watson stands up with a closed expression. He turns to the people gathered around him. "Mr. Cooper will be alright in some time. But Dr. Cuthbert... is dead. " OOC Dr. Cuthbert/Dean was an innocent villager. It's Night Phase. You're free to roleplay at Garnavon Hall, but no accusations please. Wolves, Seer, Baner, I need your PMs. Day phase starts in 24 hours or as soon as I get all necessary PMs.

  10. As the several guests arrive along the day, people renew their friendship and make new acquaintances, lending a lively and happy air to the old manor house. Mrs. Horton arrives near the end of the day, worried no end about her sons, only to find Marcus in the stables trying to urge James to ready a cab so he can check the station. As they go back to the house, a swearing is heard and they turn to see Gavin Doyle standing up and facing a phlegmatic Wetherby. Laughing under her breath, Mrs. Horton passes by discreetly. Sir Garnavon and Sir Alfred talk in a corner of the big living room, smiling and observing the younger ones. They notice Mrs. Christie talking to Mr. Vahktang, and to the back of the room Sir Garnavon glimpses Wil. He shakes his head, amused, but pretends not noticing him. Others around them also talk, some being quite interested in trying to pry out of good Dr. Watson some new adventures of his famous friend. After dinner, the guests little by little excuse themselves and go to their rooms for the night. Those who live in the village also leave, and not much later darkness reigns in most of the rooms in Garnavon Hall. ...... Morning comes, bringing a big commotion. At Garnavon Hall, servants are seen hurrying to and fro, and the guests start gathering at the main room with puzzled faces. Some of the people from the village are also present, either because of their friends in the house or because of business due to the wedding. All of them murmur among themselves quite at a loss, when Richard Garnavon joins them with a very pale face. "My friends, I'm sorry. A great tragedy happened this night." He sways, and Wetherby hastily helps him. His face getting paler, Richard looks at his guests and others who already gather in the room. Some of them notice how old he suddenly looks, almost as if he had gotten years older in just one night. "It's... it's... my... " He stops, clearly lost. A kind hand supports him on the other side, and Watson makes him sit down. Then, he turns to the assembled guests. "I'm very sorry to inform that Sir Cecil Garnavon has been found dead early this morning." There's a stunned silence. John Norfolk looks at Watson, his voice harsh. "How? He was well last night, we've talked for some time... He has always been a healthy man..." "Probably his heart," whispers Cuthbert. "Sometimes it happens so suddenly that even close family is taken aback..." Watson looks at Richard very uncomfortably, but the young Lord clearly has no condition to speak. Sighing, he raises his voice. "Please, there are some... doubts... about the cause of death. I regret to ask this of you, but no one is to leave Garnavon Hall or the village until we can determine exactly what happened." The murmurs rise in volume. "What does this mean? You cannot do this!" Mr. Vahktang fixes piercing eyes on Watson. "If there are doubts, call the police! But you don't..." "Ladies, gentlemen, please... I beg of you." Finally regaining composure, Richards stands up. "My father was found dead with a needle in his neck. Apparently, a poisoned needle. I want to avoid all possible scandal, and you can understand this. We have many well-known guests here, and a scandal isn't really what we need. So, Dr. Watson has sent a message asking urgently the presence of his friend Mr. Holmes to help us determining what happened. Meanwhile, I do ask that you remain in Garnavon Hall... my friends from the village, of course you're free to go home. If you care to stay, we have rooms for all... but no one is to leave the village, for we are looking for an assassin. The wedding, obviously, will be... postponed." He drops into the chair, unable to continue. Watson pats his shoulder, then looks at every one present. Whispered conversations grow around the house and the village, news of Sir Garnavon's assassination spreading quickly. Suddenly, suspicion is on everybody's eyes, and speculation runs free. OOC Day phase! You have 48h from this time stamp to post your accusations. Choose wisely, for assassins are lurking but there are also those who will use their skills to help, unknown as they are.
  11. Sir Garnavon walks around the house, greeting his guests and keeping an eye on the people hired to prepare the wedding. "Ah, Dr. Watson... I'm so glad you could come! But, where is Mr. Holmes?" "It's a pleasure being here, Sir Garnavon. Unfortunately my friend is involved in some very delicate business, and couldn't come with me. However, as the wedding is to be celebrated just in three days' time, it's still possible that he comes." "I do hope he can wrap his case and be here for the wedding! If it weren't for him, and you, my Richard wouldn't be here for this happy day!" Sir Garnavon's face brightens as he waves a young woman to him. "I believe you haven't met my dearest daughter, Clarice.... and... excuse me, doctor but I see something that must be corrected." Frowning, he goes to a boy. "Bill, those plants are not supposed to be brought in. They should be kept in the gardens near the west wing. They are very rare and exotic. I don't want them suffering indoors." "Aye, Sir. It'll be done". Pausing to survey the room and his guests, Sir Garnavon gives a satisfied smile. Clarice soon comes, and together they leave to see to other necessary details for the wedding. OOC: Loving your RP Next post will be NPC kill, due up in about 10 hours from this time stamp.
  12. That's the idea. You can even keep commenting on what you "see" the living doing. You cannot however give your opinion or state suspicions or strategies. As a rule, avoid influencing the living in any way, then you're free to be a ghost and haunt Garnavon Hall
  13. Okay, game thread is up. Have fun!!! ~Tanny
  14. IC: The village spreads in a area of moors and downs, not different from what happens in so many regions of the countryside. What makes this one somewhat different is the presence of Garnavon Hall, the home of the prestigious Garnavon family. Sir Cecil Garnavon, the head of the family, is a gentleman in his fifties, a widower of open countenance, highly esteemed by the people of the region. His mansion dominates a low hill, around which the core of the village settles. Now it's a time of great joy for Sir Garnavon and, as such, for the village. Richard Garnavon, Cecil's only son, is marrying Lady Marise Kerrins, and many people were invited for the celebration. Sir Garnavon opens his house to the guests and to his neighbors as well. Most of the villagers who live or work near Garnavon Hall have good relationships with the family, so all were invited to the marriage celebration. To arrive in the village, guests can descend at a wayside train station, where cabs and wagonettes wait to take them to Garnavon Hall. The trip is short, passing through pastures and houses. The moors are barely visible beyond them, and on the other side of the road the downs dominate the landscape. OOC: Feel free to RP until next post, which will be an NPC kill. It should be up in about 36 hours from the time stamp of this post (so, Tuesday morning).

  16. Yeah, I know she, and everybody else, confirmed the votes later. So most of players had two voting posts. As it was really a messy day, I opted to use just one of the wordings of the voting posts. I used the one Yumi gave him chance to speak, and I considered that, as he didn't answer, you did keep your vote. I hope you don't mind too much.
  17. Hmm... yes, I think you're right. I did it last night and I was a bit tired, and today post it without a proper re-read. I'll edit it before I put on the next night phase Thanks, Katz! Edit: Okay, rewrote the last bit. The explanation for the silence will come with the night phase post. Hope it got better... really, RedChef's death was the most unlikely one.
  18. Updating... As we have enough players, the game thread will be up probably on Sunday night. I'll be starting with a no-killing day, so everybody can just present themselves before accusations begin. Sign-up will be open until I send the PMs to the players on Sunday night. Tamaranis, Deg, Matteo, I need your characters' name/status !
  19. Yeah, I thought about it, also. But I considered that starting with Chronicles II would be as confusing for people. Dean does intend to write the story of the first game. So it'll be just an inversion of the first two titles. But yes, in any case Werewolf III will be written as Chronicles III. It would be confusing if we start having different numbers... Thanks, Katz!
  20. Well, a bit off-topic... but I've just started Wolfen Chronicles I: Land of Rising Moon. It's here ~Tanny
  21. Thank you so much, MeThinks!! I do hope the others share your opinion! I was afraid that the first day chapter was sooo long, but I really wanted to present all characters as you all did in the game! I'm introducing some small changes in the dialogues to make it a smoother story, and I hope no one minds it too much. I'm keeping part of Dean's flavor text and fleshing it a bit more to be able to really tell a story. Please, if something seems that doesn't fit, you (players, mod) can always come and give me feedback. I'll be glad for that! ~Tanny
  22. Updated list of players: Katzaniel - Katharine Horton, retired schoolteacher MeThinksUFoolish - Wetherby Danielson, butler Vahktang - Mr. Vahktang, Georgian gentleman on tour of the Continent X-Sabre - George Worthington, tavern owner Degenero Angelus - Sir Alfred Peterson, rich old Knight and nobleman Tamaranis - James Doyle, stableboy Ozymandias - Marcus Horton, a butcher (Katharine's son) Nave - John Norfolk, merchant Lady Celes Crusader - Elisabeth Christie, well-known socialite Matteo - Gavin Doyle, Philosophy major with minor in English Dean - Vincent Cuthbert, doctor of Chemistry Elwen - Lady Emily Galanodel, unconventional teenage noblewoman Eyremon - Edwyn Cooper, American soldier/mercenary just back from Africa Gnarlitch - Wil, jack o' all trades ~~~~~~~~~~ Edited to update name/status
  23. Welcome to The Pen, Gnarlitch We hope you enjoy both the game here and the Forum as a whole! ~Tanny
  24. I should pay back your spanking them, Lady Celes... But I guess I have to thank you for not considering me a threat until the end of the game . Those PMs are nice, thanks for posting MeThinks!
  25. Boy, does that sound guilty. More later, Vahktang Hmmmm... I did work as a bairmaid for Lady Celes, who was the owner of a Tavern... does it set any kind of tendency? ~Tanny
