  1. Hmm... Tanny in RL frowns and looks at her post's time stamp, then back to the thread, and also does some counting on fingers... meh It seems this wolf here ( The current (and probable final) tally is... Brother Adrian/Vahk => 4 votes Brother Phillips/MTUFoolish => 2 votes Brothers Gulzar, Thomas, Farhaven => 1 vote each I'll edit this if it changes, and the scorecard will come at the beginnng of next day phase ~Tanny Shakes her head and mutters about not knowing how to count
  2. Hmm... when Dean first came here to mod WW, a year ago, he did mention (at least for those of us who came from Kenzerco boards) that there had been one Werewolf earlier. And I remember Deg telling me that when we partnered as wolves in Dean's game (WW I). But I guess it wasn't posted anywhere... Anyway, happy anniversary to The Pen! I'm glad I came here, because surely the Pen has changed my life for better *hugs* ~Tanny
  3. I forgot to add... current tally is: Brother Adrian/Vahk => 2 votes Brother Phillips/MTUFoolish => 2 votes Brother Gulzar/Sweetcherry => 1 vote Brother Tomas/Knight => 1 vote Brother Farhaven/Damon => 1 vote You have about 9 hours still left to break the tie... or create more of them
  4. Gryph is right... it's always 48h (day phase)/24 h (night phase) from the moment I post the changing of phases. It does depend on the nearest time I can grab a computer (though unless I have all votes/targets I won't post earlier), coupled with the time I take to actually *write* the post The only reason to extend phases more than a couple of hours are if there are no votes or there's a tie at the end of day phase -- but be warned that I *will* end up the phase after the extension is up, even if I have to roll dice. Also, if any of the specials (wolves/seer/baner) do not send me their PM by the end of night phase, that's forfeited. The only reasons for night phase to be extended are 1) no PMs at all, from anyone; 2) the mod (me) not being able to post for some good reason. I hope I clarified your questions? To the Seer/Baner: if by any reason you know you won't be around for a couple of days and may not be able to send me your PMs when due, just send me a list of your targets; I'll always wait for a confirmation, but in case that does not come, I'll use the said list. At least in this way, you won't lose your night. ~Tanny
  5. Use (without the spaces) [ color=your color] your text [/ color] Or quote any of my colored posts and see the code Edit: Venefyxatu beat me to it The colors you can use are red blue green purple orange yellow gray Also, yellow is hard to see in the tan and blue skins, and purple is very hard for those who use black skin - so you may want to avoid those.
  6. {content edited} Sorry, hit the enter key and all got a bit messy As I was saying, during Night Phase you cannot do anything. During day phase, yes, you could do that. And yes, you could PM Knight to ask him - it *is* RP stuff. However, he might have chosen not to answer, knowing that you would be accusing him...
  7. SCORECARD Those in the Abbey... dragonqueen => Brother Alcott of Lilbourne, copyist. Vahktang => Brother Adrian of the Adriatic, Beekeeper Katzaniel => Francis, a 14-year-old servant Sweetcherrie => Brother Gulzar of Babylon, chief Gardener Kasmandre => Good Bennet, a slow 17-year-old Lady Celes => Brother Mathieu of Carcasonne, herbalist and assistant cook Quincunx => Brother Thibault of Limoges, once a skilled maker and restorer of vellum Akallabeth => Brother Rhys of Cwmhir, Cistercian copyist Knight => Brother Thomas, has taken a vow of silence YanYanGanaffi => Brother Joseph, also under vow of silence Gryphon => Brother Caire, a Dominican scholar MTUFoolish =>Brother Phillips Hue, blacksmith Venefyxatu=> Felipe, "The Eternally Punished", novice Damon Inferel => Bernard Farhaven, young scholar Eyremon => Brother Igottafiln, a monk from the inquisition ... and those who left Brother Adelmo of Otranto, first NPC kill Cryptomancer => Brother Benedicte, left the Abbey in penance Brother Venancio of Salvemec, second NPC kill
  8. Matin arrives silently, the line of monks and sleepy novices going into the church without even the usual whispers. The last events seem to weigh in everyone's minds, and there are several surrepticious looks to check if there's someone missing. The chorus of monks in prayer fills the silence, bringing a measure of peace and confidence to most hearts - until a soft murmur coming from the novices has to be sternly silenced by their master. Thankfully, the following meditation isn't interrupted -- the novices having been led to the chapter house to study the psalms and thus not having chance to check what one of them thought he has noticed: an empty place among the monks. As the servants are still asleep, it takes until Laud for the shouting begin. The Abbot hurries to hush the servants who come in screaming, but he is too late. Starting from the novice's rows and spreading throughout the church, the word chills everyone: death. A monk's death. Another one. Pigs had been slaughtered the day before, and as customary in winter their blood had been put into a big jar and left outside overnight, to start the making of blood puddings. Now, as the monks rush out of the church, they can see that something sticks out of the bloody jar. "The sky was now light, and sthe snow on the ground made the compound even more luminous. Behind the choir, in front of the pens, where the day before thad stood the great jar with the pigs blood, a strange object, almost cruicform, protureded above the edge of the vessel, as if two stakes had been driven into the ground, to be covered with rags for scaring off birds. But they were human legs, the legs of a man thrust head down into the vessel of blood." (The Name of the Rose, U. Eco) Frances, pale as death, brings a bucket of water and some rags, and so the face of the unfortunate monk is cleaned: Brother Venancius of Salvemec, a greek scholar and translator, and known to be a friend of Adelmo's. By the end of breakfast, the rumors had started once more: the brother herbalist was overheard talking to the Abbot, and two words were overheard: 'maybe poison'. And at the church, a light draft makes the open pages of a forgotten Bible flutter... "The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed." (Revelation 8:8-9) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OOC: There was no player kill this night, just poor Brother Venancio, NPC (and second death in Eco's book). It's Day Phase and you have 48 hours from this time-stamp to place your accusations. Although abstentions are a valid choice, I'll just ask to be careful not to have someone lynched because there were more abstentions than valid votes . Check the scorecard at the OOC thread. Good hunting! (late edit for font after board change)
  9. Day phase is over, and cryptomancer has been lynched on the following tally: Brother Benedicte/cryp => 5 votes Brother Rhys/Akallabeth => 1 vote 2 official abstentions It's what we call 'night phase' right now - meaning that you can RP at will but cannot accuse or even speculate! For RPing purposes, you are free to RP the rest of the day, from soon after Prime to the time you retire (or are supposed to retire) after Compline. Cryptomancer, sorry for not giving you chance to RP even a bit with your friends... but, if you find the time, you're welcome to post at any time, RPing whatever happens after you leave the Abbey. You know the rules - no influencing the other players in any way. I'll post a scorecard after the night kill. Good luck, and good hunting!
  10. The news spread soon after Vesper, when the Abbot had chosen to give the news: in about two days there would be two legations coming to the Abbey on secular business. One lead by Michael of Cesena, and the other by Bernard Gui, men who defended the views of two opposite sides lead by the Emperor and the Pope. While the presence of Michael of Cesena was murmured about in tones of respect and sometimes worry for his well being, the name of Bernard Gui brought other whispers as well. Bishop of Galicia, but keeping the activity of Inquisitor, he was feared by heretics and saints alike. "For years Bernard was the scourge of heretics in the Toulouse area, and he has written a Practica officii inquisitionis heretice pravitatis for the use of those who must persecute and destroy Waldensians, Beghards, Fraticelli, and Dolcinians." (The Name of the Rose, U. Eco) * * * A monk waits for the Abbot when Compline is over, hood concealing his face. "You, Brother?" "I've sinned, Father." The Abbot nods, and a half hour later the monk leaves, stumbling and with hands covering his face in shame. From the shadows, the Abbot observes with a sad face and, shaking his head, draws a deep breath and leaves for his own cell. May the Lord be merciful and give you strength in your penance, Brother. My lips are sealed, and I will pray for you. Some of the monks notice the absence of Brother Benedicte from Matin and Laud, and fearful glances are exchanged between the novices. To the relief of more than one Brother, though, he is seen at breakfast, eating alone, and then at Prime. However, as the several monks leave for their alloted duties, some notice that a mule is packed for travel and a servant hands Brother Benedicte his traveling sack. As the monk leaves in absolute silence, ignoring the soft calls of his brethren, the Abbot blesses him and turns to the gathered Brothers. "He leaves in penance, under a vow of silence and led by our Lord's will. We must not speak ill of our Brother, nor speculate on facts that only the Lord understands in full. Let's remember Brother Benedicte's wise words and work here, and pray for his soul." But even the Abbot's stern look can't silence all the voices for long, and the day passes with whispers and murmurs being heard with a frequency that would scandalize even the most flexible of the monks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ OOC: Brother Benedicte/cryptomancer was innocent. His sins, known only by his Confessor and the Lord, have put him under a most severe penance, of which a vow of silence in the mundane world is the only visible sign. It's Night Phase. Wolves/Seer/Baner, send me your targets within 24 hours from this time-stamp. For RPing purposes, you have the whole day ahead of you (from Benedicte's leaving soon after Prime until you retire after Compline). Don't accuse or speculate, please.
  11. *laughs and hugs Sweetcherrie* Non, chére -- it means Player Character and Non-Player Character What I meant was that you could choose one of the other players as your confessor; if you actually tell him (by PM) what the sin was is up to you. Or you can choose someone who's not actually in the game. I should have made myself more clear
  12. How lynching will work There are some possibilities for the 'lynching' - as we can't really have the innocent monks killing each other, can we? So, there is an Inquisitor coming to the Abbey (with another purpose at first); with all the rumors of Devil's work going on, it's not hard to guess that he'll want to investigate and interrogate the suspects. I need a favor (or two) from all players: If you think it's possible for your character, PM me a secret/terrible sin in his past, and if a confessor has ever heard about it; if there's a confessor involved, who he was (can be a PC or NPC) and what the penance was. This won't be revealed unless I need it for a "lynching"; remember also that, in case you choose a PC confessor, no monk will ever break the secrets of Confession. If you have a nice idea for your 'lynching' that doesn't involve you being killed by your brethren (not on purpose, at least), please PM me and I'll work with it. At this moment, we have the followint tally... Brother Benedicte (cryp) => 5 votes Brother Rhys (Akallabeth) => 1 vote 1 official abstention Edit: typo
  13. Well, Brother Joseph, could you please post the accusation in the game thread?
  14. Hey, don't worry - everybody knows that it's never personal... and the first lynching is always guesswork (and most of times consists of people jumping into the bandwagon ) Everybody: Keep the fun, your posts are great !! Cryptomancer, if I were you I'd try to check the game before you get lynched without ever saying a word... maybe I'll just put you under a vow of silence also
  15. Yup By the way, you have about 28 hours (until tomorrow about 6pm EST) to post your accusation... I'm giving you some extra hours of day phase because I won't be able to post when my first deadline's up
  16. That's a really nice graph, Akallabeth! Thanks!
  17. I'd rather have you accusing in an OOC line in the game thread, please... it's easier for me to keep track of them.
  18. The monks and novices leave the Church in silence after the Complines, most of them keeping the close communion with God that the service has brought, some of them immersed in their own thoughts about the day that now ends, and a very few with terrible secrets that no confessor has ever heard. Little by little, as the sun sets, the monks retire to their cells, the novices' chat silences in their house, and the last servants leave the kitchens. The Librarian, Malachi of Hildesheim, and his assistant, Berengar of Arundel, ready the Library for the night and then close the Aedificium from the inside, leaving by passages only known to them. It is a cold night, and the wind and the snow fill the dreams of several monks. "The night of a great snowstorm, in which flakes as sharp as blades fell, almost ike hail, driven by a furious south wind." (The Name of the Rose, U. Eco) As the morning comes, a goatherd rushes into the Chapter House babbling something about a monk's battered, frozen corpse. As the servants hear and murmur, and that murmur spreads quickly among the novices and the monks, the Abbot talks long with the goatherd. Then he sends some servants to the bottom of the cliff below the Aedificium and, with much difficulty, there they recover the body of Adelmo of Otranto. "A monk still young though already famous as a master iluminator, who had been decorating the manuscripts of the library with the most beautiful images [...] Thanks to the battering the body had suffered in its broken fall, determining from which precise sopt it had fallen was not easy." (The Name of the Rose, U. Eco) On inquiry, several of the monks recall having seen Adelmo during complines, but not at Matins. Amid the whispered speculations, Adelmo's body is prepared to be buried in the cemetery of the Abbey. The Abbot, alone in the Church, stares at his hands folded on his lap, lost in thought. The Lord forgive me... how could it be, that one of my own is guilty of murder... And in some days the Inquisitor will come. Will I have to hand some heretic into his hands... someone who until now I have trusted, and would swear before the Lord that was his humble servant? And how will we find this seed of the Devil among us... His eyes fall now over the Bible at his side. "The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down upon the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up." (Revelation 8:6-7) ~~~~~~~~~~~ OOC: The first trumpet has sounded! Adelmo, NPC (and first death in Eco's book), has been found dead. You whisper and murmur, and speculate, in thoughts or in words. But you are also intent on finding someone to blame. The Inquisitor will arrive soon, and maybe he will take the responsibility of rooting out the Devil from the Abbey. It's day phase. You have 48 hours from this post time-stamp to place an accusation. We have at least two wolves, and a possible third after the first three nights (see this post at the OOC thread). Keep your amazing RP!! (late edit for font after board change)
  19. Sign-up closed ... if you missed the game this time, we invite you to the next one! As we are just one player short of the minimum to guarantee three wolves, I'm applying a rule variant that makes possible the existence of an extra wolf by "turning". Turning Rules: the wolves will have a chance of turning any one player except Seer and Baner. turning can be tried during the first three nights; after one "villager" is turned, there's no more attempts. there's a 50% chance of turning; if there's no turning, victim is "killed" normally; Baner and Seer can't be turned; they'll automatically die when attacked, unless Baned; it counts towards the limit of three nights; as a twist, there will be no revealing of the number of wolves alive; a dead wolf will be revealed normally; For RPing purposes, let's consider that the fanatic monks (wolves) have a chance to convince one of their first three victims of the Holiness of their cause. If you have any doubts, please either post here or PM me. I'll be sending the roles and posting the first (NPC) kill in a few hours. Meanwhile, please go on having fun!
  20. No, it isn't You're the 16th player, be welcome Eyremon!! Create a monk and go on to the game thread - you know full well what to do! With one more player, we'll have 3 wolves. If we keep the 16... I'm playing with an idea for a variant that will allow a 3rd wolf depending on luck More detail later, keep tuned!
  21. That's fine, Lady Celes Hmm... I think I'll give you 48 hours of free RP, after all. It's a shame to cut the chance for fun for the first lynchee... Unless the RP tapers out, I'll post the first NPC kill about 48h from the first post of game thread, then (so, Wednesday afternoon). Untill there, no roles assigned, so no guilty parties - enjoy! Sign up will be closed in 24 hours, though...
  22. *offers popcorn to Sweetcherrie, and makes a new batch of popcorn to offer to anyone who wants to watch the excellent RP*
  23. *sits down with popcorn and juice, enjoying so very much the RP so far* You're doing simply *great* I'm sure anyone reading is having as much fun as I am, and I hope it's fun for all players also! The variety of characters, and their personalities, will really make for a very nice game. Kasmandre, I'm looking forward to see what's going to happen to Good Bennet; please, if you get a father for him, PM me also. If you want, you can also post it here so that others can play on that. I've linked all the characterization posts to the names of the characters in the first post of the game thread; I'll keep the link in every scorecard also, so it's easier for everyone to refresh their memory about who's who. *hugs everybody* ~Tanny
  24. Suggestion: He was sent to the Abbey to copy some specific books - that was pretty common at that time. (Akallabeth has a similar background, that he'll be posting soon; his character is copying books on St. Benedictine's life).
