*hugs Azuran* Welcome to the game, Az! I hope you have fun! As an update: we have currently 10 confirmed players .

Another day comes, with a lull in the snowstorm that has raged for three days. Cold seems to cling everywhere, and the smoke coming from chimneys is the only sign of life for quite some time. Little by little, life stirs in the small village - people shoveling out snow from the front of their doors, picking axes to get more firewood, and even a small party of hunters who has decided to try their luck in the forest. Metallic sounds come from the smith, saying that the blacksmith and his apprentice have also started the day, while The Bunny opens the tavern for his first patrons. Granny Jammeez peeks out of her window, observing the street, and nods at the hunters who are starting to gather in front of Gunalo's store. A shriek comes from a house at the end of the street, and a little black-haired girl stomps out, her looks outraged. A few children who were out scurry back into their own houses, not willing to face Annie in a temper.

Well, the game thread is up... ...here. It's free RP phase until Monday evening, when I'll post the NPC kill and send the PMs with the roles. Sign-up is open until then, so if you want to play - hurry! Just post a notice here and go to the game thread to have fun . On a side note: I'll be contacting JDRollins about his availability to play; if there's any change in his status, I'll let you know - I won't assign a baner with less than 9 players, unfortunately. Enjoy!

Welcome to Werewolf XXIV! You live in a village set deep in a valley, surrounded by woods. It's the middle of Winter - the worst one in decades. The mountain pass has been closed by the snow, completely isolating the village. Although there isn't shortage of provisions in the village - for now - people are aware that the animals in the forest are starting to feel the effects of the harsh weather. The story starts near the Winter Solstice - the heart of Winter, and in this part of the world the coldest time of the year. Our players are:Sweetcherrie => Annie, 7-year-old brat Katzaniel => Karen Zahn, the butcher's daughter Patrick Durham => Cedric Fernsworth, a man in his early fifties who's to marry Susan, a 16-year-old girl Jammeez => Granny Jammeez, matchmaker Venefyxatu => Nathaniel Blake Churnstone, owner of a so-believed haunted house LeifTheBunny => Leif the Bunny, retired adventurer, tavern owner JDRollins => Joseph Gunalo. merchantile and general goods store proprietor Mynx => Susan, 16-year-old girl to be married to Cedric; Giles Jordan => Adam, a former hunter/woodsman turned blacksmith Azuran => Tsal, 19-year-old boy who spends most of his time making small sculptures and figurines from wood Panther => John, the town carpenter. He can do almost anything with wood, be it houses, cupboards or coffins and everything in between. NPCs Lillen => a barmaid at Leif's tavern. Important Notes the sign-up thread will be used as OOC thread; PM alliances are not allowed; PMs with RP purposes are alright, but please copy them to me - I'd like to know what's happening for eventual "flavor" posts (mod-written posts) during the game; day phases last 48 hours; night phases, 24 hours. RP is free during night phases, however no accusation/speculation whatsoever; "dead" players: feel free to be a friendly ghost and keep the RP; however, don't influence the living players in any way; eventual inactive players: they won't be out of the game; they can have any role; no stating of the roles OOC or IC; everything is done through RP; Wolves: they're shapechangers, not necessary werewolves (I'll leave it to the wolves to decided which shape they wear). Winter has lead them to attack the village, but their motivations are still unknown. There will be 2 wolves; Seer: a True Dreamer, one who's able to see the truth in dreams; it's a family secret, for they have been persecuted in the past as being abominations; Baner: up to the player to decide on the background and methods... it's someone who in the past has had dealings with werefolk; effects of baning: Baned Result wolves' target no kill wolf if more than one wolf = 50% chance of no kill; if one wolf = no kill anyone but wolves' target normal kill Concerning the lynchings/kills when accusing, please add a last OOC line clarifying your vote; respect the deadlines... during day phase, if there's not enough votes after 48 hours, there *might* be a short extension; however, once that is over, whoever has the most votes will die. If there's a tie, the lynchee will be determined through dice; same holds true for night phase: if the targets of wolf/seer/baner aren't PMd me in the 24-hour-period, they are forfeited (that is, there will be no kill/no seeing/no baning); as the number of players decrease, day phases may be shorter provided all active players have posted; Eventual players who go inactive if you think you won't be able to post in a given period of time, PM me; please, don't post that information (I'm trying to avoid RL-caused 'kills' this time); if a special role (wolf/seer/baner) goes inactive without previous notice, I'll deal with their targets by rolling dice; their posts will be taken care of; in other words - inactives players can still be wolves, seer, or baner. If you have any doubt, don't hesitate in PMing your friendly mod (a.k.a. me ) Game starts next post. Sign-up is open until the first NPC kill, which should occur on Monday and when roles will be PMd. ~~~~ Edit: updating list of players

Dangerous ducks dodged deadly dodos.

No, not here but I know about it. I'll start with a free RP day phase on the weekend, and he's free to enter the game at any point. I'll be PMing him when the game's up.

Turtles tend to trample.
-
Maybe But I sure hope that I don't need to use that possibility We'll see what happens after we get to that point...
-
Nope There are options... at least for the short sentences We'll see what happens if we get to the longer ones... Nobody notices newborn newts. (Edit: typo)
-
Yay!! *hugs Giles* Welcome to the Pen, and back to WW, GL! *grins* I hope you like it here

(Hey Regel... your sentence has 5 words... ) Loving this so far Free fish for firefighters!

This is a current game in another forum... I thought it might be fun to try it here. Each post must bring a complete, meaningful sentence (as possible) made of words that start with the same letter. First post uses letter A, second B, next C, and so on. It starts with a 4-word sentence. Once we run through the alphabet, it starts over with 5-word sentences, then 6-word ones... The guy who started the game said that he has seen it go to 11-word sentences! How far can we go? Starting with 4-word sentences... An antelope ambled afar. [next, another 4-word sentence using the letter B]

Update: I'm waiting for two friends - one of them currently having some trouble to come to these boards... but I should start the free-RP part of the game around the weekend . Sign up will be open until the NPC kill in the first night, though. To answer a question I received: at least right now, I'm not allowing PM alliances in this game - it's a too small group, and PM alliances would favor the villagers too much in my opinion. Feel free to PM each other with background information and for other RP purposes, though - just nothing that characterizes an alliance . If we get 9 or more players, there will be two wolves, a Seer, and a Baner. Otherwise, two wolves and a Seer. Also, I'm going to experiment something: if *after* the game starts a player has to go inactive, I'll manage his character. In this way, inactive players can still be a special role (I'll be rolling a dice for the targets, if that happens). More info later on...

This story is being written in collaboration with Venefyxatu. To avoid interrupting the flow of the story, we'd like to ask that no comments are posted here until it ends. If you feel like giving feedback, either PMs or a thread at the Critic's Corner would be more than welcome . Thanks Venefyxatu & Tanny ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This story starts when Tanny and Stephen are suddenly ripped off a wayward, insane Plane where memories turn into reality. That story can be found at the Conservatory (Lost...). The events that led to the opening of a new portal can be read in that RP thread. Amareyha sat in the narrow patch of bluish grass right in front of the Sam'ey. Her silver hair contrasted with the suntanned skin, and the wind whipping it back revealed her ageless face. Yellow eyes opened, and she stared at the circle of red-gold stones that marked the sacred place of her people. The deep orange sun was about midway up in the strange purplish sky, with the smaller white sun already past its zenith. Amareyha stretched and stood up, revealing a graceful and lithe body not unlike a feline's. The rough white sleeveless tunic barely reached her knees, and she bowed to the Sam'ey muttering a last prayer to the Spirits of Nature. A sudden blast of chill air threw the praying priestess to the ground, and she averted her eyes from the blinding flash with a cry. In the center of the circle of stones, a blurred, roughly oval portal opened, flickering madly and running all frequencies of the spectre before disappearing as suddenly as it had come. Two bodies collapsed to the ground. Stephen was the first to recover enough sense to ask. "Tanny? Tanny, are you alright? What happened?" He grabbed the arms still wrapped around him, freeing himself and turning to his friend. He shook her gently. "I'm... I'm alright... I think..." Tanny blinked, slowly sitting up. "What...?" A keening cry made them turn around, Tanny quickly assessing her surroundings while Stephen frowned slightly. There was something about the voice that was unlike any other voice he'd ever heard. Amareyha stared at the two spirits who had landed in the Sam'ey, crying the alarm of the Sam'ey'aren. Her hands flew upwards, her eyes gleaming in fear but also excitement. Would these be the Spirits of the legend? The Guides that had failed ever and ever to appear when she chanted the prayers to open the Door to the Spirit-World? A few natives rushed in, answering to the implicit summons of the priestess' cry. Two of them looked like guards of some kind, armed with rough spears and towering above Amareyha. She shook her head at them, making a gesture and keeping her eyes fixed on Tanny and Stephen. Stephen heard them rush closer, got to his feet and spun around. He held his quarterstaff in a way that looked rather relaxed, but that would enable him to swing it in the blink of an eye if necessary. With a slight bow, he calmly spoke a greeting, "Greetings to you all." Silence answered, broken just by a soft rustling sound that Stephen correctly associated with the owner of the keening cry. Tanny's mindvoice reached him, quickly describing the creatures and their reaction. ::She... a definite she... imagine a felinoid human... I can almost see a cat, but it's not a cat, not like Mynx or Panther.:: Stephen nodded in response, forming a mental image of the creatures while Tanny struggled with words to describe what she was seeing. Amareyha hummed deep in her throat, so softly that it was difficult even for Stephen to hear it. Deeper sounds came in answer, and the males stepped back and to the side while the priestess took some steps towards the Sam'ey. Stephen smiled, facing the woman as if he actually saw her. "Peace to you, m'lady. We mean no harm and we apologize for our abrupt arrival." Amareyah stopped, tilting her head towards Tanny - still sitting right behind Stephen. A short, querying sound was all she let out while turning back to Stephen. Warily, Tanny tried a small nudge into the earth, feeling for anything familiar in that strange place. The feel of earth came to her, vibrating in a somewhat lower frequency - and she caught herself for a second. Vibrating? Frequency? Since when do I feel threads like this?! ::Are you alright, Wolf-Lady?:: ::Find me some aspirin and I'll be fine... I'm tired of power backlashes. Be careful, Stephen. The... woman... doesn't understand us, I think.:: Stephen's sensitive hearing caught some definite pattern in the song-like sounds coming from the native, with low rumbling answers that indicated to him the position of the two guards. The repetition of the pattern somehow translated into almost-words, and he spoke softly trying to reproduce that pattern. "Sh'ren Amareyha?" Amareyha suddenly relaxed, and bowed deeply towards them. The sounds continued, and Stephen nodded. ::Can you pick the pattern, Tanny? The repetition?:: Still carefully tapping that unfamiliar earth-thread and letting its energy flow into her, she hesitated before repeating the last word-like pattern. "Amareyha Sam'ey'aren." Amareyha gestured to a gathering of smaller creatures not unlike herself - but with golden hair intricately woven in braid-like shapes around their heads. Their purple slitted eyes had a meek look, and they scurried towards Tanny and Stephen at an amazing speed. Surrounding them, they helped Tanny to her feet and made sure to keep both of them in their midst. Stephen automatically offered an arm to Tanny, who was clearlystill dizzy from the opening of the Portal. Amareyha hummed and gestured, and the smaller creatures gently herded them towards a path leading through the woods. "I think Amareyha might be her name, Stephen... she repeated it several times, right?" "Yes. Or it might be her name for us, who knows? And where are we, and how in the name of Fate did we come here?" "Don't ask me..." Tanny frowned, flashing scenes coming to her mind - the Elders of her clan pursuing her, flows of air and fire invading her weavings, a white-cold anger filling her. "I don't know." The whispered conversation continued while they walked through a strange wood, tall trees with purplish-green leaves growing between silvery bushes that sometimes seemed to move on their own. Amareyha warbled in a very low frequency, suited only for the Mehran's ears. Three of the golden-haired creatures darted ahead of her, to carry the news to the Leader - two of the Spirits had come through the Sam'ey, answering to their prayers and worship. The tribe should be ready to receive them in honor. She smiled, then looked at the Spirits still in awe. How could she have been Chosen for such great honor? It seemed only yesterday that she had been accepted as an Acolyte, then the Priestess had died and her spirit appointed Amareyha as the highest of the Sam'ey'aren. The Priestesses of the Sam'ey, responsible for the passage to the Spirit World, the ones who were Chosen to guard the stone ring until the Spirits deigned to look again into their lowly world and take them a step ahead on their journey to Leyhar - the Perfect Land. When the group got to the village, the Mehran had managed to warn the entire tribe that the Spirits had arrived. Everyone had gathered, and as soon as the group got into sight the excited murmurs faded into silence. The silence was almost eerie as Tanny and Stephen were guided through the crowd to the center of the village. Once there, they were invited to sit on the grass, with Amareyha facing them and the Sam'ey'aren sitting in a circle around them. The rest of the tribe, not wanting to miss anything, gathered round as well, some sitting, others standing, all of them watching Amareyha and the Spirits. Amareyha looked at Tanny and Stephen for a few moments, realizing that she'd have to start the welcoming ritual so she wouldn't offend the Spirits. Slowly, stately, she stood up and raised her arms and face to the sky. When she opened her mouth, neither Tanny nor Stephen could hear anything, but apparently the crowd could because they all bowed down. The Sam'ey'aren, sitting cross-legged in a circle around the Spirits and their priestess, had closed their eyes and were moving to a certain rhythm. Suddenly Stephen thought he could hear something, a very high-pitched sound, and not a moment later so did Tanny. The plaintive sound slowly lowered in pitch, and Tanny could see that the Sam'ey'aren were moving to its rhythm. Amareyha gradually lowered her voice, welcoming the Spirits by going from the highest to the lowest sound she could produce, constantly wondering why the Spirits weren't standing. Was she doing it wrong? It was too late now, anyway, as stopping the ritual now would be a much greater offense. The high-pitched tone frayed Tanny's nerves, her ears too sensitive to them, and while she fought to keep herself still, Stephen extended his senses into the earth. He broke contact again almost immediately, something Tanny noticed. :: Stephen? What's wrong? :: :: This world is much more alive than any I've felt before. :: I've noticed it too ... the energy strands here are vibrating. :: The sound had stopped, but the Sam'ey'aren kept moving a little longer. When they sat still again, Amareyha lowered her arms and bowed to the Spirits. Tanny quickly prodded Stephen, got up, and returned the bow, all in one smooth movement. :: She's bowing ... I think we'd better return it. :: At that, Stephen quickly got up as well, and bowed. When the two "Spirits" straightened, again, they were surprised to find one of the Sam'ey'aren standing next to Amareyha with a pitcher of water. The priestess took it, took a sip and then offered it to Tanny. She took a small sip as well and told Stephen to do the same as she passed on the pitcher. When Stephen had sipped the water, the Sam'ey'aren took the pitcher again, took a sip herself and passed it on to the next one. When the last one swallowed the last drop, they all sat down again with Tanny and Stephen following their example. Amareyha then put a hand on her chest. "Amareyha Sh'ren Illonia." :: So it's her name. :: As Amareyha looked expectantly at the Spirits, Tanny put a hand on her own chest. After hesitating for a moment, her voice came merely above a whisper. "Tanryell of Leyanne." Stephen started raising his eyebrows when he heard Tanny's full name, but then nodded in a barely visible way and placed a hand on his chest. "Stephen von Hascodem de Tinservale." Amareyha smiled, bowing deeply and missing both Tanny and Stephen's surprised expressions. von Hascodem de Tinservale? That's a noble's name! And how in Dyrenne's name did I give my real name? Tanryell of Leyanne? And where in the name of Fate did my full name come from all of a sudden? I was through with that!

The room looks relaxing, illuminated by a soft, soothing glow coming from skillfully hidden lamps. The warmth spreads from the fireplace in the corner, sweeping away the chill of Winter. Tanny lets go of earth threads, after having woven them into a net that would hold easily the warmth inside the room, without allowing it to get too stuffy for comfort. A cake sits on the center table, with drinks and food on several side tables. She chuckles a bit, having earlier in the day made a catnip cake and left it elsewhere for her feline friend. Going to a banner above the fireplace, she adds a last line and her signature in a flowing hand. Happy Birthday, Panther. *hugs* Thank you for everything. In a package, waiting for its new owner, a dark-purple velvety robe waits. Flowing runes grace the hem, embroidered by a careful hand in deep red and gold threads. The hood is ample, enough to hide the face if the wearer so wishes but made in a way to not hinder sight. The sleeves can be strapped high to allow free movement or let loose to hide the hands. For a knowing eye, it glimmers with the energy woven in it - earth for steadiness and strength, water for comfort and protection. As an added bonus, the same water threads woven in the robe allow it to remain dry even under the heaviest of rains.

Well, as I commented on the Q+A thread, I'll be trying to run a Werewolf Game while Gryphon's on hold... The setting is the basic one: an isolated village in Winter, having trouble with werebeasts. If you're interested, please sign up here, with an idea for your character. For new players, the rules can be found stickied at the top of this forum, and any questions can be posted here or PMd to me. The format will be the traditional for the Pen: 48h for day phases, 24h for night ones. One last note: I'll be running this game if I get at least 7 people (that will probably give one werewolf and the Seer), preferably 9 to guarantee two werewolves and the Seer. I'll think about the Baner later on. I'll leave the sign up open for at least a week... hope to see the old players back, and new ones too! ~Tanny

Hmm... I like that simpler, 1-line version of the badge, Katz...

I remember I had trouble with my tables, because they were suddenly turned into HTML-coded ones during the upgrade... and when I tried to edit them, the board refused to acknowledge them completely - Yui had to reconvert them for me. Also, there was a change in the original code, but I honestly don't remember what it was - it was something small, but that affected the title cells, I think. As I don't remember what your description was like, rev... what's exactly the trouble with your description? If you go to my list of works, you can quote any of my tables to see the code I used... or PM me, I'll try to help ~Tanny

Tanny blinked in surprise, looking at Azuran - who smiled and nodded. Grinning, she then picked the tiny lantern and lit it in the same way her friend had done. "Thank you, Azuran. It's a wonderful gift." Smiling, she extinguished the light and put it in one of her own pockets. "Curio shop, heh? You know... a time ago, a merchant came bringing several magic trinkets from the East... he has a tent around here, if you want I can show it to you. But I warn you... beware of his wares." Tanny chuckles to herself, remembering the Tiara she had got from Achib. ~~~~ OOC: Azuran, take a look at that thread. I talked to Vene, it's alright if you want to interact with Achib

::Stephen! Can you follow this?:: Saying this, Tanny throws a mental rope made of earth threads in the direction she can dimly sense Stephen's voice is stronger. Stephen concentrates, deepening is contact with earth. Amid the faintly weird threads, he easily recognizes Tanny's imprint and, after taking some time to let it settle on his awareness, starts following it in a quick stride, keeping everything else out of his mind. Or trying to, as he could sense some memories lurking just outside his conscious thought. All of a sudden, he gasps and almost stumbles, sending an angry, shaken thought to his friend. ::What happened? The thread nearly broke!:: ::Mynx cried out, then someone else found us. They're fighting!:: Stephen frowns, puzzled, once again following the meandering thread. They who? Fighting what? This time, though, there's no answer to his inquiries besides a mixed feeling of annoyance, wonder, and anger drifting back from the guide-thread. Tanny stares blandly at Tzimfemme, letting feelings of annoyance and anger fill her and using them as a barrier to ward off memories. A corner of her mind registers Mynx leaving through a rip in the fabric of the plane, followed by Anna. I'm tired of this. I'm tired of having my memories play with me. I am Tanryell of Leyanne, I am Myrienne's blood, I have been exiled. But I am not going to let something out there to play on my memories to use me, to turn me into something I am not! She lets the thoughts repeat themselves, feeding the cold anger until in her mind she can shape it as a tall wall around herself. ::Wolf-Lady!:: The call is distant, echoing through the coldness she has created around herself. Grasping firmly the guide-thread, she starts weaving other earth threads around it, thickening the rope and, at the same time, letting them envelope her. ::Stephen. Come!:: Anger usually flares. But for Tanny, it froze all around her and set her apart from the world. She stood in that icy plain, one image set firmly in her mind while pulling the energy of the threads all into herself. She feels the strain - in a detached way, not affecting her. She feels the cold air threads trying to merge into her weaving. She feels water condensing around earth. The air, she ignores. The water, she weaves into her net. And opens herself to the energy pulsing through her. Stephen again misses a step, feeling suddenly as if plunged into an icy river. Coldness freezes him for fractions of a second, but before he can realize he isn't following the thread, but being pulled by it - with a loud crackling sound he finds himself in a place of sharp, biting cold wind. And another fraction of second later, he finds himself stumbling into Tanny. ::Stephen... I can't hold this for too much longer... help me...:: Arms wrap around him to give him support, and he feels the pulll of earth threads. And instinctively, not really conscious how, he adds to the energy pulsing in Tanny. The onlookers just glimpse Stephen appearing suddenly and stumbling into Tanny, and they both vanishing a couple seconds later. A blast of chill air is all they feel.

The Door opens with nary a creak to give passage to a black wolf, who pads silently and looks at the young sage with a smile. Azuran does not notice her, placing his application on Wyvern's desk with a pensive look and shifting his eyes to the small book he still holds in his hand. He starts as the smiling wolf nudges him gently with her nose, and turns to face a delighted grin. In his surprise he lets go of his application, which falls to the floor. Azuran observes curiously as the wolf rests a paw on the application, turning it so she can read. A subtle sense of familiarity drifts to him, and he studies the wolf more closely. There's nothing in her that triggers a defensive reaction in him, and he can almost feel nature's power coming from her - the feeling he had when reading that last entry in the journal. The wolf shimmers back into the form of a black-haired woman, grey eyes twinkling in pleasure as she stands up with his application on her hand. "I'm so happy seeing you finally applying, Azuran! This is beautiful, it really is." The sage blinks, quite surprised. "Tanny! No wonder I felt as if I should know the wolf... but... I didn't know... ?" "You never saw me wearing my second shape. " She smiles, placing the application back on Wyvern's desk. "It has been quite a time, and far from here, since we last met. I wove threads of water and earth, but if you have seen my wolf-form, I doubt you realized it was me." The statement is simple, and Azuran also smiles. "It may have been so, Tanny. So, do you live here also?" "A cottage on the forest, but I lurk here a lot. If you need some directions around, you're welcome to ask and I'll show you around. There are lots of knowledge, of wisdom, spread throughtout the Keep. I'm sure you will like it here. She hugs him warmly. "I know you aren't completely new around here, but welcome to the Pen! And I'll make you company while the Scheming Elder of Initiates is busy with... mmmm... his search for a certain kind of knowledge. He might not take long, or he might take some days. You'll find it interesting to... meet him... " The mischief in her voice makes Azuran raise an eyebrow, as she invites him to sit down and keeps an amiable conversation. Power Wind that comes changing the water making it grow sending it back. Waves of fury crashing on the cliff battering old wounds chipping away the scars of past times. Wind that comes pushing the water giving it strength making it crest. Waves of passion climbing the rock unchecked, unstoppable sprinkling with life hardened stone. OOC: *hugs* Happy to see you applying, Az . Edit: typos
