  1. Hrm... excuse me, I've just remembered that I'm insanely busy... *scurries away very quickly*
  2. lol... good point... But in this case, who wins the game?
  3. Huhhh.... yeah... sure... *wonders what she has forgotten...* That has to be the most original Abstention I've read... hehe We have 9 stated votes, so I'll end Day Phase in about 12-13 hours. I'll be also waiting for the posts of those who told me they're working on it.
  4. Quick note/reminder: Day Phase ends in about 25 hours from now. However, due to the large number of players, if I don't get a minimum of 9 votes or stated abstentions, I'll give an extension of 12 hours - at the end of which I'll get whoever has more votes lynched Second note: if you're posting very near or at the dealine, please state that either in this thread or in a placeholder at the main thread - I'll wait a few minutes if it needs be
  5. Add an OOC line in your post, please - it's easier for me to check/recheck using the game thread, since there are other info/comments in this thread and a vote/change of vote might slip by while digging through posts. And you can just think of the accusation - even more so because, at least in the beginning, it would be quite out of character to go around pointing fingers.
  6. Sorry for the delay, as Vene kindly posted for me... for some reason the Pen site refused to load earlier today. It's now Day Phase, and you have 48 hours (more like 50) to vote one of you out. I won't be actually killing this person - they'll be free to keep RPing a stranded one or write their own death. Remember please that I won't be revealing the roles of the dead The setting is the way up Caradhras, based on the events described midway through the chapter The Fellowship of the Ring, Book II - The Ring Goes South. Please, do not go through the Pass, nor go beyond the snowstorm that actually kept the Fellowship from the Pass (for those who know what I'm talking about ) - those are the events that will start the Night Phase Good hunting!
  7. "Many others of Elrond's household stood in the shadows and watched them go, bidding them farewell with soft voices. There was no laughter, and no song or music. At last they turned away and faded silently into the dusk. They crossed the bridge and wound slowly up the long steep paths that led out of the cloven vale of Rivendell; and they came at length to the high moor where the wind hissed through the heather. Then with one glance at the Last Homely House twinkling below them they strode away far into the night. At the Ford of Bruinen they left the Road and turning southwards went on by narrow paths among the folded lands. Their purpose was to hold this course west of the Mountains for many miles and days. The country was much rougher and more barren than in the green vale of the Great River in Wilderland on the other side of the range, and their going would be slow; but they hoped in this way to escape the notice of unfriendly eyes. The spies of Sauron had hitherto seldom been seen in this empty country, and the paths were little known except to the people of Rivendell."J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Fellowship of the Ring" The company traveled fast, and silently. The night was their friend, and the Moon lit their steps even though the terrain was rough and sometimes unyielding. Their sleeping hours were spent in hiding, during the day - something that made some sigh and wish for the comfort they'd had in Rivendell. Their guide was Falmar, one of the Elf lords of Elrond's household. Well-known by everybody from the Company who had been in Rivendell for more than six months, he had the elven wisdom in his light-grey eyes and the ranger's skill in himself. He had travelled far and large. A morning about two weeks into the journey south, with the Misty Mountains looking closer ahead of them, all the company was fast asleep but for the two watchers. Falmar pointed at the dark patch in the sky, moving northwards. Irvin, who happened to be right behind him, asked what they were. "It doesn't look like a cloud..." he whispered, feeling something weird. "Lie flat and still!" hissed the Elf lord, pulling him down. A whole flock of birds broke away from the main host, and came flying low, straight towards the ridge they were on. They looked like crows of a large size, and passed overheard in so dense a crowd that their shadow followed them darkly over the ground below. Falmar waited until they were gone and the sky was clear and desert again before hastily waking up some of the Company. "Regiments of black crows are flying over all the land between the Mountains and the Greyflood", he told Garnorn and Megwyn. "They have passed over Hollin. They aren't native here, they are crebain out of Fangorn and Dunland. I think they are spying out the land." Jagkatha nodded. "I think we should move out again. Hollin is being watched." "If the Enemy is on the watch, then we must be even more careful." Linador eyed the low fire. "Luckily our fire made little smoke and has burned low. I don't think it should be lit up again." So it was that in that afternoon, to the dismay of the Hobbits and Stoomp, they received the news that they were moving again as soon as the sun set and there was to be no fire. Not even for meals, as Filk soon discovered. All that day they remained in hiding. The dark birds passed over now and again, but at sunset they disappeared southwards. Then the Company set out, and turning now half east they moved toward Caradhas, which still far away glowered red in the setting sun. For the mountain signaled their way, through the Pass of Caradhras into the Dimrill Dale, and then onwards towards their goal. For two more nights they marched on, climbing steadily but ever more slowly as their path wound up into the hills and the mountains towered nearer. And small mishaps started to crop - the pack mule with a shoe lost, a stumbling dwarf - who would almost swear there was nothing to stumble on, or a tricky patch of rocks causing more than one to slip and threatening bones and muscles. Baelestinah's companions showed signs of unrest, and the elf had trouble calming then down most of times. Wolf Brother would growl at the shadows, while Ferret Brother skittered around nervously. On the third morning, Caradhras rose before them, a mighty peak, tipped with snow like silver, but with sheer naked sides, dull red as if stained with blood. And blood the Company also found among themselves, finding the pack mule slaughtered where they had tethered her. Linador looked at the poor beast in shock, while Stoomp cried and hugged Teddy. Turin and Seothen examined the little beast, and shared their opinion. "Killed - very skillfully to not let her scream and wake us. No accident, no wild animal." Falmar looked around, fire in his eyes for a moment. Then he shook his head. "The Enemy is tracking us. We don't have time to waste. If we are to try the Pass, we have to go now. Otherwise, our only other path goes through dark and unforgiving ways... " In spite of himself, Falmar shuddered. As they prepared to start the slow climbing, a silent question remained - how could the pack mule have been killed, when they always had set a watch of two of them? Falmar looked troubled, and in his mind he was dismayed. Someone among us... the lure of the One Ring is strong. I can only hope that Elrond's fears don't come true, and we are not lost to Its calling... " 'From signs that we have seen lately, I fear that the [Pass of Caradhras] may be watched; and also I have doubts of the weather that is coming up behind. Snow may come. We must go with all the speed that we can. Even so it will take us more than two marches before we reach the top of the pass. Dark will come early this evening.' 'I was born under the shadow of the White Mountains and know something of journeys in the high places. We shall meet bitter cold, if no worse, before we come down on the other side. It will not help us to keep so secret that we are frozen to death. Whe we leave here, where ther are still a few trees and bushes, each of us should carry a faggot of wood, as large as he can bear.' The twisting and climbing road had in many places almost disappeared, and was blocked with many fallen stones. The night grew deadly dark under great clouds. A bitter wind swirled among the rocks. By midnight they had climbed to the knees of the great mountains. The narrow path now wound under a sheer wall of cliffs to the left, above which the grim flanks of Caradhras towered up invisible in the glom; on the right was a gulf of darkness where the land fell suddenly into a deep ravine." J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Fellowship of the Ring" ~~~~~~~ OOC: So the adventure begins. A poor beast was killed, a clear warning that the Company might harbor trouble among, and within, themselves. While climbing towards the Pass of Caradhras, there is the thought - who might have fallen into the Shadows? It's now Day Phase. You have 48 hours (until roughly Wednesday, 10pm EST) to try to find one of the Fallen (wolves). Good luck! Check the OOC thread for extra info. Edit: typos
  8. I have a request to all... I see where all the teasing at Jagk comes from, and I'm the first to admit that I liked the way the "comic relief" worked so far. I also think that the way it has been dealt so far is alright - but please, let's tone down a bit that "use" of Mynx's character until we know if she herself wants Jagk to be played like that. Because while Sweetcherrie made it clear from Stoomp's description and her own posts that her character is comic - so far, Mynx rendition of Jagk is that of a prickly, vain Elf maiden... not near the way Stoomp is. I'll be posting the first kill in 12h at the most - sorry, too busy/tired to work on a post right now. You'll be then out of Rivendell and into the wilderness, and by then I think we'll get a better hang of how the no-warrior types (hobbits, Stoomp, some of the elves) will behave. After all, even "that fool of a Took" had his laughing and dramatic - and heroic! - moments Thank you! ~Tanny
  9. *rolls on the floor with laughter* Goodness... *that* I didn't expect... Now, what will Jagk do...
  10. lol I hope that doesn't mean you'll hold off posting until last day to avoid being dead
  11. Sign up is closed I'm posting an "end" for the current free-RP phase. However, as I cannot make a kill happen in Rivendell, and some of you might have things to say in the Council of Elrond - and also because it is the weekend - this next period of about 36 hours is to be considered similar to Night Phase. There will be *no* actual Seeing/Baning (since the kill will be an NPC one), but the roles are being PMd to you So, summarizing... you're now at the end of the Council of Elrond, and you may talk your mind and tell your stories as you see fit, and start preparing to leave Rivendell. The setting is that of the beginning of chapter 3, 'The Ring goes South', in 'The Fellowship of the Ring - Book II'. roles have been sent, however as there was no kill yet, this isn't a Day Phase - keep the free RP I'll post the kill in roughly 36 hours (Monday late afternoon, EST) I hope this isn't too confusing... Edit: Roles have been sent - to everybody. If you haven't received anything, PM me Edit2: the roles won't be revealed after each lynching/kill... the Ringbearer is secret, the destiny of the OR also... and the servants of the Shadow are guily. The game ends as per normal rules - all wolves caught (villagers win), or number of surviving wolves=number of surviving villagers (wolves win). It's not important where the OR is - since it's obvious that the winning party gets it automatically.
  12. As the feast was moved into the Hall of Fire, and after tales from both elves and men were told by those who had the will and the skill, a clear voice rose in song. And listening to the soft voices of the elves starting to sing, most of the non-elven people left quietly for a well-deserved rest before the Council that Elrond had called for next morning. "Suddenly as they were talking a single clear bell rang out. 'That's the warning bell for the Council of Elrond,' cried Gandalf. 'Come along now!' (...) The light of the clear autumn morning was now glowing in the valley. The noise of bubbling waters came up from the foaming river-bed. Birds were singing, and a wholesome peace lay on the land. To [him] his dangerous flight, and the rumours of the darkness growing in the world outside, already seemed only the memories of a troubled dream; but the faces that were turned to meet them as they entered were grave." J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Fellowship of the Ring". Elrond nodded as the last of the guests who had been summoned for the Council arrived, joining the silent ring already seated about him. Gandalf was there, and the Elf Lords, and one which was clad in the attire of the Rangers of the North. All guests, representatives of the free people of Middle-Earth, were then officially presented, and the Council began. Much of what was discussed is known from other tales, and much was kept forever secret. But on that morning, news were brough by several of the guests - some already known, some until then not known in full detail. All listened when Elrond in clear voice told of Sauron and of the Rings of Power, and their forging in the Second Age of the world long ago. Of NĂșmenor, and the coming of Elendil the Tall, and the defeat of Sauron at the Battle of Dagorlad, on the slopes of Orodruin. And then the tale of the One Ring was told in full, of how Isildur was lost to its treachery and how it disappeared from the face of the world until being found by the most unlikely of creatures. Of how it had found a new bearer, and brought to Rivendell on Gandalf's counsel. The morning went on, and the debate started. On the destiny of the Ring, there were many thoughts and many opinions, but little do be done that would not endanger Middle Earth. And at length, Elrond again spoke, and his counsel was heard. "Now at this last we must take a hard road, a road unforeseen. There lies our hope, if hope it be. To walk into peril - to Mordor. We must send the Ring to the Fire." At his words, heavy silence fell. The noon bell rang, and still there was hardly a murmur, some of the present wearing the distant look of deep thought. "The Ring must go South, and there must be a Ringbearer." Elrond's voice was now soft. "Among those who knew of the Ring before this tale has been told here, there have been volunteers. And after this Council, I will again talk to you, who vowed to undertake whatever is needed to defeat the Shadows, and a Ringbearer will be chosen. But the Ring and the Ringbearer should not go completely alone, and companions also will be chosen to go with them. The number must be few, since there must be speed and secrecy. However, apart from those who will make the Company of the Ring, there will be a few others that will be going at least part of the way with you - for I have errands for some, and others have errands of their own. Who has volunteered, and who is going on errands, won't be named; nor will the Ringbearer be disclosed, for it will be safer in this way." Then there were whispers, and murmurings, and again discussion. But no other way was found, and Elrond's words were accepted as the wisest ones. "So the Company of the Ring shall be Nine. And the Nine Walkers shall be set against the Nine Riders that are evil. On the Ringbearer only is any charge laid: neither to cast away the Ring, nor to deliver it to any servant of the Enemy nor indeed to let any handle it, save members of the Company and the Council and those companions that set out with you, and only then in gravest need. The others will go with him as free companions, to help him on his way. You may tarry, or come back, or turn aside into other paths, as chance allows. The further you go, the less easy will it be to withdraw; yet no oath or bond is laid on you to go further than you will. For you do not yet know the strength of your hearts, and you cannot foresee what each may meet upon the road." J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Fellowship of the Ring". ~~~~~~~ OOC: Please see instructions at the OOC thread. Roles have been sent, but the free-RP continues for about 36 hours, until I post the kill.
  13. Hehe... you'll do fine, Katz I *really* like the idea of you playing an Ent!! Now, for refs... try... The Two Towers, Book I, chapter 4 - Treebeard Remember also that the Hobbits... I'll edit in something else, in a few minutes Edit: hehe... thank you Patrick
  14. In addition to. It balances out with the 66% chance of the Ringbearer getting either seeing/baning when villagers have the OR. Mm... "just" 3/4 of Treebeards' height, heh?.... interesting... small tree... just a sapling, riiiight...
  15. I'm waiting for a couple posters who asked me for a little bit more time, but I should be able to send the roles and go into "game mode" soon. Meanwhile... My changing-phase-post will be dealing with the Council of Elrond. So, if you want to have your character say something specific in my post, please PM it to me. By the end of my post the Fellowship will be formed and you'll be in the transition from Rivendell to the trip South.
  16. Just to drop a note - I'm extending the free RP phase for at least the next 24 hours, roughly. That's because 1- I'm loving the RP so far; 2- there are players who haven't been able to post yet (and I've received a couple requests for a possible extension); and 3- I've been quite busy and I'm too tired to think of a post tonight So, enjoy the RP! Sign up is still possible, by the way...
  17. Katz, feel free to play an Entwife I see no problem at all - I think we could even have Treebeard being really surprised to see you in Fangorn (supposing you get there). So, consider that... and just post here again if you really want to play a male Ent. And post when you can - I may extend this first free RP phase for a bit, since we have lots of players and it's too near the weekend. Anyway, I'll give enough time so that most of you can post at least once during this phase, to start setting the mood and interactions! So far, I love the way it's developing...
  18. Swirling around, circle of green leaves following frantic spoon but later they rest, to be mean and tell the future next afternoon! ** topic: river **
  19. Whenever it rings news it brings but - what a bother! why always during shower? ** topic: horse(s) **
  20. staring at the lake, looking for clues I see the shades of so many hues the colors that change, from bluish to green rippling waters of mysteries unseen ** topic: rain **
  21. Game thread is up - sorry for the delay... I'm having trouble managing several commitments, so I'll ask for your patience in the next few days if I can't post as strictly within the deadlines as I usually do. Sign up is open until first "kill" (when I'll be sending the roles) - which will happen right before the Council of Elrond. For now, you have roughly 48 hours to enjoy yourselves at Rivendell, at the party given the night before the Council. The first post of the game thread gives all instructions for the game, since it's easier to locate than posts spread throughout the OOC thread. If you have any questions, please post here or PM me. If necessary, I'll edit any clarifications in the game intro post. Late edit: Just adding a map... as I've done later for each setting Rivendell, from The Atlas of Tolkien's Middle Earth
  22. [He] was now safe in the Last Homely House east of the Sea. That house was, as Bilbo had long ago reported, 'a perfect house, whether you like food or sleep or story-telling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all'. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness. (...) The hall of Elrond's house was filled with folk: Elves for the most part, though there were a few guests of other sorts. Elrond, as was his custom, sat in a great chair at the end of the long table upon the dais; and next to him on the one side sat Glorfindel, on the other side sat Gandalf. (...) In the middle of the table, against the woven cloths upon the wall, there was a chair under a canopy, and there sat a lady fair to look upon (...). So it was that [he] saw her whom few mortals had yet seen: Arwen, daughter of Elrond. (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring) The face of Elrond, ageless, fell upon his people and his guests. His grey eyes had in them a light like the light of stars, and the circlet of silver set upon his dark hair glinted in the soft light. What thoughts he had as he took in the newly-arrived, or those who had been there longer, were not disclosed even to Gandalf at this side. Elrond smiled and let the feast begin, and the evening went on smoothly in Rivendell. At length, they would all go down the hall, across passages and doors, into the Hall of Fire - and songs would be sung and tales be told, and the people of Middle Earth gathered in Rivendell would have once more the chance to share the warmth of Elrond's fire. But for now, food was being served and companions sat and talked, asking for news and making new acquaintances, occasionally sharing what events had brought them to Rivendell. ~~~~ OOC: free RP for roughly 48 hours or until eveybody has had a chance to post. The setting is the party described in the chapter Many Meetings, in The Fellowship of the Ring. Sign up is still open - see OOC thread.
  23. Welcome to Werewolf XXVII! These are dark times in Middle Earth, with the Shadow in the East growing in power and reaching out towards the One Ring. At Rivendell, Elrond gathers a group of people who will help the Ringbearer in his quest for the Cracks of Doom to unmake the One Ring and thus defeat Sauron. The story starts at a party in Rivendell the night before the Council of Elrond. Our players are: Gryphon => Mattias, Elf (male) Finnius => Filkiormous Magnanimous Berrison, hobbit from the Shire Mynx => Jagkatha, Elf (female) Akallabeth => Turin of Dol Amroth, human, DĂșnadan Giles => Baelestimah, Elf of Rivendel (male), servant of Arwen Patrick => Seothen, son of Seoras, Rohirrim Venefyxatu => Neriam Therzyn, son of Elwen Therzyn, human Panther =>Garnorn, human Ranger (male) Vahktang => Yeager Tickle-Bottom, hunter, hobbit from the Shire Savage Dragon => Raus Tanathos, human (male) Ayshela => Linador, horse-master elf (male) from Rivendell Gyrfalcon => Frerin, dwarf from the Kingdom under the Mountain (male) Sinsor => Irvin Bartholomew Muskfoot, Hobbit of The Shire Sweetcherrie => Stoomp, dwarf (male) Katzaniel => Rootmaker, ent Phoenix => Megwyn, human, Ranger (female) Ozymandias => Jin, son of Jalen, dwarf Important Notes the sign-up thread will be used as OOC thread; PM alliances are not allowed; PMs with RP purposes are alright, but please copy them to me - I'd like to know what's happening for eventual "flavor" posts (mod-written posts) during the game; day phases last 48 hours; night phases, 24 hours. RP is free during night phases, however no accusation/speculation whatsoever; "dead" players: feel free to be a friendly ghost and keep the RP; however, don't influence the living players in any way; eventual inactive players: they won't be out of the game; they can have any role; no stating of the roles OOC or IC; everything is done through RP; Wolves: they want the One Ring for their own purposes - either to take it to Sauron or Saruman, or to use it themselves - who knows? There will be 3 wolves. Seer and Baner: up to the players to decide on the background and methods... effects of baning: Baned Result wolves' target no kill wolf if more than one wolf = normal kill; if one wolf = no kill anyone but wolves' target normal kill The Ringbearer/The One Ring This is an extra role for this game. The Ringbearer can choose whether to use the One Ring each night phase. If he chooses to use it, one of three things happen: The Ringbearer gets a random Seeing (no choice of target) The Ringbearer does a random Baning (no choice of target) The wolves sense the One Ring and discover the Ringbearer's identity If the Ringbearer is lynched, a new random Ringbearer will be chosen among the villagers. If the Ringbearer is killed by wolves, the One Ring goes to the wolves. If the wolves choose to use the One Ring, they get a Seeing (target is chosen) but it has 50% chance of not giving any useful information. Concerning the lynchings/kills when accusing, please add a last OOC line clarifying your vote; respect the deadlines... during day phase, if there's not enough votes after 48 hours, there *might* be a short extension; however, once that is over, whoever has the most votes will die. If there's a tie, the lynchee will be determined through dice; same holds true for night phase: if the targets of wolf/seer/baner aren't PMd me in the 24-hour-period, they are forfeited (that is, there will be no kill/no seeing/no baning); as the number of players decrease, day phases may be shorter provided all active players have posted; Eventual players who go inactive if you think you won't be able to post in a given period of time, PM me; please, don't post that information (I'm trying to avoid RL-caused 'kills'); if a special role (wolf/seer/baner/Ringbearer) goes inactive without previous notice, I'll deal with their targets; their posts will be taken care of; in other words - inactives players can still be wolves, seer, baner, Ringbearer. Keeper of the Lists (=backup mod): first active player who leaves the game will know who's who... so, if something happens and I disappear, go poke the backup!Edit: Mynx knows all the roles and has offered to be a backup mod, if needed. If you have any doubt, don't hesitate in PMing your friendly mod (a.k.a. me ) Sign-up is open until the first NPC kill, which should occur either on Friday evening or Saturday, and when roles will be PMd. Game starts next post. Happy "werewolfing"!
  24. Gryph, who was Seen? And... with how many votes did each of the lynched ones get out of the game? And to think that each day phase except for the first I've been voting Cryptomancer out... ... until I was lynched
