  2. which would go on the "What's Cool about Zool" thread, right? What's cool about Peredhil.. he listens he understands he forgives he sees the good in people he doesn't throw people away which makes him WAY cool in my book.
  3. *giggles* one of these days i suppose i'll have to write out the **other** half of the joke of "trying to walk in these things" huh?
  4. On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence. Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me." He just knew what it was. "Oh my", he shuddered, "it's Satan and the Lord dividing the souls at the cemetery." He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. "Come here quick", said the boy. "You won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls." The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk." When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me.........." "The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been tellin' the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord himself." Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord. At last they heard, "One for you, one for me." And one last "One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence, and we'll be done." They say the old man made it back to town a full 5 minutes ahead of the boy on the bike.
  5. mmm for *me*, more an acknowledgement of my absolute refusal to be where i'm not wanted, where all i can do is hurt and upset people because despite my best efforts.. i'm just wrong. damage control. i can, at least, do that much.
  6. okay, i probably wasn't supposed to laugh, but i confess i did. i do a LOT of writing in my word processors and text pads, simply because it's faster. yet the writing which feels most *real* is that which is safely in my notebook, written in my coloured ink of choice, safe from hard drive crashes, mistaken deletions, or random attacks by gremlins. though, sometimes, i wish i had a "find" feature on my notebooks.
  7. i like this. and i LOVE this.
  8. written late at night when once again i CANNOT sleep, and the lack is getting wearing. apologies for typos, bad grammar, or lack of skill. ~~~ i've slid into a sleep-dep funk from endless turns of night to day my thought processes all have sunk to "what's the safest thing to say?" i stare up to the stars at night when endless blackness calms my mind then glaring daylight draws my sight to start the day one step behind the must-do lists and chores i dread are piling higher as i try to stretch the day and get ahead but endless effort makes me cry tears of frustration as i creep into a corner far away from those who would not let me weep or even form the words to say "the price of keeping up's to steep. if i can't die, then.. let me sleep!"
  9. With the tools of our craft being words, much of what we convey to our readers depends upon definitions. Some words are easy, some may require a quick glance in the dictionary. Yet even at that, many words have personal meanings to some which overlay or even defy the dictionary definition, making communication even less precise than usual. It occurred to me, since those who've been doing the "writing exercises" have been dragged away kicking and screaming, of late, that it might be fun to explore some of the more ambiguous words and see how definitions coincide - and differ. How you choose to define the word is entirely up to you: standard definition style, a poem or story scene showing what the word means to you, what comes to mind when you hear or read the word, whatever works. If there's interest in continuing this, i'll try to update once a week. The word for the week - a nice multiple meaning word - Safe i'm looking forward to your responses, and will post mine after you've had a bit of time to think on this. Ayshela, trying hard to fill Salinye and Alaeha's shoes and wondering how the heck they walked in THESE...
  10. "There is no such thing as pure good or pure evil, least of all in people. In the best of us there are thoughts or deeds that are wicked, and in the worst of us, at least some virtue. An adversary is not one who does loathsome acts for their own sake. He always has a reason that to him is justification." Terry Goodkind - "Wizard's First Rule"
  11. well deserving of being bumped. i *still* feel that way every time i go to post something and almost delete it instead, or think three times about whether or not it's okay to leave non specific comments. and then i post anyway, because by and large the people here are *nice*, and sometimes there's someone out there who really understands - and then we both feel a little less alone. What seem like dumb comments when i leave them for others - when they say the same thing when i post, it's not dumb at all, it means a lot! so i leave my "dumb comments" anyway cuz maybe to someone else it's not dumb.. and at least they know i read it, and wanted to say something about it. i don't care how simple the comment is. that something that means something to me also means enough to someone else that, in whatever words they could find, they wanted to comment on it - that's what matters. it's putting a piece of myself out in public view and watching everyone turn away in silence, that hurts.
  12. and all that said in one breath?! i'm mightily impressed!!!
  13. so we get the party started early, is that so bad? Just more time to celebrate, and you deserve it.
  14. most common spell requests/references in EQ: SoW: aka Speed, Spirit of Wolf, a Shaman/Druid/Ranger spell which increases your run speed Clarity: aka Crack, Enchanter spell which speeds up mana regeneration KEI: high level enchanter spell which is a faster/longer lasting version of Clarity AND +25 to intelligence and wisdom, very valuable to casters. Rez: Resurrection, moves you back to the location of your corpse AND regains some of your lost experience at the cost of time spent recovering from "rez effects" - you are resurrected with no mana or physical strength Aego: Aegolism, high level cleric spell which increases Hit Points (HP) by 1100 and Armour Class (AC) by 54 Haste: Any one of a whole line of Enchanter/Shaman spells which increase a players attack speed Levi: Levitate, or at higher levels Levitation - pretty self explanatory, vital when running through "zones", or play areas, which have cliffs or steep banks, or in dungeons with false floors ~~~ Common terms: Zone - three usages 1. reference to a specific play area 2. the access point to the adjacent zone, or play area 3. to escape through that access point, usually from a "train" or "add" you can't handle KS - Kill Steal, attacking someone else's mob, or NPC, and doing more than half damage so that despite their efforts, you get the experience for the kill Camp - staying at a specific location hunting the same creatures for an extended period of time, OR hunting for a specific mob which is not commonly available (a "rare spawn") Buffs - Beneficial spells, usually augmenting HP, AC, mana regen, or speed PL - Power Level, to have buffs cast and/or be watched over by a higher level player which allows you to advance through the levels at a much faster rate than normal Babysitting - to watch over a lower level player, usually in conjunction with PL'ing them Twink - to give high level equipment to a low level character, or one who does so. Originally a highly derogatory term, less so now as servers have aged Bind point - the location you return to when you die, hopefully not too far away from where your corpse is Corpse Run - returning from your bind point to your corpse Looting - either taking money and items from the mob you killed, or regaining your money and gear from your corpse after you've made your corpse run Ninja Looting - looting corpses as soon as they've dropped without giving anyone else in the party a chance to do so Dot - two uses 1. Damage over Time, a spell which does significant damage spread over a period of time 2. short for Peridot, a gem which is a spell component for higher level cleric and enchanter spells Nuke, or DD - Direct Damage spell, all its damage done at once AoE - Area of Effect - some spells are able to hit more than one mob as long as they're within the spell range, or area. PBAoE - Point Blank Area of Effect - the range of the spell is outwardly centered from the caster mmm there's probably a bunch more, but that will do to go on for now.
  15. Ayshela comes in heavily laden with streamers, a HUGE banner reading "Happy Birthday Peredhil" and a magical birthday cake which, upon being distributed, becomes the favorite flavor of the one partaking. **HUGE hugs** to you, my friend, and best wishes for a wonderful day and marvelous year to come
  16. Ayshela followed Salinye down the corridors toward the meeting place. Stepping inside the door she looked around in appreciation. Mindful of those behind her, she moved to the table and chose a seat by the door. She sat patiently as the others came in and seated themselves, waiting.. and watching..
  17. Thoughts whirled madly behind his tired eyes, writhing and leaping over each other in an effort to reach the top - to find recognition, perhaps even expression. Realizing his thoughts had begun to reflect the swirling eddies in the drink he slowly twirled between his hands, he sighed, gulped the rest of his drink, and moved heavily toward the door still seeking relief. (edited for stupid spelling error)
