bad memories from youth are sometimes nightmares when older. depends on the memory, and whether it was an isolated incident or part of a larger pattern. also depends whether you're talking about unfair rules being enforced, random humiliations, or life threatening circumstances. *shrug* in any case, i find getting it on the *outside* where i can look the situation over from different perspectives helps immensely, as does having someone i trust to offer different perspectives i haven't reached yet.

mmm really depends on which memories and what stirred them, honestly. some of my methods of handling pain are more self destructive than others - and some are more useful than others. interleaved throughout them, though, is getting hold of someone to talk to. Unfortunately, the people i trust most, and those who know me the best, are thousands of miles away and difficult to reach in the best of circumstances. And yet.. and yet.. dumping a surface layer of stuff into e-mail or IM and shooting it to one or another or yet another - perceptive as they are they know there's more bubbling below the surface awaiting an unguarded moment in which to drown me, and the responsiveness is there. And when life goes to hell in a handbasket on their end, they know i'm at the other end of the phone line, the other side of the screen, whichever works for them. "Yes, i'd like to phone a friend." =)

intermediate draft, jotting it down while the thought is there: Alone Hold tightly, small one, your hands to your side. Or wrap around tightly, your warm heart to hide. Run swiftly - be careful! Don't stumble, don't fall. Don't let yourself see you're alone, after all.

funny.. i was thinking "isn't it odd how what breaks you isn't the catastrophic, but the endless chipping away of the small things?"

Cyril - THANK you! it will be a few days before i have a few moments to sit down with this one again, currently being preoccupied with taking a large stick and beating life into submission.. you raise good points, as always, which i greatly appreciate. i hope to have a revision to post soon.

happy birthday you all, hope it's been splendid for you. =)

NNNNooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! *sniffle* well, okay, but only if you have fun on your trip. hope things go well for you! will miss you, and look forward to seeing you about again.

mmmmm i like this. it flows well. a couple minor suggestions - watch your "its" and "it's" - in this case the apostrophe is contraction, not possession. also, this line "imparts you with" would read more accurately as "imparts to you". you wouldn't say "gives you with" or "conveys you with" or "communicates you with" - but "to you" would fit in any instance. Nice work, i hope to see you around much more!

*nod* it would be an interesting comparison and contrast between this poem and yours, BCH - however, in the interests of the community i'd recommend that we keep the focus on *writing* and on the poetry itself and check the controversy at the door. =)

Oh! my goodness! *blushes madly* umm.. *stutter* i've been nominated! my goodness! i accept, though i don't understand.

Ayshela steps inside the Birthday Room and slips on a stray splotch of frosting. She skids across the room, colliding with Wyvern and accidentally knocking him into one of the ten very large birthday cakes. whooops! umm, sorry about that. *blush* Happy Birthday!

*speechless* *looks back at the most recent entries* *blinks* *speechless*

i take it you didn't enjoy yourself at the poetry reading you had to attend, eh? *hugs*

*nod* which would be why he specified that as falling under *Eros* and in the context of marriage. i'm glad you had time to type the rest of that in, as Per's been rather lacking in the spare-seconds department lately. mmm. i left this one unanswered yesterday thinking my nerves would be less jangled and i'd be a little less sleep deprived and better able to come up with a coherent answer - hah! so much for that thought.. so, preliminary answer in case this trend continues.. to me, love is care and concern for someone's health, happiness, and well-being, shown by doing things which facilitate those things - even when that seems contradictory. You can love someone and do something with their well-being in mind, something in their long term best interest, even though in the immediate sense it doesn't make them very happy. So.. caring enough to keep an eye on someone else's best interest. (and yes, that encompasses a *lot* of relationship possibilities)

reads, nods silently, but finds no words in response

Ayshela wanders through in a sleepy, mind fogged before-bed check on things. Her eyes fly open as she sees that it's Merelas' birthday and she goes hurtling down the hall to the Birthday Room to hurl herself upon him in gleeful hugs! Noting that it's Stale's birthday as well, she turns to him with an impish grin and promises not to knock him off his feet. Yays!!! Happy Birthday, you two! Hope it's splendiferous for you!
-
*hugs* astonishing, isn't it, that the more you fill with pain the emptier you feel?
-
Ayshela whirls through hanging a Happy Birthday banner spanning between the rooms and leaving a cake in each room, then flies off again leaving birthday wishes echoing behind her
-
*sits back and enjoys the story, noting just for reference that the Hearth Room has been fixed*
-
YAY! *Gives Tralla a big happy hug and joins her in the new tail spinner.. err.. tale spinner.. dance*

*note* i strongly recommend composing offline, or copying your text to a word processor (or even notepad) and saving a copy of it on your system. Crashes happen, data gets lost, and it's far better to archive your work on your own system or CD backup.
