  1. *snickers* "For the want of a shoe?"
  2. Ozymandias, who had been quietly enjoying himself in a corner and obeserving, overheard that key point of conversation and choked on his coffee, scalding his sinuses in the process. Oh my. I shall have to see if I can't locate the Dreamer to watch for any abrupt destruction of reality when those two enter the same room... He continued to blend in with the wall (wood grain skin, robes, and all), which confused those patrons passing by the still slightly gasping and spluttering empty table.
  3. Thursday, March 8th, 2007. Captain America has been killed, and perhaps so has my mad adventure with Marvel Comics. More later.
  4. attempted to use an electric toothbrush as an exfoliant? bled orange? been asked a question so important, that it took three years to answer?
  5. Killed in altercation at Red Sea after proclaiming to Jewish leaders, "Your 'parted waters' trick doesn't scare the great Pharaoh RamsURBPLHGBULGBh...*" OR Found out the bull pen is also mightier than the sword.
  6. Happy Birthday wishes and a chocolate giraffe our Sock Sleuth. :>) (I could only afford a midget, I hope you don't mind... ^^;
  7. /me takes a little bow. Glad to be of service. /me impales Geldrinhor with a spatula. ... ... Not really sure about the butter and eggs...they're not very pointy OR sharp... Perhaps the butter could be frozen, then sharpened? Yes! That's it! Most ridculously complex fatality EVER! ^^
  8. try El Sabroso Salsita chips(Unless you have any complicating allergies). always have the following in your car/truck/on your bike/boat/etc.:one fresh change of clothes, one dictionary, one thesaurus, three nonperishable lunches, one breakfast, one dinner, a good book (or four magazines, or four comic books), coupons. zombies make for a better boardgame than even real estate investing. watch cartoons that have no profane language. if a kiss doesn't help, a kiss and a band-aid will. if a kiss and a band-aid don't help, some antiseptic, a band-aid and a kiss will. if a kiss, a band-aid, and antiseptic don't help, a kiss, a band aid, antiseptic and a lolly (or ice cream) will. if antiseptic, a band-aid, a kiss AND a lolly (or ice cream) don't make it better, you need a doctor. if you feel like you're going to throw up or have diaherrea, assume that you will.
  9. Tzim & rev: no multilingual dreams here, but I was able to read in two. In the first one, it didn't last. Watching the letters become gibberish characters was creepy and fascinating at the same time.
  10. been rejected by one of the most important people in your life and surprised yourself by being genuinely happy for them? owned more than sixty-five shaving razors all at once? eaten dinner out of a garbage can? gone for a walk in a hurricane? been asked out by the most popular girl in school and turned her down? given up and gone about your business with half a beard? been given a sole to remember someone by? had to park on instead of in the parking lot? been permanently scarred by the inappropriate use of a bookshelf? kept a record of your sins? slept in a hurricane? owned a puppet that's been to more countries than you ever have? slept in a homeless shelter's attic? seen someone killed in front of you?

  12. Tam Cardeen, age 25. Cooper and carpenter. Hasn't spoken or written a word since his twin sister Shelly disappeared during a rainstorm when they were three. They had wandered away when their overworked father had fallen asleep watching them. The elder Cardeen didn't wake until the storm was well under way (the first close thunderclap was what did it), so the search began very late. Tam was found silently clinging for his life to a bush halfway down a ravine that had become a raging river. Shelly was presumed drowned, though no evidence of her fate was ever discovered. Tam has been wordless since, communicating only through gesture and other body or facial language. He remains a clever man, and very astute in architecture. The only point where he seems to show any loss of comprehension or perhaps senses is when confronted with the request to write something. At those points, Tam gives every indication of shutting down emotionally until the request is removed from his immediate attention- unless the request is repeated too often, which at one time landed him a night in jail for punching a traveling salesman. He does not mind any number of yes or no questions, or waiting for folk to decipher his "signing"- usually.
  13. P.S.- Let me not forget Mardrax, Tanny, Whisky, Nightfae, Sweetcherrie, Canid, Finnius and reverie- for all of you inspired me in this discussion and beyond to keep going, no matter how much I wanted to tear my hair out. ... Brownies for everyone!!!! (I'm a sucker for a happy ending. Speaking of which, I hope you recover speedily, rev.) ~me again~
  14. Rev: You really should set about writing your life's story. I'd buy ten; one for me, nine to hand out to friends who'd also appreciate. I'm serious! All: Well, I *was* going to add something all deep, and meaningful, and...yeah. Then GeldrinHor, Zool, Tzim, Yui, Pered and Ayshela all stepped up and said almost everything I wanted to say (*and* answered all the questions I was gonna ask!). You even all said it so much better than I'll be able to for years to come. Drat you, one and all. \;>) Truly, folks: many thanks. You're all more boon to me and those around you than you know. Two bits that should still be said: Yes, The Cabaret Room *is* open to general discussion. No spamming, please. I will personally get very aggravated at you if you spam. Domo arigato, and keep on truckin'. ~
  15. ...indeed it is. Thank you for that timely clarification, Madame Appy. :>) C'mon, brain! Work with me here! You're making us look bad!!
  16. Here in the Cabaret and the Minstrel hall, at this very moment, we are having grand, sweeping, "let's-roll-up-our-sleeves-and-get-down-to-work" discussions on many issues that have been a long time in coming OUT. I for one, amd thrilled at the response (see also "A Discussion",right here in the Cab and The Mighty Pen Review in the Minstrel Hall*). Do I agree with everything said? Well, no...but the fact remains this' all stuff that we as a community have needed to get off of our collected butts and work through togther for a long time now, even if it "only" leaves us with a better understanding of one another. Thus, how each talk is going makes me want to dance a little jig (inbetween grasping for my ibuprofen and gasping for breath- long and deep discussion. Not in the bad way- just that it's so VERY big, it's hard to keep up with everybody!) That brings me to the main reason behind this note. They've been such wonderful and involved processes since they started, but I'm wrestling with the added personal blessing and difficulty of having been tapped for a promotion at my job three days after the "A Discussion" discussion began. This is awesome for me, in the long term, but in the short term, while I'm still under review for the position, I'm needing to run around like a crazy person every single work day, and I don't forsee that stopping until approximately a month after I get promoted. In short, I *am* following all of it, but have to do so at about half the speed that everyone else is, at leats for now. But that in no way means I've abandoned anybody and their hard work, even if it ends up meaning that I have replied for a day or two to anything. It just means I'm still reading, considering, and conferencing over the phone with those Pennites I am in phone contatct with. Jsyk. Keep up the good work, folks. :>) ~Ozymandias~ *Minstrel Hall is open only to voting members, if anyone wasn't sure. If you have any questions I'lll be happy to answer in as timely a manner as I can.
  17. ...had to deal with some recalcitrant lace? ...cut yourself with your shoe? ...hurt a friend, knowing you'd hate yourself if you didn't?
  18. Zool, you are welcome here, but this conduct is not. Stepping away does sound like the best thing right now-go ahead. I think I understand why you're angry, but now is obviously not the time to address that. Take a deep breath, have a coffee, a beer, Moutain Dew, whatever your drink of choice is. Come back when you've calmed down. Consider this a friendly warning.
  19. Author's intended thread closed due to confusion; now reopened. This unintended thread is pretty neat so it stays here.
  20. Large amount of topic drift moved at thread author's request to here.
  21. Whisky, a disclaimer for you, first: what I'm about to say is probably quite inflammatory, but under the circumstances in which this thread was created, if nothing else, I decided it was only fair and rational to put this here, instead of a new thread. In other words, I'm probably going to get people very mad and/or hurt here, and it's no reflection on you. (and so far I really like the way your mind works, btw.) What this thread inspired me to was ire and sadness. When I read your initial thread, Whisky, I was rather pleased. Then I read the replies made to it, and that changed. Zool, reverie, I couldn't disgaree with you more. At surface level, the points you brought up sidestepped all of those folks who really only feel comfortable giving intimate information (which most written work for most writers IS, in whole or in part) to people they know. How do you get to know someone? Spend time with them, surely (which each of you already included in your opinions/suggestions). But what's also absolutely vital to learning more about someone? Talking to them. About anything, or everything. If we were to impose limits on what subjects are permissible and which are forbidden, I get an Orwellian itch, y'know? Politics and religion are two of (if not THE two) the most emotionally charged and thus most easily destabilized discussions any two people can ever have. And yet, do these not form the framework of our day to day lives? Be you Republican, Democrat, Whig, Buddhist, Muslim...all of this has an indelible and fundamental connections to how we perceive our world, to our morals even. And it's being suggested that we as a community should pretend they're not there??? That it's okay, so long as no one sees, or hears? Come ON! Are we writers, or are we mice? These are things that not only are major portions of our lives, but our audiences' too! The POINT of writing is communciation. You want to reach your audience, but want to refuse your education in these universal matters? Even in so small a portion of everyone's lives as this site is, that's still tantamount to being a native english speaker traveling the world, and impatiently waiting for everyone else to learn english. I've seen such censorship being comitted here before, years ago, and when I saw that it hadn't happened for years after that, I assumed that it was gone; that we'd grown out of it. We all know what happens with assuming. Please don't do this.
  22. The men were deposited thirty feet to the left of their original position. William found himself inexplicably transported there with his face only a millimeter from the stone wall. He swore a curse (an actual one) so vile, that the glass in every window in a five mile long straight line split in two. Meanwhile, cries from around the Pen keep became more fevered as more and more folk were called to the scene of the latest crime. Orlan's tower was missing in entirety. All that remained was a message written on still more playing cards, king, queen, jack, king, queen, jack, over and over: E T ' S J E S T T H B G I N I N G ...and a pair of shiny, shiny sunglasses. Not even the ground was disturbed.
  23. Ah, FARS. Had but one experience in that place, but I still miss it. :>) I loved the language used in this one - you made it sound like a tour guide/ local guide for hire was telling the story; it was as natural as a reader could ask for. One question, though. This line tripped me up: "The great Merchant ships eventually fell into disuse, excerbated by the loss of the dockworker who'd carried the ships ashore for maintenance." Who or what the heck was this dockworker? A single worker carrying ships ashore? Was he a giant? Wizard? Giant wizard? What???
  24. always wash your hands twice after handling any pepper spicier than a jalapeno. never chew an entire pack of gum all at once. experiment in the kitchen. when experimenting in the kitchen, do so with cheap foods (unless you have the disposable income to dispose of any of the truly frightening creations you will devise with little or no regret). floss. brush your teeth. dust your playstation regularly.
