Werewolf VIII - Newcomers encouraged!!

Alright, but I'm just copying and pasting from page 1... (The descriptions are mainly my own, since we didn't really write official-type descriptions this time. If you want a better one, please write it up in the OOC or PM me). Nave as Woof - thinks he's a dog Gnarlitch as Itchy - general troublemaker Vahktang as Milos / Aic - everyone from "One Flew Over the Cuckoos's Nest" Ozymandias as Lamont - crazy somehow or other Eyremon as Eyremon - is fighting some sort of war dragonqueen as Rena - thinks everyone's out to get her MTUFoolish as Mike - thinks he's Michael Jackson Dean as Napolean - not really Napolean Jammeez as Jammeez - big troublemaker -
Celes: Thank you. But come to think of it, it's only a few days before Canada Day, so isn't he being equally rude to all Canadians? (I guess in Quebec you probably celebrate both, though...) I'm curious, Celes - I must admit I don't know much about the BQ except that they support Separatism - what do you think of Gilles Duceppe and the Bloc? Nyyark: Oh, don't apologize. I didn't mean to restrict this thread to Canadians at all - feel free to barge Minority government - don't you have the same thing in the US? It basically means that although you got the most votes of anybody, you're still in the minority because there are 3 other parties. Unless you get some number of seats, which I think is about half. When you're a majority government, it's a lot easier to pass new laws & stuff. As for the Conservatives not being in the running, I've wondered about that myself, and am beginning to conclude that people who know very much about their policies don't support them, and the Pen tends toward the sort of population who would know their policies before supporting someone. Of course, if there is anyone here who can prove that wrong, please tell me, because I would hate to be generalizing wrongly. And I would like to hear the other opinions. Also, for the Americans reading this, I think someone should start a thread for that election as it gets nearer, as I think this sort of crash course in the politics of another country would be pretty neat to read. I'd like to know more than just the fact that Bush is running again.

All right, then. I'd been hoping that Elwen or even someone else might still be able to squeeze in, but it's too late now. Roles have (finally) been sent. (The site went down last night after sending one message!) Thus the timing has been screwed up a little because I want phases to change about 12 hours away from this time. Since your own role probably won't change who you're accusing, I'm going to try giving you guys 36 hours from now to finish this day phase and lynch someone. Actual lynching will probably work fine in this setting, except that Dustin isn't up for lynching, so work around that however you want. If you want to have your character suspect him, I don't care, but realize that he's basically a null vote. (Don't worry, Dustin will die soon.) Oh, and remember that your baner can't give their role away if you're trying to kill them, they can only claim innocence, and everyone can claim that. So just be careful I guess. All right. Game on!

OOC: I editted the end of my last post. As Gnarlitch said, it was lame. I have a better excuse for none of you being suspected. Go back and read the last three paragraphs again before reading this please. The night was long but relatively uneventful. The patients were commanded to stay in the common room, and anyone who tried to leave immediately discovered that the tougher orderlies had been posted as guards. More than once a patient was dragged back into the room and told to go to sleep. In fact, more than once Jammeez was dragged back. At first, few slept, but as the night wore on, most did. Dustin still kept mainly to himself, trying to convince himself to talk to the others but simply not desiring to know these strange people any better. There was some random shouting during the night, more often than not referring to some sort of war. Woof woke everyone up at four in the morning with a fit of barking, but it wasn't until an angry and unfamiliar voice on the other side of the door shouted for him to stop that anyone took notice. A few minutes later, Ms. Triffle entered the room. Looking around to discover everyone was indeed awake, she cleared her throat to speak. "The man responsible for the murder has been caught. The police have not released very many details except that he worked alone. Therefore, we will be going to the zoo today. In order to keep your minds off of the recent death of one of our number, we will leave right after breakfast." She left, the guards were dispersed, and amid great commotion the patients got themselves ready for the day. After they ate, each group left with a couple of nurses for a different section of the zoo. (if anyone wants to roleplay parts of the zoo visit, please do) At noon, however, when the groups were to reassemble for a large picnic lunch, one of them could not be found. Dustin's group was missing in its entirety. A large search was conducted and the members were one by one rounded up, except their accompanying nurses. After more searching, their bodies were finally found in one of the zoo bathrooms. None of the patients could recall any information about who could have done it, just that one had gone in, and when she hadn't returned the other had followed. When she wasn't back within about a minute, the group had slowly scattered to all corners of the zoo. As soon as this information was divulged, all groups were dragged back to the Institution. Everyone was locked up in the common room, except Dustin and his group, who were locked up separately in the dinner hall, and guarded even more strictly than the others. Ms. Triffle didn't even make a speech, although they could hear a muffled discussion through the walls, and then pacing for a long while before she must finally have left. OOC: Accusations are now open, although I won't send out roles for another couple of hours because Tam is dragging me away. I swear it'll be tonight. -

Dustin sees all of this going on and is beginning to doubt ever coming here. These people are much crazier than himself. Then he sees his wolf again, and tells himself that no matter how much these people are obviously crazy, deep inside he is just as bad. Still, he doesn't feel like getting to know any of them any better just yet. He turns to one of the nurses and nods, and she takes him outside to grab his stuff and put everything in his room. Ten minutes later, Rena is really beginning to trust Lamont when suddenly there is a scream from Dustin's room. A few of the orderlies go running, but the ones that stay make sure no one follows. Rena begins ranting again, although she doesn't object to Lamont's presence. Itchy, who's trying to follow Jammeez and Woof, is held back by an orderly who ignores his loud protests, simply pointing to another orderly to fetch the two missing patients. Only a minute passes before the nurse that had gone with Dustin returns, looking harried. Dustin trails her, holding a suitcase. Mike pauses in his dance long enough to enquire of Dustin the source of the scream. "I thought at first that it was a young girl screaming her love for me. But sadly, no young girls are around at the moment. I don't even see any young..." "It was the blood-filled death of the lollipop nation! I saw it myself, the sun setting over the purple fields of lizard-men..." "It was them!! They're here to get me! Help me, lead me away before they come to this room!" Rena grabs Lamont's hand, who tries to calm her down again to little success. Finally, just as Jammeez and Woof are dragged into the room by a large black orderly, Dustin is able to speak. "I thought it wasn't real. I mean, I see things like it all the time. But the odd thing was, she saw it too." Dustin guestured to the nurse, who was now crying loudly and absentmindedly patting Woof's head. "It was a dead woman, spread out over my bed and ripped apart, bleeding... it was horrible, if I hadn't assumed that I was just seeing things, I might have screamed too." There is a commotion among the patients, and a few nurses return to the common room carrying food trays. "We're eating here tonight," says Ms. Triffle, taking control of things and sending some orderlies to guard each door. "We might still be in danger." A pretty young nurse says fearfully, "How do we know it wasn't any of these people, Ms. Triffle?" Ms. Triffle leans in and whispers something to the nurse. Dustin looks on curiously until Jammeez shouts gleefully: "It was one of ours!" An orderly tries to cover her mouth but the muffled sounds come out, "The police caught him leaving the scene, covered in blood!" Ms. Triffle turns, horrified. "This one has caused enough trouble tonight. Please give her some sleeping pills. And anyone else who wants to make this harder on us all." The woman glares at Jammeez and leaves. An orderly, rather limp-looking, monotones: "Jammeez, I don't want to fight with you right now. If you can behave, I will not give you those pills." OOC: As stated in the OOC thread, the first "day phase" has not yet begun, and roles have not yet been sent. Accusations will not officially begin until the second murder has been posted, at least 24 hours from now. Editted (to be less lame ) -
Oh - and have you tried restarting the comp? If not, do that ASAP, as it fixes most problems.
-
Another good thing to try (for temporary sanity) is closing as many of the running tasks/processes as possible. You may find the one that's causing the loading. (Don't close Explorer, though, that'll restart your computer). I think alt-ctrl-del will get you the task window regardless of Windows version...? Just don't press it twice.

Yeah, I think that probably removing the hunter and therefore the whole idea of wolf curing (which was good, until the flaws were pointed out ) is best. This stacks it back toward the wolf, so I will give the baner special ability to kill a wolf if attacked (intended kill victim). This means the baner need not worry about baning themselves at any point BUT they are NOT allowed to give away their role to anyone, and the seer is not allowed to give away the baner's role except as "innocent", under any circumstances. I'm not sure what I'd do if someone broke this rule, so don't make me decide, kay? Therefore: * Begin with 1 wolf, 1 seer, 1 wolf-proof baner. * Wolf tries to convert a villager the first night. (If wolf is lynched on day 1, random villager becomes wolf but that wolf misses a night phase before being able to kill) * After that, wolf/ves alternate/s between kill and conversion. * Wolves are allowed to discuss any strategy. I'd love to be cc'd on them in order to do the writeup later, but it's not a requirement. * Day phase is 48 hrs, Night phase is 24 hrs. * Innocents win if wolves all lynched, wolves win if #wolves = #innocents. * Baner picks a person to "bane" each night - if victim, no kill/conversion. If wolf, chance of kill decreases to 0/1, 1/2, 2/3 etc (depending on # of wolves) * Baner cannot be kill victim - if attacked, has 1/2 chance of killing a wolf. * Baner and Seer cannot be conversion victims. No conversion that night if Baner or Seer is attacked. * Since the Baner cannot be killed or converted, only lynched, the baner's role is not allowed to be revealed by anyone. * Seer chooses one person to have role revealed per night. Villagers can change roles though, so the seer must be aware of how many conversions have occurred since each vision. * Each "morning" I will post a list of how many people we have in each role along with the explanation of night activities. I will go catch up on the story, and post a kill. No roles yet, and no direct accusations. (I mean, you can accuse someone, but there will be no resultant lynching until I post a second kill.) Lady Celes, you're out of the game for sure? When was it that people were returning again?

Is it okay to rhyme masculine with feminine? And are you saying that in a sonnet, the rhyming words must have the same number of syllables? And, uh, how does a rhyme flirt, may I ask?
-
It looks like that one even includes the chorus, and still no one has gotten it... I think Peredhil has probably beaten my record for longest time now. Any hints?
-
Pokes Peredhil. Waves to Deggy. Celes: He might think that the Quebecois will be less likely to vote at all? It does seem like a rather bad idea on his behalf. Anyway, can you explain what "the St-Jean" is, for those of us (like myself) who don't know but are curious? BPO: The other 30% is evil, but not pure evil because that purety is something that can only be accomplished by Harper. (Just kidding - Stockwell Day did pretty good, too. ) In general, if we get a minority I will be happy about it. I'd much prefer a Liberal minority over a Conservative minority, but there ain't nothing anyone can do about that at this point (even if the polls are wrong) so whatever. Although, Tam, I'd like to note that either party is much more likely to do the latter.
-
Speaking of which, Salinye... how does one join the AVV?
-
This Masculine/Feminine stuff is new to me. What is the purpose of distinguishing?
-
That's funny, after reading the lyrics I thought "Beatles", but I don't think I've ever heard the song.
-
Well, you guys have basically convinced me to use my vote to support the party I believe in, whether they have a chance or not. (Although this election, it is still the NDP). But as a debater at heart, I have to argue the other side for a moment: If Party A is 70% aligned with your values, Party C is 95% aligned with your values and Party B is -999999% aligned with your values, and Party A and B are neck and neck in the polls, why is it so bad to support Party A? I mean, this is about how I'd feel about each of those parties forming the government, and if I think that Party A is actually pretty decent, I don't think it's a waste to vote for them. Although, in an ideal world, there would be no polls, and no worries about "wasted votes", and this would lead to the most accurate picture of what the voters want, it's also true that no matter what you do, people will try to think of it this way. And that's why the Liberals are in power so often. Canadians are split between Left and Right, and the Center is exactly that, a center, a common ground that can try to appease both sides.

Yup! The song was Jokerman. (lyrics here). Anyone else got a toughie?
-
Hint, then, Ozy... This from an amazing songwriter with a somewhat debatable talent for the actual singing.

Seen this.. Very good points raised... Final exam tonight... Will alter my plans and post later...

Yes, I forgot Green because a) They're not "official", or whatever it is that gets you into the big Debate, I don't know enough about them to comment very well, except that they sound like a pretty good choice, and c) I forgot I partially agree with Izabella about not "wasting" votes, especially since some polls claim that the Conservatives are heading to a majority. But living in Saskatchewan, and lacking any good polls to predict the feeling here, I would have to look back and see that historically, SK is an NDP province. I think I would be wasting my vote to go Liberal, but as it's hard to say, I ought to just vote my heart anyway, right? As you say, the NDP have been in power and screwed it up. But can you honestly say that any party (save Green ) hasn't? Each one, whether under the same name or not (the number of times that the Right-Winged party has had to change their name is excuse enough to worry about them) has been in power and proven that they have no intentions of following up on campaign promises. I don't really want to vote Green this election; although your arguments are compelling, I do still worry about wasting the vote when the Conservatives are doing so well in the polls, so I think that my best bet right now is NDP. Although I'm teetering.

This stems from the Shoutbox discussion. I'm not sure if the questions were serious or just teasing me, but I'm gonna try to answer them anyway. If you don't care, then by all means ignore this. I also need to add a disclaimer that some comments will be entirely my own opinion, and others will be flavoured by that opinion. If you disagree, feel free to debate it, it would be fantastic if this could stem a serious discussion on any of these issues, and I welcome alternate views. I just want to be careful that no one takes any of it *too* seriously, okay? I would have no ill feelings if this thread suddenly disappeared (courtesy on on-the-ball mods) because there was even one flamelike post made. That said... ...The debates are mostly about Health Care, the Liberal Sponsorship Scandal, and sounding good to Quebec, which has 1/3 of our population. The NDP want to switch to a different representational system, the Conservatives want to abolish a ton of rights (like stepping backward on abortion, the right of inmates to vote, and steps that it looks like most other parties would have soon taken on gay rights to marriage or a similar arrangement). Personally I am horrified that we are still considering making people unequal for such superficial reasons as sexual orientation, but regardless of position on the "gay issue", the Conservatives have a lot of ideas that are really scary. The Liberals are basically just trying to convince the public that what they've been doing for the last many years is good, and that if they're allowed back in, things will get even better. And of course the Bloc-Quebecois are still working toward getting Quebec to separate. (I stole that from someone, but it's awesome anyway )

Thursday I will incur an NPC death and you may talk about it, but no accusations (it will not be clear that it is a patient who did the kill). Shortly after, since I think we need to actually begin soon, there will be a definite murder and I will PM roles and we will start Day Phase #1. I am toying with altering the rules though... Start with 1 werewolf, 1 seer, 1 hunter, 1 baner. Hunter has chance of converting wolf to villager if chosen as victim. I know, that's a lot for 9 people total, and seemingly stacked against wolves, but wait. Wolf alternates between killing people and converting. This fits with spreading disease. Seer/Hunter/Baner cannot be converted - this would result in no kills and no conversions for that night. Unless the wolf is lynched on Day 1, the baner blocks the wolf or victim, or the wolf makes an unlucky choice, day 2 begins with two wolves. Wolves talk together about their kills/conversions. As I see it, it is stacked a little for the innocents at first but if they make bad decisions it begins to be stacked more and more for the wolves. This is probably evened out by having three major innocent roles. The only thing is, I might intervene if the wolf is lynched on day 1, and have the disease spread to one random villager. I'll justify that intervention my making them too sick to kill or convert on their first night phase as a wolf, thereby rewarding the innocents for their good choice with a chance of choosing well again during 2 day phases, as well as an extra vision for the seer. This might seem complicated at first, but I don't think it actually is. And I think it'll make for a very interesting game. Summary: * Begin with 1 wolf, 1 seer, 1 baner and 1 hunter. * Wolf tries to convert a villager the first night. (If wolf is lynched on day 1, random villager becomes wolf but that wolf misses a night phase before being able to kill) * After that, wolf/ves alternate/s between kill and conversion. * Day phase is 48 hrs, Night phase is 24 hrs. * Innocents win if wolves all lynched, wolves win if #wolves = #innocents. * Baner picks a person to "bane" each night - if victim, no kill/conversion. If wolf, chance of kill decreases to 0/1, 1/2, 2/3 etc (depending on # of wolves) * Hunter does nothing unless the wolf chooses them as kill victim, and then wolf has 1/2 chance of being cured (conversion to villager) * Seer chooses one person to have role revealed per night. Roles can change though. * Each "morning" I will post a list of how many people we have in each role along with the explanation of night activities. Questions?

I just wanted to note that my 500th post was the 100th reply and 400th view on a thread. (Funny how we sometimes notice these things...) And, my 501st post is the 1st reply and 1st view on a thread, but that's not nearly as interesting. Anyway, to make good use of this thread that I'm creating, I may as well implement an idea I had. * plucks an idea out of the air around her head and plops it into the post * Anyone up for a game whereby we recite lyrics from fairly popular (not necessarily current, just something most of us would recognize if we heard it) songs, and see who can figure out which song it comes from? Of course, anyone can look it up on the 'net, but how many can recognize the words without looking? Standing on the waters casting your bread While the eyes of the idol with the iron head are glowing. Distant ships sailing into the mist, You were born with a snake in both of your fists while a hurricane was blowing. Freedom just around the corner for you But with the truth so far off, what good will it do?http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/jokerman.html' target='_blank'>

OOC: Not that I really want to bump this thing, but we can't leave a castle just lying around. IC: Katzaniel lay stretched out in her huge four-poster canape bed. She was in tiger form to match the patterned sheets, tail flicking in her sleep. Ozymandias was watching her from his chair, where he'd fled because he couldn't get any sleep with that tail going at that speed, but Katzaniel couldn't help it because ever since she'd received the phone call from Wyvern, she had bad dreams. She told Ozy about them each morning, unaware that he hadn't been able to fall asleep at all, and he would comfort her, telling her that even Wyvern wouldn't be capable of the horrible things he did in the nightmares. Five days, they had quickly realized, coincided with a day that Ozymandias had uncancellable committments. He had to make a presentation to the newly promoted initiates, and since he'd skipped his last four turns, the eldership was forcing him to do it this time. "I'll only be gone for an hour," he'd told her, but they both knew what Wyvern could do with an hour. So, when Katzaniel woke up that morning, Ozymandias did everything he could to prepare. The huge cat went willingly into the humongous pyramid that had been constructed for this, catacomb-like corridors winding in a maze that Wyvern would certainly be unable to trek in the time that Ozy would be away. But, of course, they underestimated Wyvern's trickiness. The new initiates were all under the impression that their membership was dependent on their ability to tell a story in single run-on sentence of more than 10,000 words, and by the time that each of them had assailed Ozymandias with their tales, it was not only late evening but he was too exhausted to do anything but fall to the floor. Each time he had tried to convince the initiates that they had it wrong, they had started again from the beginning, and the whole thing had been the worst plight that Ozy had ever been in, in his entire time as Loremaster. While all this was happening, Wyvern was navigating the maze. He had what appeared to be a big napsack over his shoulder - in fact, he had first kidnapped Racoul, and planned to put Katzaniel in his pockets - and was tiptoeing down the tunnels with a wicked grin on his face. Unbeknownst to him, Tyrion had set himself to do guard duty, and when the almost-dragon finally stepped into the hallway before the central room where Katzaniel was hidden, a tripwire sent an electromagnetic waveform in warning to Tyrion, who then tapped the edge of the pyramid with a frequency that caused everything but the carefully altered tip to shatter, collapsing into a temporary prison for Wyvern. With Ozymandias detained by the brainwashed initiates, Wyvern trapped beneath the stones of the pyramid, and Gwaihir busy with his application to the Story-Weaver Guild, Tyrion read his letter to Katzaniel, who immediately fell for his intelligent physics-related jokes and his determination. Leaving the Loremaster to discover the fallen pyramid and deal with the trapped almost-dragon on his own, the Eater of Non-Members did indeed run off with the Official Non-Member. Ozymandias's destructive rage was unparalled at the Pen, and in a short while the castle had been levelled to a pile of rock. Nothing beside remains.

Just a thought, then... you could temporarily put in politicians from ten years ago, like maybe Campbell, Manning, McDonough (sp?)... I mean, in case you forget about it.
-
Just one kid? How old? How long have you known / been married to your spouse? I know someone who had to go through the death of their child, and from my perspective it was probably made so much worse through the fact that no one ever expects to live longer than their children. So young. A parent dying is terrible, a spouse dying is worse (depending a little bit on how old you are) but seeing a child die is absolutely horrible. I'm assuming you love your husband (/wife) and your child, probably about equally, but deep down inside most of us are at least partially prepared to be without their spouse at some point. Sorry Tam, but I think if it came right down to it (and if it *really* came to it, I'd certainly die before anyone else) then I'd ask that the child be allowed to live.
