...small note: Don't forgot some culture place more emphasis on logic and reason while other cultures or even subcultures place emphasis on emotion and passion. Reconciling these two are very difficult as an individual brought in either group will intepret events and facts in entire different ways... Knight: I don't think it's as simple as a people acting out of good or evil in qualitative terms or otherwise... I think using the terms confuses the issue. People take action in a way that best suit their needs. They act either in their best interest of themselves, their families, friends, allies, society in general or something they are loyal to... if nothing else then for just their own survival. Everything is relative to the situation at hand. rev...

My take on all this is Perspective and or Frame of Reference. I think philophers might also refer to it as a mythos... Anyway, my belief is that everyone has a unique take of view on things. Elements of which are defined and inspired by the culture and enviroment they grow up and thrive in. Everyone may share common elements that make up a person's viewpoint, but how an individual interprets all this i.e. the world for the most part uniquely his or her own. So, what i'm getting at, is everyone has a world outlook or view. Those that have a more rigidly defined perspective will become very defensive if one of the founding elements of their viewpoint is challenge. Examples of this could be the existance of God, the validity of evolution, the nature of the universe. or even the an uninformed belief that the science of the day is set in stone...(this runs contrary to nature of science which is constantly evolving under the microscope of investigation) Some Eastern religions may have it easier than western one's when challenged. Buddist and Taoist kinda just go with the flow... where certain branches of christanity and islam are dead set of converted everyone else to their viewpoint. Hmm, oh so my point is this: 1. People operate within a frame a reference/perspective that is uniquely their own. 2. People become defensive if a founding principle is challenge. 3. Defense can turn reactionary and irrational is core principles are shaken. Also i believe, that having your perspective challenge is a good thing. This happens all the time, most people will seek to rationalize this or attempt to assemulate a new view into their own. Compromises usually occur; life is give and take. Kids grown up and accept that there is no Santa Clause or Eastern Bunny. Hopefully they will grow from the challenges and literally expand their horizons. A danger though is people becoming jaded I guess... rev...

hmm... well my mynx, I guess it really boilings down too are you ashamed of your success? Do you feel you do not deserve it? Perhaps you feel a fraud, fake. Or worse yet even guilty? If so, then guilt may be the culprit. Also keep in mind that "the best laid plan" really do tend to "go a rye." You can't be perfect, no matter how hard you try. All your efforts and plans may blow up in your face, it happens... If luck may have happened to favor you this time, then enjoy it. What's the old saying, "luck favors the well prepared?" as for the darkness... well it will never leave you.... or rather the reason behind it will never leave you... it takes years to turn it into positive stuff... good luck with it... it's not easy... rev...

I intended to update my unfinished Sand poem in the writer's workshop,(see link) but this came out instead. Not sure if it's finished as it kinda goes into a messy rant. Oh well, I'll let it go as is for now... http://www.patrickdurham.net/themightypen/index.php?act=...st=0#entry93842 Grasp Grasp. Hold tight With force, and with might This night- They will fight- For your spite and your right~ To destroy, and kill All those you find shrill Despite your insight You incite as you blight While you can - runaway From things they will say. When the threats are within You just laugh and you grin… As we die, yes WE DIE! Still you laugh, as we cry: What kind of man- Will sever one hand- To straggle one for another For profit and plunder! Mistrust: understand! Nothing perfect in plans Nears truth as in man For reason explains but deaf ears will not save As they waste those our brave Inshrined virtue enslaved Those who wonder depraved Grasping tight all you save... rev...

...well to nutshell my feelings... it really all comes down to hyprocracy... I think the world tends not to like us because of this...and the current direction of things doesn't seem to say any of it will change... Am not blaming all this on the sitting prez (it's been scores in the making...) but I don't think he can fix it; either the perception of it or the reality of it... and if anything i fear it will only get worse... If by nothing else then by refusing to talk about it as a legitimate reason for some of the ill feelings toward us. Katz not sure where you got the vet thing? hmm, I actually heard the recording kerry gave to congress about vietnam... it was good speech for someone so young. he took the experiences of other vets who had testified in another forum and presented them concisely. Taking issue with the leadership not the soldiers... well that's how I interpreted it. To boars: Why can't you have it both ways? I agrees it may seem silly, but why can't she choose. People are funny about what they care about. Also: a lot of liberal and moderates feel the same way about supporting kerry in the open... I've been called worthless, a whimp, trader, all of sorts of gay conatations(am straight,) have also seen kerry supporter be told to jump off the bridge they were standing on. And believe me, the 'evil' word gets thrown around a lot towards liberal beliefs... So it cut both ways... just depends on which moral majority you happen to be swimming in if you happen to be the minority... rev...

hmm, acutally, as always I was drawing from my own experience. In the past I always decribe my faith as "blind faith." I would wear it like armor to fight atheist, secular hedonist types, and other religious faithful... I would not let any other view point encroach apon my own. My religion was superior to all others...and if you didn't agree with me, I would destroy you. I would try to listen calmly, but really I was just listening for ammo to file away in an your agrument as I readied my own. I would attempt to upend you arguments by attacking your foundations because if another person viewpoint could make me question my faith, then my foundation would start to crumble. The world would then not be such a simple place... Again: I grew up. I did question my faith. Reading help. Epecially tolstoy and hemmingway for some reason... When before the war started: I hear supporters for the WAR refusing to hear reasons ANY REASONS against going to WAR. Where they utter: "I don't care what you say, I am just here to support the Troops." I consider that blind faith. When during the war: I hear people explain away the lies about WMD's, "Well that what presidents are supposed to do. Lie, Clinton did it." I consider that blind faith. When almost half of America determines this election focus should be about a Referendum on Morality, instead of a Referendum of Preemptive War. Something Amercan has never done before. I consider that blind faith. And yes America needs to learn to be less Selfish and Grow Up. I am a Patriot. I love my country. And it kills me to see the direction it is going... Nationalism leads to persecution. Patriot: I believe in my country and will defend it. Nationalist: We are greatest in the world; We are right; Our view is superior to all others; We are willing to go to war to prove it; and nothing you can say will change our minds. Yes, I am biased. Why? Because I consider myself reformed. If you do not challenge that which is around you... you will never grow. You do not have to rebel. But you should try to change. Change for the better... rev...

Just 'cause they melt for you poems doesn't me they will neccessary melt for you. It may go to their head and sure they'll be flattered... but hey you never know if you don't try... Hell, I wrote a lot poems for a lesbian, I fell for once... she loved the poems and attention... but that's about as far as it could go... ya know... rev...

'...alas babylon' America: Blind Faith vs Reasoned Conviction Faith won... We lose... A divided America Scares me. I used to be a conservative~and Southern Baptist to boot. The me of 10 years ago could have easily fit in with the Neo-Cons of today... Luckily, something amazing happened. I grew up. I learned that other peoples views and outlooks matter. What I believe is right, may not be right for others. And though, I did and still do believe that overall America is the best current social model out there; I learned that it is possible for me to be wrong. I just wish the rest of the country would learn that. There's a fine, fine line between Patriotism and Nationalism... And I fear we have crossed it. 'lo all, found this link while researching the militaries linguist programs... Seems to be a online network that program where people can watch educational programs in many other languages... Mission Statement: SCOLA's mission is to help the people of the world learn about one another; their cultures, their languages and their ideologies. SCOLA emphasizes the importance and effectiveness of modern information technology as a tool in overcoming barriers to global understanding and will remain at the forefront of its application. ~I don't know, looked cool to me... http://www.scola.org/eoneCommerce/Portal?&R=7285 rev...

have already voted via absentee ballot... I made up my mind who I was not voting for the day troops started training to go to Iraq...(helps to know people in a few key places) And it was well, well, well before any talks even got off the ground... 7 years of military experience say vote for reality. Learn from the lessons of Rome. I diagree with my brother who said, "the republic died on 911..." It only dies if we let. ...on a side note a liberatarian friend of mine once had me take a politics quiz... (i'm a registered independant.) I came up a split between the Authoritative/Liberal mindset... Well, it took a moment to take that in... but after a few seconds I concluded my philophy must be this then: "You can do what ever you want, but you WILL DO IT! have fun, rev...

i like it... Don't think I would have ever thought to use colors to seperate the voices... very orginal... I like itallics myself... though rhyming "shown" in line one with "tone" in 3... seems forced... for I feel no natural pause between line 3 and 4... where "tone" in line 3 begins the sentence "[tone]your rubbish down." Something similar occurs in Line six with "your flaws" Yet this time it works because a natural pause occurs between the subject and verb... I wouldn't change anything though, because thats the only thing funny that stuck out to me...and I am not taking the full structure of the poem into consideration... Also, I think the repitition works well enough... adds a dramatic effect, i think... cool. rev...

hmm, let's see if I can clean it up a little now that the clock is off What story can i tell -in so short a time when words written truley are rarely so often blind to the images we lie too - where the wicked lay within- -that tells us all we have to is turn submission into a sin? Forsaking our dear breathen to right within ourselves the masquerad of virture left all knowing save but self... *hmm, a little better... revery the dreamlost "..." the dream continues...
