    Wind Riders

sorry been busy... plus it's a lot to take in... I'll have a gander at it over the week end. though, I warn you, I tend to sux prose, well except when I try to write it in my poetry and then I just confuse people...
  2. claps for our lady of perspectives... You've a fierceness about your writing. I wonder where it will take you in say 10 or so years... time will tell. rev...
  3. Oh sorry about cursing back there... http://www.themightypen.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif By gone, it's working already... heh, seriously though, when I read the title of this post, i thought our camel friend was refering to "who" was running the pen. (or is that to "whom?") Anyway, I pictured him/her/it opening up their firefox brower early one morning, having it fail, then switching to explorer, and having it also fail then take down their laptop, and then shem/it finally saying the heck with it all and loading up mozilla... (oh wait that was me.) Anyway, sometime during the "controlled meltdown", I mean "upgrade" this past weekend, he/she/it exhausted from their laptop woes, finally arrived at the youth-hostal that is our hallowed pen (no spite here, I just like the sound of it...) [NOTE: Masculine pronouns will be used hinceforth for convenience.] ...and he get's nothing, nada, zip. Leaving our water efficent one to exclaim: "hmm, now i really wonder, who's in charge." You can imagine, my let down when it turned out ONLY to be about gas prices and such... I was expecting another tirad sung to the tune of "WHAT'S GOING ON" as portrayed in the minstral hall of old. luckily for me, I'm in a position where I only drive like once or twice or week, so the gas price thing is a non-issue for me... well in the short run at least. The long run, jeeze, I don't even want to think about that. Think the only thing that uses oil is cars? Well, consider for a moment where PLASTIC comes from? Then all the businesses that use plastic. Then combine that with all the businesses that use plains, trains, and automobiles for transportation. Oh and don't forget fertilizers? Yep, yep petrochemicals fertilizers and other associated feedstocks helped build our industrialized utopia... If you would like to learn more about petrochemicals, check with your local library, or google it, everyone else is, so why not you. http://www.eia.doe.gov/glossary/glossary_p.htm So in summary, i love my hybrid a.k.a "the mighty lawn dart" LOVE YOU!!! Fear the mighty lawn dart, rev... [EDIT: You wouldn't believe the sheer amount of typo's I catch when I edit these things, let alone one's I don't]
  4. this may be pretty obvious to some, but i'll go ahead and say it. The very fact that we're having this conversation, is what distingishes the pen from other more uh...less-polite communities. We actually give a damn enough to take care. Even if it's only in hindsight. heh. rev... [EDIT: it's what I do...]

    Board Update

The is board is berry blue and bright. Oh how my eyes do water at the sight. Aiiee, Aiiee, Aiiee, Aiiee, Aiiee, Aiiee, Aiieya j/k lovely board, I'll get used to it. rev...
  6. no problem... Glad to you like it so far. Hmm, yeah, the whole grave diggers thing: Well the spade didn't actually cut open the coffin... They just exposed some of the outer metal shell that was used to encase the coffin. It's like a extra protection from decay thing. The whole "seeing her" was meant to be taken in the metaphorical sence or just that seeing the where the body phsically was resting kind of freaked him out. I added that section, to show the distinction between how the brothers reactions differed. The younger just kind of brushed it off, while it affected the Elder so much, that he resolved never to be buried. Now bare in mind this really happened. The elder brother took that event and carried it with him for the better part of 17 years. While the younger struggles to recall it. I'm using this event, well actually the whole Cementary scene to highlight those emotional differences. The "tears" thing in the middle of the poem, was used for similar effect. But as you can see, I haven't quite pulled it off yet. It's a work in progress. I'm still not comfortable writing in this style either. To me it seems a more straight forward appoarch, though it does give me more freedom. Still it's weird not being able to hide behind my structure or my half-baked metaphores... So, what's really getting me, is trying to make it sound right. Which is usually an easy thing for me... Alas, this time, I've no set meter or rhyme skeme to guide me. So, I'm kind of making it up as I go along. ** Not sure about the "however" either** I'm have issues with both brothers descriptions, but I think I'll hold off on dealing with them, until, I get the comments back from my fellow classmates. Maybe, they can add to what you've already got me mulling over. Plus, I've now another 17 poems to critique, and everyone of them is dealing with "death." So, I doubt I'll have to energy to finish this anytime soon. On, the other hand, all those dreary poems, may just put me in the right mood for finishing it. Thanks Gwai, rev...
  7. hmm. I suggest changing your life. I did and I'm feel so much better. Though it took the death of my brother to give me the courage to do it. Funny how life can work out like that huh? More practically, Forget girls. No seriously. Really forget about them. Focus on building your own self worth. If friendships all you can get, then make sure it's a mutually benificially friendship. To have friends, be a friend. That said, if you not being treated or supported like a friend, then drop them. You don't need to waste your energy on a black hole. I'm talking about girls here, 'cause friendships with guys is somewhat different. We usually don't think about that whole reciprocal thing. But girls obsess over it, so if you going to be friends with girls, you should be more than just a soundboard for their concerns. Otherwise, you just being used. Job wise, if you're really that much of an asset, start making a demand or two. You'll really find out how much they "need" you then. Of course, they may just end up firing you. But at least then, your free to explore other options. Or you could just say the Hell with it all, and move to...oh I don't know, california, europe, thailand... Save up for a ticket to someplace, and just go. If you survive the first year, you're good. If you're not up to that, then find a place where you at least know a few people, so you have a place to crash for a few days once your money runs out. good luck, rev...
  8. turn into the GREAT PUMKIN! Curiously the Moleppl starting acting conspicuously like big woobly headed children strewn around a baseball diamond. "oh the Great one has returned," the Lucy Moleppls cried. "Charlee! Linus! ...Light the torches...Franklin, Shroader bring forth offerings of Candy Corn, Pixie Sticks, and Licorish to the most high sacred e-goardenated one...and be quick about it." The others went about their tasks as Snoopy donned his...

  10. neat enough, slightly politized, but what isn't now-a-days... Hmm, how 'bout an expose' on the non-conical works... ya know the books where we get a lot of our angel and demon lore from... btw, pick up a good concordance... If i'm not mistaken it's really more like, thou shalt not commit murder, heh, they to had keep a loop hole for the armies god ya know... plus the whole eye for an eye thing... rev...
  11. White stripes = alternative? I wouldn't classify them as alternative either, but i'm prolly biased, since my glory days were during Alternative-ROCKS peak, which ironically was propelled into the mainstream. So if something is mainstream, can you really consider it an alternative??? Heh, but that debates pretty well worn out, so there's no need to explore it. Hmm, as i remember it the chronology went something like this: Summary of the 80's: (The Me Generation a.k.a Video Killed the Radio Star) * Motown Era and Classic Diva's Fade * Folk rock lingers despite being driven underground in the early 70's * Southern Rock persists amonst the baby-boomers spawning "Classic Rock" * Punk fading, but still going strong * Disco finally dies * Emergence of Light Rock...and Light Rock Diva's * New Wave begins and mutates into things whose names i can't even begin to recall... * Late Era Beaties and respective Rolling Stones Inspired Artists Thrive in the back ground * MTV creates another British/Europe Invasion, since, Europe was the only one really making videos at the time. * Punk driven Underground * Club Kid phenomenom... * Jacksons elevate Pop. * Boy bands reinvented... * Rise of and Fall of Heavy/Hair Metal * Rap gains wide acceptance, then picks up momentum Early 90's: (New World Order a.k.a The Generation X Revolution) * New Wave artists attempt various comebacks... * Hip Hop and Adult Comtempary Diva's Emerge * Country turns into Southern Rock with an accent (which is interesting because Southern Rock was Blues and Folk Rock tempered with Country Music in the early 70's) * Heavy metal goes underground * POP: first white boy band appears * Pop Rap has it hay day via the Fresh Prince and M.C. Hammer etc. * Hair Metal goes underground * Gangster Rap emerges from underground * Alternative Emerges from underground with Folk and Geek Rock riding it's coat tails... * Techo emerges from underground Rave culture * Hip Hop and Alternative Music Go head to head vying for dominance. * Rock/Rap bands pioneered ---Music charts divided up into various genres---after Sir Mix Alot's "Baby got Back" constant air play annoys uptight corporate DJ's. * Alternative Ska Bands get their 15 minutes... * Lylith Era Chick Rock gains a foot hold. mid 90's (Ticket Master Era or The Great Cell phone and Internet Explosion) * Folk Rock driven underground * Tribal culture emerges: tatoo's and percings as far as the eye can see... * Rave culture goes mainstream: Club Kids emulated by the masses * Lylith fades * Hip Hop and Rock in General still going at it... * Alternative and Metal merge with Rap creating the volatile Rock/Rap Crossover. * Mainstream Alternative mainstains a presence but no longer dominate * Pop Country sweeps the Nation... Late 90's (Wag the Dog or The Napster Revolution) * Everything seems to have a Dance Remix track... * Rave Culture still going strong * Rock/Rap crossover bands dominate the Rock charts.. * EMO spawned from agnst left over from the early alternative era and an alliance with Geek Rock. * Hip Hop Reigns supreme "Eastcoast versus Westcoast Era" * US. embraces Canadian Country * Teeny-boper and Boy bands take over * Adulth Contemperary, Hip Hop and Teeny-boper Diva's start to notice one another and form alliances/wage vicious Soap Opera-esk Holy Wars... * Latin Invasion of Pop ignites then flickers out... * Second wave of Chick Rock helps slow and eventually kill the Boy Bands Early 2000's: ( The New New World Order or Generation Y discovers the World) * Rave culture persists * Hip Hop Reigns Supreme "Bling Bling Era" * Teeny-bopers persist though weakened * 2nd Generation Pop Alternative/Punk bands emerge heavily influenced by extreme sport enthusiast * Chick Rock wanes * EMO Festers * Retro Rock comes into fashion paying homage the 70's Mid 2000's to present: (Red/Blue Era or A New kind of Holy War) * Hip Hop keeps going and going... * Older Era Metal and Alternative Bands reinvent themselves respectively * Country turns into 80's Suburban light rock with an accent * Retro Rock comes into fashion paying homage to the 80's * 2nd Gen Teeny bopers emerge, while old guard fades... * IPOD's go mainstream * and so forth... ....well that's how I remember it... Anyway back to the White Stripes: If I had to label them, I throw them together with the Retro-70's rock wave that briefly washed over the pop landscape a few years ago. I.E (The Hives, The Stroke, Jet) Taking liberally from bands like the Rolling Stones and Led Zeplin... So I say that the "Stripes" were influnenced by Alternative, just like most the other radio kids that matured in the 90s, but they're not Alternative Rock, as I remember it... Yep, I think Retro fits better... As for the early 90s I have lot's of fond memories from that period... Though one terrible consquence that coincided with Alternatives' rise, was that the Music Industry figured out JUST how much more money they could make, if they started buying up more radio stations; thus accelating the homogeninization of much of the unique local scenes around the county. Turning them into the bland corporate Pop addicted landscape that exists today... Of course, you can't lay all the blame on the music. Popular musics has been on this road on long time... And the Policy changes in the FCC's Telecommincation Act of 1996 cemented the trend by allowing the cullings to occur in the Radio world. (roughly one company could own 8 stations in a given area, with a mandotory review or regulations every 2 years or something like that, which is why Clear Channel emerged) Still, my knowledge does not run very deep on this subject, so I do wonder what other factors brought about the change. Hmm, thankfully though public out cry last year thwarted the FCC's future loosing of the station ownership regulations. Hey, what do you know- Democracy still works...well provided you pay attention... hmm,

  15. "no child left behind" is part of the Education policy of the Bush adminstration in the U.S. It's sets lot's of times tables for funding and what not... I.E. if your students fall below a certain level, then you have like 2 or 3 years to show improvement or they take away your federal funding... I believe they have all kinds of classifications for schools, like a trouble school is a "Title One" school or something like that. I'll ask mom, since she works in one... Hmm, but I wonder, what will become of a school after it's lost it's funding... Do they lose their accrediation too, and have to close up shop? Or does the State take on the remainder of the burden...via increased propriety taxes... Or do all the special programs get cut... Ya know, i have friend from Washington state, and they had a rather cool funding policy for special programs... It's something like, half the funding and profits that would normally go into the traditional sport programs like football, basketball etc, have to be distributed among the various fine arts and club organizations too. Makes for a more creative and balance atmosphere... but i'm rambling... Well, it's worth investigating... *puts on his researcher's cap* regards, rev...
  16. Saw Garden State the other day... Then saw it again the day after... and now am half watching it now, as I type this. This Jersey Tale stars Zack Braff (Andrew Largeman) of the popular American Television Show "Scrubs" Zach also directed and wrote this tale, which is sort of a laid-back mixed bag of part voyage of self-discovery, part love story, and part redemption/reconcillition quest. The highlight of the movie is any scene with Natalie Portman (Sam) and Zach Braff together.. Which is like 75 percent of the film, and the soundtrack is pretty good as well... Reminds me of a Laid back and toned-tone version of a Kevin Smith film, but with a Wes Anderson's sense for using music to support moods and themes... Plus the dialogue is smart, funny, and introspective... Best line of the film: "I'm your new friend Sam..." check it out, rev...
